OP, it's due to historical fears and prejudices. Chinese American laborers in before the 20th century were almost all male, and in need of wives. Mainstream America feared that Chinese men and white women would commingle, so anti-Asian attacks and stereotyping began. Also, when the Philippines was an American colony, male Filipinos could freely enter the US to work. They apparently relaxed at night clubs and were good dancers and charismatic. So they attracted white women, which again elicited white men's ire. So more anti-Asian male attacks were carried out. Finally, in WW2, since Japan was our enemy, anti-Asian propaganda with dehumanizing cartoons of Japanese men were designed to forestall Asian male-white female connections. Han from fast & furious and Glenn Rhee, both of whom have love interests in their media, are but small steps toward reform.
