American nationality

Yanks, do you consider yourself to be American first and foremost, or would you identify with your state, like say Robert E Lee did, or are both as important as eachother?

I consider regional and state identity to be the most important.

This, although I live in the most relevant area of the country, so people know what I'm talking about.

National identity is all that matters. States are pretty much just bureaucratic administrative subdivisions. Only people from really poor, shitty areas care about their state, because they have nothing else to be proud of.

Before the election it was American, but now it's Californian first

This

I might be proud of my state if it were more famous. No famous girl goes "Oooooh you're from Illinois? That's so exotic and sexy" like they do with Texas.

For me Viriginia, Kentucky, and Texas are the coolest ones. You should just lie.

none of your damn business.

California is objectecly the best state in the union. North Dakota is a close second.

I've lived all over the midwest and have family on both coasts. That's the beauty of such a large and free country - we get just get up and move any time we feel like it. Sometimes quite often.

I'm American.

You could say that about nations too.
Only poor people care about countries or culture. The rich are only interested in preserving their moolah.

California is shite.

And also because your home got seized by the bankers who got a bailout from the Congress

Such is life in freedomland

10/10 post hahahaa LOL

>Kentucky

What exactly do you find cool about this state?

American first and foremost. Everything else is secondary to be honest. If you are an American and you are a citizen then I'd fight to protect you. Having been in the military you learn that racial, social and economic differences before don't mean jack shit when you're busting your ass and working to a common goal.

Point in case I worked with a guy whose dad was a KKK grand dragon and another guy who was a Gangstas disciple out of Chicago. After our first deployment everyone else got along. You learn real quick everyone is in it together and that when people get over those things they think divides them that we're a great country and unified. Too bad it seems to take something dangerous to drive people to get past shitty extremist rhetoric.

This from Colgate max whiteness and Aquafresh the country.

Chicken.

That's where all the Scots moved to. They are muh kinsmen.

Colgate doesn't even understand that I'm 7 payments away from having the mortgage paid off. Seriously.

Haha! Joke's on you, Yurpoor.

I consider myself to be an American first and foremost. Because of the people running my state it's hard to feel a close connection to it.

Pic related

Yes. I have french, Brit, German and finno-swed heritage so I'm pretty much stuck with American.

come home yellow man

Depends who asks.

Gibs passport pls

I am a red-blooded American. If states have more power than the federal government, what's the point of being a country? Just make the states their own countries.

I do enjoy state vs. state and regional banter though

I found exactly the opposite during my time in the service

American first and foremost. Way back when, when the individual states were a lot more independent, people identified primarily with their state because back then, like before the Civil War, a lot of them almost were sovereign countries. But the Civil War and the following Reconstruction Era brought unification and by 1880 basically everyone identified themselves as American above any state identity.

So the good guys really did lose in the civil war?

Childhood is calling yourself an American. Adulthood is realizing State Identity makes more sense.

Only if you live in a state worth identifying with.

If you are from west of the Mississippi you probably identify as American first. East of the Mississippi you probably identify as your state or region first.

This is often the same in Canada where the line is the Québec/Ontario border instead of the Mississippi River.

I'm a proud Marylander

Fuck the USA

A bunch of germans speaking english and worshipping jewish god. Nothing special, just americans.

My state exactly

>A bunch of Germans

Irish and British are the predominant ancestry of white Americans.

No, it isn't. Anglo is the largest single ancestry in every U.S. state, not German.

I'm just happy I'm not from California

Not true. The plurality of whites in my state are German

See

No, they aren't

...

Nobody save for maybe some edgy Texans think of they're belonging to their state versus the country. The end of the civil war marked the renewed sense of unity as a nation we've since enjoyed.

You know fuck all about American demographics.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas#Demographics
Germans are over 33℅ while Scots and English are not even 20℅.
A more extreme example is Minnesota where 70℅ of whites are German and scandi and not even 10℅ Anglo.

...

in a lot of ways I want to claim my state because it feels too progressive to fit in with the rest of the country, but then sometimes I feel more american than the conservative parts because some "american values" are practiced more here than there.

That doesn't really prove him wrong.

No it's German

In country I identify by state. Overseas I say Im from the United States

Hurr durr I'm a Hoosier
Hurr durr now I'm a Buckeye
Durr

Seriously, only people from meme states who never relocate do this. Most Americans move at some point in their life, often hundreds or thousands of miles.

I feel mid-Atlantic first. Everyone outside the tristate region are weirdos.

American first and foremost, as with the vast majority of Americans. If it weren't like that we'd probably have another Civil War tbqhwy

Chicago's a pretty good city, but Illinois as a state is the most average out of all of them.

No you're retarded. The only people who do this (within the US) are politically disenfranchised socialists or rednecks who like their extremist state's politics more than the nation's.

This is just as retarded as people who live and die by the nearest state universities football program, despite having never gone near the school.

National identity comes first. Anyone who says otherwise is a traitor.

You live in ONE country.

not so fast snake

Yeah, that's when you allow self-reporting, when you rely on genetics instead of "we wuz" you find the Anglos are the most common in every U.S. state.

According to one of the largest ever U.S. genetics studies, published January of 2015 in the American Journal of Human Genetics:
>"British/Irish ancestry is found in European Americans from all states at mean proportions of more than 20 percent, and represents a MAJORITY of ancestry in each state."

Of the 49 million Americans that claim German ancestry only about 16 million are of mostly Germanic background.

maps like this one, even when accurate are very misleading considering the amount of moving many american do over time. oftentimes shows only how things were once.

It think it depends on the state, I think southerners have much more regional identity. Things have become so globalized so regional identity is dying here

At this point everyone is so divided I'd say race and political affilation are more important.
I live in Texas, but I have much more in common with a white conservative from Wisconsin than I do some nigger democrat in the Houston inner city.
The "American" identity has essentially been destroyed by the msm and the left.
About half the people in this country i wouldn't mind sending to forced labor camps.

Every time I see a wildfire or earthquake engulfing your cesspool of a state i busy a fat nut

Completley full of shit.
I can't think if ONE person who joined the military and didn't leave more racist than when they joined. Especially if you got deployed to the middle east.

>identifying with a nationality
>identifying with a state

desu the only polity worth identifying with is a city, that only makes practical and logistic sense. every city is different, it's retarded to base one's identity off of artificial borders and group yourself with people who share different physical and cultural spaces

while within states and nations there can be vastly different physical spaces and modes of navigating those spaces, the inhabitants of a city share common experiences, cultural spaces (concert halls, plazas, restaurants, bars, etc.), and these concrete experiences bind people together more than arbitrarily drawn borders ever could hope to do

fuck nationalism

Aw thanks, I'm from ky. I only play that shit up on the west coast for college girls and cops everywhere. Works equally well on both.

>fuck nationalism
Yeah you're just afraid 1st world countries will start closing their borders before you're lazy spic ass can make it across

I've lived and worked on 3 continents.
Just about everyone I've spoken with at any length self-identified by their professional and marital / parental status, regardless of country.
Leads me to believe that where they live is not as important as what they do.

Sorry; not to dodge your question, but I just don't see the point.

I can think of several and I was even stationed at Bragg. Ethnic polarization isn't a thing in the 82nd, not so far as any of the infantry battalions are concerned and certainly not by my experience. Maybe you two just got hosed and that sucks.

>you're
>american education

there has never been a meme this close to reality

as a new yorker I must make myself known in every state, country and planet
I'll stomp my timbs on mars even

If I am in another country than It's my nationality as an American, but if i am in the US than it is my state.

American first, regional identity second

I am African American yes

I think people really don't differ that much from state to state here. People really take state identity way too seriously.

There's some good local chicken, but I'd be wary of KFC. You should look up how they make their chicken.

That's fair. A lot of Scots settled in Appalachia.

Kentucky also has a LONDON.

>Kentucky also has a LONDON.
Dropped

If you grew up in the heartland, you will always associate yourself with your region more.

State identity is only important when Americans ask each what state they're from.

I agree with you desu but he actually didn't use that wrong

American first, but if the federal government broke apart I wouldn't feel bad about looking to my state.
Don't you have a local business to loot in the name of peace and love?
Seriously though, if you can't admit that liberalism has a big problem with hugboxing, and dismissing of others then you're part of the problem with why Trump won.

I'm not a yank.

>West Virginia
>Normal people

I identify with my country first.

My area is nice, but I've lived in other parts of the country.

then hes not talking to you pedro

This is true though.

They don't care if you're a northerner or southerner. They just call all Americans yanks.

I'm from Virginia, same as Robert E Lee, and feel the same way he did. I honestly don't actually care very much about the rest of the US or even like most other regions or states or peoples. I just like the constitution and the US style of government so that's why I like being a part of it.

How do you feel about the part that Virginia is a shell of its former self? The Virginia before the split was a really respectable state, but without the west you've deteriorated over time.

Why was Virginia split? Was it devious democrat tricks?

I doubt we would be that relevant even with them. Only reason anybody talks about us on a national level anymore is because we got YANKEE'd so badly that we're a swing state now.

Also every time I've interacted with one of them on here they were really butthurt at us for some reason. Like actual butthurt, not interstate muh college football team is better than yours banter.

Ignore the flag change, I'm on vacation and switched from mobile data to hotel wifi

I hope you get your ass kicked proper you fucking yank cunt

...

Basically, we seceded, and they seceded from us because they wanted to stay with the union. It was all based on a bogus referendum pushed by Lincoln that tons of union soldiers from out of state stationed there were ordered to vote in by their officers.

the civil war

West Virginia stayed with the union

the people running your state literally brought it back from the dead you dumb fuck. Made it one of the strongest economies in America.

Maybe you should move your dumb and broke ass to texas where the rest of california rejects seem to be able to make a living.

I'm going to false flag a bad British post in another thread just because of you, buddy

Basically Virginia was ruled by a bunch of spoiled filthy rich planters making mad money off of slavery, which devalued the labor of poor white yeomen living in the western part of the state. So they seceded and decided to fight for the Union.

I am a Korean American. I don't really identify myself with Korea, the US, or the states I have been living (CA and FL). I just find wherever gives me best job/business opportunity and go there and live as a law abiding citizen who doesn't leech off of welfare. So far I like living in FL. Might as well move somewhere else for other opportunities.

yep and our economy is the 6th lagest in the world, who are you again?oh that's right, just a fly over.

you're existence is meaningless. please kys

>muh 6th largest economy
India is 7th largest, your point? That California is pretty much India tier?
