It's not bad. I wish the pay were better, and I prefer teaching high school, not middle school; but I feel confident that this crazy teacher I'm replacing will be canned at the end of the year and they'll offer me a contract. We'll see...

Also last night my wife had a lot to drink so the sex was fantastic. I'm at about a 9.5/10 right now.

Buying a house, having a kid and less time for hobbies is making a life a little bit miserable.

OP here...

It sucks not having a contract, doesn't it? I mean, I'm a teacher, not a scientist, but we're sort of in the same boat -- doing what we should be doing, but without the full salary pay.

I don't have to go to faculty meetings or union meetings though, so that's kind of sweet. Still, I'd be making almost twice as much if they had me under a contract.

Hope it works out for you, bro. Hope it works out for both of us...

I think you are lying.
Caught you out fool!

I used to be a complete menace in high school.

Yeah I was kind of a shit-stain in school myself, so it's kind of funny that I decided to become a teacher. The karma is coming back around, but it's fine. I expected it.

We actually had one student teaching applicant who wanted to come back and complete her internship at our school. The teachers remembered her and apparently she was such an unbelievable cunt that the teachers blocked it.

It's the only time I've ever heard of something like that. I mean, you should probably give someone who you haven't seen in 7 or 8 years the benefit of the doubt, but I guess the teachers were just entirely unwilling to do that because of how much of a cunt she was.

I'm 27, sorry

I have the feeling that I could do better and I have to work with assholes.

Thinking about doing freelance stuff, but it is not so easy with what I do.

Question: Does anyone know good IT forum where I can ask career related stuff?

probably not possible unless you're some kinda genius and skipped years in school. I'm gonna be an engineer at 21 without skipping years or anything though.

In the world of IT, everything can be backwards. I have been doing my job now for over 16 years and just recently finished my Bachelors. If you've got the skills, people will pay you and overlook the normal flow of academic progression.

WHAT? 60 hours a week?! How is that even possible?

I arrive to school at 7:15 in the morning and I'm out by 2:30. I stay after once, maybe twice, a week to meet with students who need extra help.

I just barely break 40 hours a week. If you take into account the planning I do outside of the classroom, maybe I work 45 hours AT MOST a week.

What sort of business?

It was unusual for sure. I wasn't there for it and didn't teach the student, but I heard about it and it sounded like there was just way, way too much bad blood there to ever let her back.

I guess I can understand it, though. It sounds petty, but teachers aren't robots and while we're willing to let 90% of the bullshit and shitty remarks slide, there are those few students who can cut you down and you know immediately that it's intentional and they're doing it on purpose. I'm not sure I would want to take on a student teacher who was once my student and had me leaving school every day feeling like a piece of shit.

>what does contract cook mean? and how did you get into the business?

Decent source of money for my age without taking all of my time

24
none, injury to hand has left me unemployed for a year.

That's true.

I mean, I suppose that I COULD work that many hours a week if I really wanted to, and for a while I WAS putting in A LOT of time planning and organizing and everything, but I quickly realized that I was burning myself out for very little appreciable difference in my student's learning.

If 90% of my students seem to "get it" when I've put in 5 hours of planning, and 91% seem to "get it" when I've put in another 5 hours of planning... I just don't see the point. I could use that time to sleep and be well-rested which, I feel, has more of an impact on my teaching than anything else.

It's really easy to "care too much" as a teacher. I love my students, and care a lot about them, but I need to keep my sanity not just for me but for them too. So, I spend some time planning and then spend the rest of my time doing me so I'm in high spirits, healthy, well-rested, enthusiastic...

That rate is in AUS. I don't know what the prison system is like wherever you're from. Here, it's ugly. I work in a protected unit, high profile perps, the elderly, mostly pedofiles. There's a sickly hostility that permeates the entire facility, officers are usually cunts, perps are always cunts, your peers are cunts. It's not uncommon for nurses to verbally abuse eachother toe to toe. Staff turnover is off the hook, we have more agency staff than gov employees. People come in, stay for a few weeks and then just never come back. I fucking hate it, but nursing jobs are super competitive here since we started importing experienced nurses there's nowhere for me to go, except aged care at much lower hourly rate. I think it's time for a career change.

MODS

Does your low happiness level have to do with your job?

I have realized that general happiness is not very much related to work. But work can suck a lot.

I'm 20, only been working there since September, and they're also putting me through colleges. So I'm compensated with qualifications.
