I'd argue that in 2016, every forum suffers from the same problem. Reddit and Tumblr are just as uninspired as Sup Forums, for example, even though the core content is obviously different. I'm pretty jaded, but I come back out of complacency and out of habit. I'm sure there's a lot of lurkers out there who are in the same boat: too tired or too disillusioned to continue posting. The rest who do post strike me as... idealistic? Maybe they think people actually care what they have to say?
On the other hand, when you get down into the nooks, you can still find some gems: the most obvious example being porn I guess. I also like ironic/unironic shitposting, but I can get that basically anywhere now. I guess that's where habit comes back into play.
