In Australia. All cost the same.

good question

kill yourself ;)

>Information Technology
I'm doing this now. Dunno whats gonna happen when I get my degree

i did commerce at uni, im an accountant now. At my current job i work for a manfacturer and last year was offered a managerial position in operations but turned it down. Commerce is broad and can set u up well, stay away from IT, ive been told by my mates who did IT that theres not much work

bump

refered to what OP? difficulty, challenge, salary you may earn some day, job chances?
best way is to choose the stuff you like most, so you don't end up a 40 years old man hating his live, because you didnt do in your life what you really wanted. also midlifecrisis

I'm currently halfway through my science degree (physics and maths). I don't love it and I don't hate it.

What's accounting like?

Computer Science

not that guy but accounting is boring as shit and requires a little maths. but if you like doing repetitive calculations then go for it

I'm studying CS
Interesting stuff as long as you're good at problem solving.
Work (part time) in IT which is super boring. Problems are either trivial user error or obscure software bugs

>commie Australia
>womyn's studies degree costs same as STEM

I figured as much. Is there much social interaction? I really just want a job where I can perform assigned tasks by myself. Not too concerned with how boring they are.

is computer science the same as IT?

you sound like a boring fucking loser
kill yourself

That's good. We shouldn't be encouraging people to get useless degrees because they're cheap.

>We shouldn't be encouraging people to get useless degrees because they're cheap.
>so instead we should imply that all degrees have equal economic worth
>>>/econ101/

its actually a good thing, u get degree based on your high school scores not whether you can afford it or not.

I really am leaning towards this, what is it like?

Have to agree, it is boring but i'll never struggle to find work and it pays reasonably well

No you just artificially keep the degrees at the same price so you don't overflood already low paying sectors.
Also people shouldn't be given an incentive to get a womans studies degree

Another comp sci user here.
Totally worth it, OP. Get ready for a bit of math and if you like and enjoy that, you're golden. There are so many different things you could do - ML,AI, Systems, Networks, PL, Theory, etc

None, get out before you lose all will to live and realise your life is utterly pathetic and do something meaningful in this world

>people shouldn't be given an incentive to get a womans studies degree
I agree, and since dumb niggers like you will see that all degrees are priced the same and think they'll be able to get a good job regardless of their degree, equal pricing encourages them to get useless degrees like womyn's studies
>>>/econ101/

probably gonna do this, for some reason it only requires a 50% avg so I can easily get in

>Computer Science
>Information Technology
>IT Security
Soft Eng / "IT" are lame courses. Comp Sci teaches you to program properly. decent dosh.

>Science
perhaps another science, or engineering, gives you the skills to pay the bills.

So you are actually telling me that higher price means MORE demand?
And I have to learn basic economics?
Neat.

what's college like in aus? have citizenship there so I might study abroad

I'm looking at doing biotech or nanoscience. Looks interesting as fuck.

Even CS looks very promising in Sydney with the advancements in Quantum computers and commercial developments could be exceptional for the economy you could seriously be involved with ground-breaking, history making technology.

Not too familiar with commerce, I'd recomend economics if your looking for a business related degree.

Not sure about an IT degree, I have a teacher with a Phd in IT and he doesn't seem like he's rolling in cash, like at all.

IT security would also be interesting to me because reasons.

exactly. it removes the essential price signals that help everyone make better decisions.

similar to all the import labor because of a "skills shortage". this is just a BS way of saying, "We need X, but we don't like the local price. Can we pls have special privileges to import foreign workers for cents on the dollar?"

fucked country is fucked.

Do you have to do programming in comp sci? Im really not a huge fan of it

>because reasons
yeah you wanna decrypt pedophiles computers for 'reasons'

Virgin-tier degree choices OP. I only see maybe one or two real degrees, the rest are all mickey mouse.

>Computer Science
Good pay, lots of job, will take some time until replaced by robots, can explore cool directions like creating sites and indie games.

Quantum Computing is all Physics tho
CompSci is entirely programming. Even IT has an appreciable amount.

yes, compsci is lots of coding. you get better at it, of course.

helps if you enjoy it. otherwise avoid i guess. other ITs are for bureaucrats in slowly dying big businesses. i'd just do a engineering or a business degree to have real skills.

struggled with some math mostly due to laziness in high school, will i be alright if i pull my socks up? also would you reccomend learning some stuff outside of uni before going in?

code academy to get you started

^ this. prices are information, you fuck with them, you fuck with people's economic decision-making

Do the commerce and IT so if u don't like one u can switch careers without having to go back to uni

what would you reccomend?

really the biggest benefit is its cheap as fuck if youre a citizen, plus most degrees are considered equal no matter where you studied by employers

any student grants I could get?

The job is alright IF you have a nice/funny team. If your team sucks, you won't get up in the morning tbh

We don't have much of a campus culture compared to other countries. Many students commute though a lot still live on campus. It's much easier for us to enter a top tier university because entry to most programs is based entirely on your high school grades, and it's also relatively cheap. So our student demographic is probably less impressive than that of the top tier US or UK colleges. I think the quality of education is still competitive, you just won't need to be a rich ubermensch to study.

The SJWs are trying to corrupt the campuses but they're not having much luck. It's the current year and mine is only just starting to teach men not to rape, and that some women have a penis. Nobody really cares.

im not sure on your situation, but this should apply to all citizens. For one the cost of university in australia is already extremely low compared to the US. On top of that, the Australian government HEAVILY subsidises your actual uni costs so say it costs $18k a year, the government will pay about $8k of it for you. Now you are left to pay the other $10k but if you cant afford it the government gives you an interest free loan (it increases based on inflation not interest) so you can get the degree and you only have to pay it back once you get a job earning more than $45k or

If people aren't smart enough to look up career options with degrees they don't deserve a good job.

No, google "What is computer science"

It's essentially mathematics. It's neither the study of computers or science (according to a few sources i've read including some US unis with good reputations)

Id describe it as the study of mathematics and how it can be used to manipulate computers and new methods of computing.

Studying CS will include learning to code rudimentary software. More advanced programs will entail AI which is EXTREMELY popular lately. Literally every software and hardware company is developing products for AI, from nvidias specially designed supercomputers for AI to AI systems and deep learning algorithms made by microsofts, facebook, google (the list could go on and on).

You could also be involved with big data analytics which is another large and well paying field lately. Big data analysts are getting 100k+ in Sydney.

Id rate CS highly. I'm looking at doing it.

>equal pricing encourages them to get useless degrees like womyn's studies

Wtf, "Oh this rolex is $5k, but this plastic casio is also $5k they must be of equal value."

No one thinks this.

Sorry, forgot about thread.

Well not really - if you're really good at math, you can pursue theory. There's no programming involved(unless you want to), but it's super intensive in math

There are different topics, just see if there's something that you find interesting. For eg, there's statistics and probability(used in ML), discrete math(theory), combinatorial optimization, etc.
Something fundamental like graph theory is used almost everywhere, but I guess you don't have to be an expert unless you want to do research in the area...for an implementation POV, the math isn't super hard, just not easy.
No, I wouldn't recommend learning stuff b4, since whatever you learn is probably gonna be useless, unless you REALLY know what you want to do. I spent a lot of time learning different programming languages and some web design shit since I thought that was cool, but now I'm in ML and that's never used and I've forgotten it as well.

CompSci over all the other computer based subjects. Employers respect it more and you'll be better rounded.

However, security is where the big money is atm and it's only going to increase in need in the future. If you're uni is competent and you've got a handle on it it's worth specialising.

None of the above. Cook meth, you fucking pussy.

cheers for the info bros

I should add it's depressing just looking at him.

Definitely don't study IT, its like the meme where he couldn't get a job with a bachelors so he got a Phd and is still struggling only now he has massive debt. It could just be that he has terrible English skills though.

Absolutely, what a terrible question.

haha, I just couldn't be bothered typing because I already typed so much. Essentially i think it would be cool to work for the NSA or ASD, counter hacking foreign intelligence agencies etc.

This. Don't see robots taking jobs from this sector. Maybe an AI? Ironically it would be CS's that develop an AI that renders them obsolete.

And engineering. But in Sydney they are making decent strides in implementing Quantum computing chips in silicon. We are extremely fortunate to have this right on our doorstep. To make QC a reality you still need CS's to experiment and study the capabilities of the QC.

> would you reccomend learning some stuff outside of uni before going in?

Umm yeah of course you dumb shit.

Why would you not want to give yourself a leg up over your peers, learn as much as you can now, so that when class starts you wont get a stuck. Why would you not want to apply yourself to be the best.

nice straw man.
show us a casio listed for $5k and customers buying them to complete your bad metaphor.

It's called an analogy you retard and the point of it is for you to understand that price does not equate to value and intelligent consumers are aware of this.

science or computer science

>In Australia. All cost the same.

yeah what thats not true. the price of university is covered by the government on your HECS debt which you dont have to repay until you earn over $49K a year. That does NOT mean all degrees cost the same in the end, each individual unit in the degree costs money (~8 units per year, 3-4 years+ for a degree), each unit costs different amounts and not each degree has the same amount of units or even goes for the same number of years. OP is a fucking idiot

proof: im australian and have graduated uni unlike OP

not nearly as smart as you think

IT Security. Get into the right area and you'll get paid shit tons
