>Sup Forums's favorite new meme: Pretending 3 pointers are not the most exciting part of basketball.
If Sup Forums was around in the early last 90s/early 2000s, you'd be whining about how a focus on homeruns has taken away from "real" baseball.
What's wrong, Sup Forums? Do you miss that days of everyone just looking to pass the ball to some clumsy, 7ft tall oaf who only looked to dunk or shoot a lazy hookshot from 4 feet away from the rim?
nba fans are just cucks that want to see big black men backing eachother down. this shouldn't be a surprise considering they are so passionate about a wwe-tier sport.
Gavin Ortiz
Three pointers used to be exciting because they were RARE. They were more desperate and less likely to go in, so when they did go in it was hype as fuck.
It's like chocolate. Chocolate is good, but when you eat it all the fucking time you just get sick of it. You have to save it as a special treat. That's the three pointer.
Samuel Powell
dude it's not fun to watch or overly skillful. how old are you people honestly?
it's honestly super depressing.
Anyone have the nba ratings going down this season?
Isaac Martinez
>chicks dig the memechuck
Jacob Thompson
What makes the old-school style of two-point basketball special was that it showed off the athleticism of the players with sweet ass dunks. The 3-point era had turned the NBA into a glorified WNBA.
Joseph Roberts
Saying 3-pointers aren't cool is like saying headshots aren't cool in shootan games.
Grayson Baker
If it isn't skillful then why can't any other team do it?
I also like how you ignore Curry when he drives in for the the layup without throwing himself onto the floor.
Stay mad.
Xavier Green
>"memechuck" >Sup Forums so mad that the term apehoop is almost dead here
Colton Powell
I grew up on 80's and 90's basketball and played at a high level as well. If you're looking for something to hate Curry is the last thing you should hate on. He is an exceptional talent and killed in the 4th qtr today. What sucks about the NBA is the lack of super star Centers that control the paint. Look at Adams how he was such a force, he wouldn't even be top 10 Center in the 90's. Guys like, Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, Shaq, Mutumbo, Mourning, Smitts, all were reliable to hold the paint down. Also, superstar players leaving their team to play somewhere else really kills the game for me.
Anthony Watson
baseball absolutely needs homeruns though because the pitching, especially in the bullpen, has got so fucking good that there'd so little scoring without it.
i like the warriors but basketball doesn't really need the 3.
Owen Russell
He's right though people wouldn't stop crying about >MUH PITCHERS DUELS and the ugly era's on every staff so baseball took every measure they could to reduce the amount of scoring and protect >MUH CHILDHOOD HERO RECORDS, a mistake they are just now recovering from imo
John Campbell
The guys you listed were pretty much all there was though.
Hunter Moore
nah i disagree, there are so many pitchers now that have high 90's velocity and the hitting hasn't caught up to it yet.
also the yankees and red sox being mostly irrelevant the last few years hurts baseball as well, even if you hate those teams you can't deny they were what made all the headlines during the 00's.
Henry Adams
Blocks have been and always will be the most exciting part (unless they start fighting like in hockey of course)
Matthew Howard
I've been watching basketball and NBA for almost 40 years and Steph Curry is the best player I ever watched, 2nd place is Milos Teodosic, two magicians.
Nicholas Flores
Old guy or virgin?
Austin Hughes
none of those centers can/could/would stop memechuck tho
when the warriors are in trouble, they just jack up a 3 every single possession, and it either goes in enough for them to come back, or they lose the game. that's what happened in game 6 and i didn't even watch game 7 sinice it was obvious the warriors would win. i hope they keep it up i hope other teams star adopting the strategy and developing their own pure-shooting specialists i hope 3 point shots begin to outnumber 2 point shots on average because then everyone will stop watching and i can just focus in the NFL
Hunter White
I still don't get this. As someone who doesn't watch this sport because it's fucking awful, 3 pointers are the only think that I think are cool. They take a lot of skill to pull off. Dunks are literally just running really fast towards the hoop, knocking a guy over and then popping it in with your meme height. There's no fucking skill in that.
Gavin Smith
This. For some reason basketball "purists" prefer the sport be a battle of athleticism instead of skill.
Christopher Adams
that mcgwire-sosa season was the only reason i watched baseball.
Anthony Bell
>Steph Curry is the best player I ever watched
This.
Adam Ramirez
>There's no fucking skill in that. except defenders also have meme height and meme athleticism
a dunk is the result of outmanuvering and/or outmuscling your opponent
since nba rules literally prohibit you from effectively defending jump shots, making a 3 doesn't mean you beat a defender, it just means you shot a 3 and it went in that time. some people make them at a higher rate than others, but it's not about beating anyone, you just jump up and backwards and shoot and if anyone touches you, enjoy the free throws
Caleb Brooks
>some people make them at a higher rate than others Because they're more skillful? How is that a bad thing? It's not as if it's luck that they're getting them in. The team that is better at shooting should win, right?
Colton Brooks
I'm not a huge NBA guy. But I will say I internally compare GSW's game play to that of the spread offense being introduced to NCAA. Just fast paced, hard, and hitting bombs.
Exciting at first, but then annoying once everyone starts fucking doing it.
Benjamin King
>implying curry is a system guard
Leo Nguyen
Samefag.
Henry Lewis
Do you even know how much skill it takes to create openings like GSW does? Bball has drifted so far away from fundamentals that people are repulsed when a team is good at them...
Luke Sullivan
Except in game 5 they won by dominating in the paint.
I swear you faggots barely watch the games.
William Nguyen
Oh man.. 1 game.. out of 7.
Keep clinging to outliers, bud.
Jeremiah Moore
driving and crossing over your opponent to the basket are the most exciting plays desu
>getting posterized leading to loud noises >getting ankles broken leading to oooooohhhhs
who's with me?
Colton Rogers
The fact is they CAN and HAVE gone hard in the paint.
Aiden Kelly
Yeah bro, illegal screens are so fucking difficult.
Henry White
>defense can't clog lane due to rules >have to glue defense to 3 point line because meme chucking >wow, the entire lane is wide open!
Idiot.
Henry James
I'm a man with good taste and common sense.
Jaxson Cook
So old guy AND a virgn
Gabriel Moore
>Muh screenz!
I was wondering when that would come out...
James Allen
both
Evan Williams
I tried but I can't watch basketbore for longer than 30 seconds before I get sleepy
Hunter Sanchez
now that i think about it it's a lot like how the english love hoofball
Cameron Long
You are allowed to move with the opposing player as long as it is in the same direction. Also, all players move a little when screening. Feet don't have to be set. People are just mad because GSW is winning.
Kevin Reed
I'm not sure anyone on Sup Forums has tried to shoot a three with a fucking 7 foot monster with their hand in your face.
Thompson hit a crucial three tonight when they were down early with Adams right in his fucking face, the ball perfectly placed right over his hand.
I'm not even a fan or anything but there's some legitimate fucking skilled involved with their precision
Blake Young
this is badass and no one on this board is close to being this skilled, but you are literally explaining that this shot cannot be defended effectively without fouling, which is what makes it bullshit. curry and thompson are gods from 3. gree, barnes, iggy, etc are good from 3, but the rules have made it so 3s are almost 100% up to the >skill of the shooter, and defense just plays no part at all.... the best thing you're allowed to do is cover someones face : jej
Andrew James
> the best thing you're allowed to do is cover someones face Which still makes it very difficult to shoot you know..
Sebastian Garcia
No one likes luck swing bro
Joshua Miller
this actually isn't a bad analogy
Joshua Phillips
agreed. it was happening before, but once the air jordan silhouette immortalized the dunk, everyone wanted to dunk and the game started revolving around physical specimens toppling physical specimens and showy slams, since that was entertaining. and that is how so many centers with cement blocks for feet that couldn't dribble, pass, or hit a free throw somehow managed to last multiple years in the nba.
>"well this seven footer can elevate above the rim and slam down the ball with his hands!" >"perfect, sign him as soon as possible"
how the fuck do you think eurocucks are putting up a fight in the olympics now when the US historically styled on everybody in their sleep for decades? they get drilled with better fundamentals.
Thomas Wright
Effective dribble-drive penetration takes more skill, though. It also takes more effort on the strategy/scheme side of things to effectively open the lane up for your penetrators.
Driving to the rim requires the player to perform a lot more movements than a shooter. More dribbling, "fancier" dribbling, footwork to angle yourself into position for the layup/dunk, body control when finishing over the 7 foot monster barreling down on you.
And contrary to belief, a player's effectiveness in that area isn't all due to "no skill athleticism." There's been countless super-athletes who are shitty in that regard because they can't dribble or aren't coordinated enough to finish in traffic.
What turns people off Curry and the Warriors brand of basketball is that it's a steady diet of screen and shoot, screen and shoot, screen and shoot.
I agree though, he hasn't ruined basketball, since no other team/player can replicate what the Warriors are doing. Curry and to an extent Klay are simply generationally great shooters.
It would be like it Shaq and Tim Duncan were on the same team in their primes, and every possession was just throwing it to them in the post.
It gets repetitive.
Lucas Jackson
Holy shit, This so much. If you show off with the dunks you get a tech, if you even breathe near a star when they drive a foul is called. How the fuck do people prefer a flop infested, slow as fuck style of basketball.
Jaxson Taylor
You can't "show off athleticism" anymore without being called for a tech what are you talking about.
Wyatt Robinson
>Driving to the rim requires the player to perform a lot more movements than a shooter. More dribbling, "fancier" dribbling, footwork to angle yourself into position for the layup/dunk, body control when finishing over the 7 foot monster barreling down on you.
Curry is the best at scoring at the rim in the league, lol.
Kevin Ortiz
No, the 3 point shot is more like a blooter of a goal from outside the box.
Owen Bennett
Change fouling out from 6 fouls to 4. Boom, problem solved. Physical drives gain value.
All I can say is, switching between hockey and NBA last night, hockey was so much more interesting. The game isn't decided by the refs, there aren't ads at every single stoppage, and it's always a team sport. I would never deny that klay Thompson and steph curry are extremely and impressively skilled at what they do, but it's still really boring to watch. And just take last night's game as an example. When gs started making threes around half way through the 4th quarter the only way okc kept up with them for a while was by making some threes themselves.
William Thompson
>how much skill >illegal screens the new fundamentals ladies and gents
Leo Ross
>You are allowed to move with the opposing player as long as it is in the same direction. Also, all players move a little when screening. Feet don't have to be set. >move with the opposing player, feet don't have to be set The new generation of NBA "fans", they don't even know the rules
Brayden Taylor
>they are cool 'cause they don't happen all the time
Jaxon Diaz
how come other nba teams dont chuck a bunch of threes like gsw if it's easy? are other teams just lazy?
Aaron Watson
Sup Forums just likes seeing large muscular black men rub against each other when they try to score a 2. curry shooting 3 takes away the pleasure for them.
Isaac Murphy
there is a simple cure to this, play fucking defense, but that is of course forbidden in the nba
Benjamin Sanchez
headshots happen all the time in shootan tho
that being said both teams get headshots, unlike 3pts when playing vs gsw
Evan Jones
Sup Forums finds big burly black men sexually attractive, and likes watching them forcefully pound their way to the basket for an easy layup, because it reminds them of big black dicks pounding their gfs they don't have.
Angel Peterson
Golden state play style is like watching a movie depiction of the sport. It just looks simplified and plastic
Levi Foster
This desu
Ayden Smith
Well-said. Didn't think of it like that.
Adam Mitchell
I've resisted the memechuck meme. Until last night. That shit is just boring. I don't know why they don't just send out a scrub enforcer to foul the shit out of Curry on his threes, maybe hurt him. There's literally no other defense.
Kevin Bailey
3's are only exciting when they are somewhat rare. After 5 in a row they become mundane.
Dylan Gray
Warrior's Game Plan >drive with any player >help separate a defender >kick out to 3pt line >*swish* Literally what they do all fucking game. Getting very boring
Jacob Diaz
>trying to samefag with a rare flag Top kek
Kayden Nelson
Draymond would have been suspended due to techs if he was on any other team in the league
The NBA loves their Golden Boys because whitey and darkie like them
Michael Brown
No it's >set pick after pick until curry or klay gets open >either a make or they get the rebound anyways with no one in the paint because rebounding threes is random as fuck
There's nothing worse in this league than 3 point miss into ORB into 3 point make
