Where did it all go wrong for the braves?
the dan thuggla and blowjob upton contracts basically forced the braves to rebuild they just decided to start it a year or two earlier while they had good assets to trade.
Were the uggla and Upton deals seen as obvious bad deals at the time or did it just end up being bad luck?
The uggla deal was seen as the braves giving him an extra year that he probably wouldn't be any good in but the first 4 years of production would be worth it so people were generally ok with it. It's just unfortunate that he completely crapped out a year or two earlier than anticipated. The upton was more split because there were some red flags. You could see him either being a very good player or a meh one that wouldn't be worth the contract. No one saw it turning into the ridiculous shitshow it did though.
