Hey mu are records players worth it? I've heard that they have the best sound quality and that sweet album art is a nice bonous, but I already have a little collection of cd's going.

I have that turntable, it's a good turntable for the price and has good output quality and plays great through a good set of speakers. If you're looking for a started turntable that isn't a shite sounding $€£100 value one, go for this one.

Also, records are much nicer than CDs, the album art is the way it's supposed to be viewed and gatefold vinyls normally come with bonus art inside and sometimes even a poster or a little extra

Don't get this turntable please. Also, your point about records having the best sound quality would only be true with the highest of quality gear.

Not OP but i like the vinyl culture, i'd love the collect my favorite albums in vinyl and have the artwork and the lyrics with it. Also i'm an autistic nigger who like to collect shit.
What turntable do you recommend? i would love to hear experience from people with vinyls

This turntable is fine for starting out, don't listen to this user.

The turntable OP posted in the sticky is a good starting turntable, avoid the $/£100 ones you can get from Wal Mart/HMV, they're quality and sound are terrible. As for the records themselves, the artwork looks amazing and it just feels like the proper format to own it (as well as gatefold records and bonus stuff you get with vinyl)

Op here I'm going to my local record store soon to check out some cd's and I'll talk with the guys there about turntables, my main gripe is I feel ill freak out and I'll feel as if I need to rebuy my albums on vinyl instead of cd.

Can second this, great starter turntable, perfect for a beginner.

Why can't you have both?
Thanks, i'm actually not from america so i'll have to buy it online.
>As for the records themselves, the artwork looks amazing and it just feels like the proper format to own it
I get you, my friends owns a lot of vynils and is just a pleasure to look at the artwork and lyrics, not to mention the music itself.

Das blini for an entry level turntable.

Audio-Memeica makes good shit.

Crosley is not blini though and will destroy your records. Don't buy into the meme.

I feel its something to do with discography, for example I have Ok Computer and Kid A on cd, and if I got more radiohead albums on vinyl it would seem wrong.

>I've heard that they have the best sound quality
No. They are a less accurate reproduction than CDs or high quality digital files. Some really old albums that were originally only mastered to vinyl are still best on vinyl, as newer masters tend to suck, however, vinyl is objectively lower quality than good digital formats. Lower dynamic range as well. It's kinda like tube amps. Some people enjoy the imperfections and distortion from vinyl, but it isn't "better".

Now that you have the impression that I hate everything vinyl...

>sweet album art is a nice bonous
Absolutely. And the physical aspect of cuing records is great. That's what I've always liked about them, and why I have a turntable and records. It is more fun than digital by 100X. More involving.

Crosley are shit and need to be avoided, I agree, however it seems like you're buying into a meme as well.

This, Crosley is a fucking meme brand for posers who want the cheapest record player to play all their shitty "indie" artists to look sophisticated to all their friends.

>Have friend who decides to get into recods after seeing my player
>buys a Crosley without asking me, don't have the heart to tell him it's shit.
>Thing constantly skips and scratches a few of his records.
>Retard accidentally closes the lid on one of his vinyls and breaks it.

Spend the little extra money and buy an Audio Technica, don't fall for the Crosley trap.

If you look con Craigslist you can get a better vintage record player for less than the LP60 turntable.

This turntable will kick the shit out of the Lp120 for less than the price of an LP60. You just need a receiver with a phono preamp. I was where you were, OP. But don't worry; you do need to know a lot about gear, but once you are somewhat familiar with it you'll be enjoying collecting records and admiring record sleeves.

Is that the LP60 or 120? Don't get the 60.

I have a record player, a moderately sized collection of records and I can tell you honestly, do not get a record player.

It's nice for about a month as you revel in the novelty, then it starts to wear off and you go back to listening to music on your phone, ipod, or cds because it's a trillion times more convenient. Record players were phased out for a reason, and I know that reason now.

They're expensive as fuck too. A nice one with good speakers is easily over 200 dollars, which when you're a broke college kid like myself, it's a waste. Not to mention the records which are like 20 dollars a piece or more. It drains your money so quickly for no reason.

There is no 'vinyl culture.' That's a retarded thing to say. The nation of Palestine has a culture. Retard hipsters who think they're cool for 'spinning vinyl' don't have a culture. They have a retarded need to feel like they understand art on a different level. I know it because I was one.

Honestly, do not buy a record player. They're nowhere near worth it. Having blown up album covers is cool, but you could just get posters for that. In the meantime, stick to whatever you listen to music on now. The sound quality isn't even better.

>record player
Stopped reading right there. Real vinyl connoisseurs use turn tables with good setups.

Real vinyl coniiseeooooooors are cock gobbling faggots.

It's not the record player's fault that you're a poser.

Record players are completely worth it if you are willing to commit the time/money into records. It's all about if you care about that physical copy. I personally collect records and I find it very enjoyable.

I totally second this post. Can't beat that awesome artwork my friend. It's a good part of the reason i love records.

I've been looking into buying a whole setup. Could someone link me to some kind of guide on what I should buy?

The turntable tab of these images is a good starting-point.

Only get a record player if you have a LOT of expendable income burning a hole in your pocket. Otherwise I'd use the $ to upgrade speakers, headphones, amps, etc.

How much are you looking to spend? Looking to go vintage or new?

New

You can't go wrong with this. I have had the mmf-5 for 10+ years and it still runs perfectly.

I started with a new Onkyo stereo reciever but now I've moved to vintage(ish) Adcom gear. Have about $2k in my system.

What all do you have for $2000?

Record players are just memes

That being said, the best part about record players is thumbing through crates and picking up cool looking things and coming across a jewel every now and then. If you live in a college town or near a place that sells vinyls, would rec getting a cheap one.

My turntable has improved my life, it's about analogue rediscovery

>They're great for listening parties but at the same time I'm usually too normy Sup Forums
>Excellent for passing time
>Vastly improves music library 10x
>Maintaining a collection is alpha af
>Valuable asset for sampling music
>Music archival and preservation is very important
>For $2.50 today I got all this:
Carol King - Tapestry
ON-J - Physical
Roberta Flack - First Take
Erasure - The Innocents (tape)
Prince - Purple Rain (tape)
Air Supply - Lost in Love (tape)
Alana Davis - 32 Flavors (tape, single)

I have a LP60, and here's what I have to say, the sound quality is..okay. It is certainty not great, but it could be better. The biggest problem I have with it is that it LOVES to skip. My favorite fucking song on Entroducing..... skips FIVE fucking times. I played it on my friends better setup, and it does not skip at all. It's just the LP60. And honestly, the skipping is reason enough not to get it. I can't wait to get a better setup so I can listen to my shit without the annoying fuckin skipping.

I put this together over quite a few years, but currently:

Music Hall mmf-5 turntable ($550)
Dual 1019 Turntable (free, was my Dads)
Adcom GTP-600 preamp ($185 eBay)
Adcom GFA-545ii amp ($265 eBay)
Audiosource EQ-100 ($120)
NAD-PP2 phono preamp ($125)
Athena AS-F2 tower speakers ($600)
Infinity BU-2 powered sub ($25 goodwill)
Harmon/kardon fl-8300 cd changer ($150 many years ago)

You could sold your CDs and start a new vinyl collection, but do that when you're more into it.
