Ableism in Sports

>has to do a paper on ableism in sports for sports journalism class
>unconvinced it exists in sports
So, Sup Forums, I ask of you, is ableism actually a thing in sports? If not, how do I get around this in my article, and if so, what are some examples I could look into?

That moment when you realize college is largely a crock of shit

I suggest you leave that class and college

well obviously the answer that writes itself would be to focus on the special olympics, that's basically begging to be the answer to the question. how complicated and/or impressive do you want it to be?

top kek

Can you not negate it? It's a bit of an edgy thing to do but if it is just on "ableism in sports" you can talk about how there is none and there are tons of meme things like the paralympics or the deaf teams and all that shit to be able to do it.

i thought this was a finland atheist offtopic thread when i saw the image

Lel

that much seems too easy to me, but I was planning on mentioning it in my paper. I'm generally a high achiever in my class, but the topic barely interests me so I wasn't going to try too hard on it.
Hey at least I wasn't the poor fucker that got assigned to write about Classism in sports.

whoever wrote that paper has never seen an actual college assignment before

Look up Markus Rehm and Pistorius. For both of them there were questions over whether their prosthetics might give them an advantage over able bodied athletes.

>doing anything other than a STEM degree

you only have yourself to blame

right, shit. this guy had it right, I meant the paralympics not the special olympics.

Well that's a professor that wrote it or at least a teachers aide..

I tried to negotiate it, and the response was generally that I wouldn't be able to get too critical. I go to a fairly liberal university.
I had Pistorius in mind but I hadn't heard of Rehm, ty user.

well if you want to stand out a bit then, you should gather quite a few examples nobody else would cite. like for example that one lady that started running when she was already old and then went on to do like 20 marathons or something.

I wasn't too sure whether that would count as ableism, but I'll look into it

You can be a major edgelord and go the other way

fb.com/englandcricket/videos/10153246812320194/

>England were 14-0 in pursuit of 241 when the match was forfeited due to an India player wearing a hearing aid.

>match forfeited
>hearing aid

>40 upvotes and 10 comments on Reddit assignment due tomorrow
>haven't even started

wat do?

...

well if you can find examples that do fit the requirements to be considered ableism, you're going to want to shoot for heartwarming stories of overcoming it if you want the goodie points from your liberal university's professor. people who ended up not just being able to participate, but actually do really well at whatever it was.

...

I have 3 new memes due next week.

interesting. Are there any other stories like this where this fair representation shit ended up losing a match? i'm feeling more of the edgelord side with this.
on the other, more goody goody side, I tried looking into this earlier today and found that a good majority of athletes with amputated limbs seem to be swimmers. maybe I'll look there?

Best to agree with some radical MRAs. Easy upvote farming

do your paper on Anyone But Liverpool ism

i am confused

>people who ended up not just being able to participate, but actually do really well at whatever it was.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrincha

Garrincha is a great example of that. He not only had a really shit start to life, but a deformed leg too.

>he fell for the STEM meme

Sports are by their very nature ableist as you need to be in peak physical condition to be a world-class athlete. And before you bring up the Special Olympics, name one medalist off the top of your head.

The point is, ableism isn't a thing, you don't need to regard normal body function as a privilege, and your professor probably enjoys watching large black men have sex with his wife.

Gonna need proof these aren't fake.

Sounds like you're pretty familiar with it. Try going back.

kek my professor is a woman
this is generally my perspective on the topic, because athletics are inherently a physical activity and if you're expecting a physical impairment to let you still be an athlete at top level with able-bodied people then you're probably eligible to compete in the special olympics yourself.
thanks for the article swiss user, never heard of this guy before.

Good example of a reddit post, unfortunately there are no upboats on this board.

If you complete this "course" and earn this "degree" then I don't know what to say to you.

Honestly I think you're trolling. But you put forth an impressive effort.

i have NEVER seen a single college assignment that writes the class name without the course number and I have attended 2 colleges (one for undergrad, one now for PhD and I TA)

I've heard that about swimmers as well but I don't remember the reason. like someone said before about track athletes, there are some situations where having prosthetics actually allow you to potentially do BETTER than if you weren't disabled. I don't think that's what your professor would want to hear though, because it's not pitying them enough.

duke made a few of these

not trolling here, I understand why you would think that though.
this is just a course I'm taking on the side, not my major, I'm majoring in technical writing currently.
yeah my professor probably wants to hear the sob stories and the kind of stories they make "inspirational" movies out of, not actual reality.

We're they massive classes?

Some of the 10-25 classroom sizes aren't that autistic

>my gender doesn't limit my athletic abilities

But, it does. All Sup Forums and SJW shit aside, men have evolved to be more athletic than women.

...

>my gender doesn't limit my abilities

but technically it kinda does

I mean it's a dickish thing to use "like a girl" to insult somebody, but there is scientific proof that quote is wrong.

You sir, are reported to the Department of Equality

no, I've been in plenty of tiny classes that always have at least the course number on it

I have a feeling that assignment is from a very non-legit private school or something along those lines

Don't be a retard, you know what she mean

>I mean it's a dickish thing to use "like a girl" to insult somebody
i hashtag twitter ad campaign is working

>filename

So you have a joke major from a joke university. Again I have to stress that if you don't drop out right now you're a fool.

I could legit see it being from an actual public institution. There isn't a guideline on homework handouts. Just one dumbfuck talking about his favorite site

>It's just a phase
Well people wouldn't say that, if there weren't so many college lesbians.

She looks like the Duke girl that was a pornstar and considered herself and getting fucked raw on camera feminist

What retard university did you go to where any assignment doesn't have course identification info on it and assignments have major typos in them

It's fucking fake

That half Asian one?

i don't want to leave college though, I got in on a good scholarship and I kind of enjoy it here. maybe my major is shit, but if it is then I'll just switch to something else, I'm not that deep into it yet.

Minnesota.

I don't think it's fake, nobody would waste time like that. Plenty of handouts don't include the course number stop trying to be a detective

Nahh, this one was a Jewish looking one. Just Google duke pornstar feminist or some shit

>having a fucking sjw for a teacher

So you went to a shit school

And there's plenty of fake shit that gets posted on this website that people then re-post and re-post until they think it's real, people have more time on their hands than you would think, especially things on Sup Forums

Huh, that kind of does look like her.

...

7/8. Had me until the last point.

Surely the more appropriate thing to do for a journalism class is to actually investigate, as a neutral party, whether it actually exists or not and report on the conclusions you make. Your professor sounds like the usual college libcuck that lets his political agenda get in the way of his actual job to educate his students. So unless you really want an A from this class I would just write a super edgy paper with a lot of research and well thought out points that denies ableism in any way exists in sports. Tell him your neutral investigative journalism led you to this result.

>I wouldn't be able to get too critical

I can't imagine what intelligent reason he would even have for caring, other than his own bias, because how critical you are about this literally changes nothing of the core assignment anyway.

>I don't think it's fake, nobody would waste time like that
yet still posting on an image board mongoalian cave scrawlings full neckbeards with nothing better to do just so they can get a slight modicum of attention and feel like a person for once if only for a fleeting second

OP weighing in on the assignment; it's fake, no university (at least not mine) doesn't have the course number and even my prof. spellchecks their assignments. sensible chuckle but fake.

Ablism in sports: if you're more able then you get paid better

OP BTFO

if only that was as easy for some to believe as it should be.

Ableism in sports: being able to move better than others does exist, but it's a desirable thing not a shameful thing

Sports need affirmative action. In basketball, there are far too many large men of color playing. We need to be more inclusive with who is allowed to play and get an opportunity to succeed. Quotas must be established to fight against the ableism in basketball.
