This happens sometimes when a nation fails. The map then reflects an empty area where the borders make it look like a country when in fact its just a stateless area between the nations that bordered it.

1st - I am mixed swede/greek so I never really identified this as my country anyway, due to heavy pressure from home saying "we are greeks not swedes". I literally don't care, because these are not my people
2nd - Swedes don't care because most of them have completely abandoned the idea of nations/cultures/peoples. They don't see the issue of swedes becoming a minority because swedes don't really exist, so it's just people that happen to be a bit browner becoming more frequent than peope that happen to be lighter, but it changes absolutely nothing else, because all people are ultimately the same.
And even if the "others" do bring their own cultures here, it does not matter to the swedes, because they don't see themselves as having a sole claim to Sweden. It doesn't make sense to them, because the world belongs to everyone. It is not strange that they think this way, because that is literally what we were fed in school since day one. There was never any talk of nation states or Sweden as a swedish concept, only the world and everyone united. I don't blame them for thinking this way to be honest.
Thankfully, my mother is a conservative and didn't want to hand me over to daycare or anything like that, so my brainwashing started much later. Not that it didn't have any effect, I still remember crying when I was like 12 because the teachers told me and all the other mixed/foreigners we would get deported because the nationalists were about to enter the parliament. Thankfully me and the other identityless kids (we had a gang of a half spaniard, a half chileno, a half bosniak and me lol) saw through their bullshit since we had concepts of national pride/cultural importance from home

Its odd. Many people outside Sweden really appreciated their culture while all the while, it seems its own people did not.
Nowadays, people are sort of singing requiems for France and England too. When referring to either around here, the word "gone" comes up a lot.
No one makes fun of them though. Its spoken of in sad tones, not as insults. People dont laugh about it. Its more like talking about someone who died and its sad. Despite Sup Forums banter, Americans really liked Europeans and regarded them as family. Now it seems they are dying and if they wont save themselves, no one else can.
