For decades, Pakistan actually had a higher GDP per capita than India, because India was a socialist country. That higher GDP per capita accrued into marginally higher average wealth in Pakistan, which now has been completely annihilated in a few short years of economic growth in India.
Pakistan is following its Arab heroes into bankruptcy by doubling down on an unsustainable economy driven by raw materials. I feel bad for the Balochis.

From what I have read, the Northern Areas, where you'll likely be trekking, are fine in regards to terrorism. But Kashmir conflicts with India have been heating up in the past month, with more and more fighting going on. I'd carefully watch the news if you plan on going. I mean the likelihood of you getting caught in one of these conflicts is small, but I'd rather not be there if shit starts going down.
