btw, Amsterdam is full of trams because our first metro line was a complete disaster, destroying large parts of the historical jewish neighborhoods in the city centre. Second metro line (suburban, above ground) was built as a "light rail" because of that. The "Noord-Zuid" metro line through the city centre has been in construction for the last 20 years or something, grossly over budget and a lot of deadlines, but at least it's not destroying any unesco world heritage.
