It's normal to have religions - and religious denominations and innovations - that are unique to your own land. It's entirely normal that there would be an "American Christianity."
That said, I don't know how to explain some of this shit. There's no excuse for some of the creepier stuff.
The Puritanical fear of art and good aesthetic still has not entirely died out. You'd think the Puritans would all be dead by now but here you can still see their influence. Christianity has a great history of art and religious art, so I wonder where this could've come from:

I like to hear sound theological reasoning and you can find that in America though you have to wade a bit. I just dislike that the 'internet catholic' attacks protestantism with such a shallow argument that it leaves me to wonder if he is actually catholic at all. But I agree in a sense European proddys are not so commercialized as some US churches are.
