How bad is living in south america? once i get my degree i plan on moving somewhere down there (probably in central america) and getting a job teaching or doing some kind of humanitarian work. I know its not going to be as safe as a developed country but i feel like its not as dangerous as we make it out to be here. also any reccomendations? costa rica or mexico are best choices but i feel like mexico doesn't need foreign teachers too much and costa rica is probably not hurting for them either.
i'd be moving with my gf and we'd be actually living there for a few years at least so i'm hoping for a place that isn't going to get me killed or her raped.
>or doing some kind of humanitarian work >in south america
as expected of a burguer poster
Jace Perez
its an option for me whether you agree with its necessity or not. i'd rather get a paid gig teaching but if i can't it'd be some kind of volunteer position.
Thomas Carter
Dump your gf and move to Brazil Get your 10/10 Brazil gf
Camden Russell
I know a couple of Germans who did that as well. I dont know, they're helping to dig wells and erect churches and stuff. And the South Americans always seem to cheerful and thankful in their facebook stories.
Nolan Ward
southern brazil is pure white people
Nolan Diaz
i don't see brazil as needed anything from foreigners but maybe they do. only problem is i'd have to learn portugese and i barely speak spanish yet.
Bentley Price
>dat denial

Stay away from Chile, go to Argentina they have humildad
Eli Sanders
whats wrong with chile? just because its more dangerous or are you memeing.
Kayden Johnson
stay away from argentina, we are all amerindians, we make daily sacrifices to the pachamama, go to chile, they have high hdi
Ryder Evans
Pero que humildad!
Hey Yankee, go to Argentina they love foreign people, here no one will talk to you, and people will try to lick your face if there's an earthquake.
Angel Martin
My aunt and uncle lived and worked for humanitarian organisations in El Salvador in the '80s and '90s, and are doing the same in Panama now with a teen-aged daughter. They also worked in Cambodia for several years in between, when my cousin was small.
For wealthy, White Westerners, this is pretty much perfectly safe; just stick with people you know, in good areas, and there should be no problems. Of course you have to be careful, but as long as you are reasonably careful, there's really nothing to worry about. You run in to trouble when you start chasing after night-life or spending time with disreputable sorts.
Mind you, I'd advise against humanitarian work in general, as it's deeply immoral.
Leo Reed
>How bad is living in south america? >i plan on moving somewhere down there (probably in central america) ¿?¿?¿?
Also if you want to move to central america the only options are Panama and Costa Rica, they're pretty good if you ask me, i would say that they're even better than Uruguay and Argentina (argies would get very mad at this tho)
Jeremiah Wood
we will call you amigo and steal your mochila
go to chile, they will cook you curanto
Ian Perry
I'm not mad, this is a shithole, never come here
Kevin Ramirez
>South America You should be fine as long as you stay out of the meme countries like Brazil and Venezuela.
>Central America RIP user and his girlfriend's asshole.
Dominic Cook
i could have worded that better, i want to go to south or central america i'm just trying to get a feel for where would be the best to go.
my concern is that a.) i want paid work and b.) i don't want to just live in a little expat bubble, ya know? humanitarian or volunteer work is an option but i'd rather be teaching for pay.
Mason Barnes
As an american you should be good anywhere, it's not easy to get a good job and live in a good area if you're a gringo, but obviously some countries are better than others
Logan Sanders
my understanding was costa rica is, for whatever reason, relatively safe. all the drugs pretty much have to go through there but for some reason crime is low (likely because they just don't charge people/get paid off)
Jeremiah Lopez
They're both memeing, this really isn't the place to get legit answers. Yucatán in Mexico is pretty safe and there's rural places where you could actually make a difference, the region is enjoyable and you get everything from touristy areas where you won't have trouble finding places where you'll be surrounded by other Americans or charming beautiful colonial cities where you really can get immersed in local culture and enjoy great cuisine, you get the beautiful landscapes and natural wonders like Cenotes and the very impressive remains of Maya civilization. That's one good, safe option if you're considering Mexico, in South America Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador can probably ioffer similar experiences and are places where you could do much good, while they're generally amongst the safer coutries you do need to be very careful about selecting the area, and obviously, same in Mexico, be prepared to make some adjustments to stay out of trouble.
Jaxon Sullivan
They have always had good salaries, even by first-world standards. Major international humanitarian organisations pay pretty well. Volunteer work is stupid.
On your second point, you can of course interact and socialise with locals, but you need to make sure they're decent, trustworthy people. I'm not telling you, by any means, to stay in a bubble, but you should try to avoid the riff-raff by limiting your social activities in certain ways. It's just what you have to do if you want to avoid trouble and danger.
Jack Adams
What about puerto rico? you dont even need a passport
Evan Lopez
You don't have to keep yourself to the expat bubble to be safe. Just avoid drugs and shaddy business.
Given that you are in the special position of trying to do humanitarian work, I'd advise against doing human rights activism in countries with conflict like flag. You probably weren't thinking of this kind of occupation, but it's still good advice.
Landon Morales
How close to a city do you want to be? Maybe southern Mexico like Yucatan and chiapas? Those are the sanesthesia places in Mexico and lots of poor indigenous people to help. I imaging northern and rural Guatemala would be good if you stay out the cities
Benjamin Wright
Not OP I've been considering Mexico as a place to work an live in the future Any other areas of careers that are good in Mexico?
Carson Garcia
Mexico is more dangerous than all South America (except for Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil)
Nolan Allen
no, i'd be avoiding anything political. human rights aren't really my concern more shit like and or teaching some kind of skill. maybe english or computer science since thats my degree. i figure i could teach people the basics of using a computer and maybe even show people how to build websites/program if they pick it up quickly(i figure kids would)
mexico probably has every career we do.
Jose Taylor
>3 exceptions
Logan Peterson
Are you that guy that worships Mexico on every fucking thread? Anyways, don't fucking reply to me
Justin Gomez
outside of the cities i would guess, more rural/farming communities. cities would be better off than them i'd imagine and the country would probably be safer. when i was a kid i always wanted to live in like the mountains of peru lol
Dylan Morales
Then you'll be fine.
I'd be more concerned about getting pickpocket and some horrible traffic jams in capital cities.
Wyatt Martinez
The Yucatán peninsula would be better, Chiapas is pretty cool (it's one of the more beautiful places in the world) but outside of San Cristobal you're not likely to ru into large groups of expats. Another option in Mexico would be the Bajio, San Miguel de Allende has practically become an American enclave, although Americans there are mostly pensioners, other choices could be Cancun or Cabo in Baja if you like to party or want people your own age, in any of these places you could literally choose to socialize with nothing but Americans if you're feeling like it and there's certainly poor kids you can help as a teacher.
Mexico is probably the tame safe close to home choice (in the places that I've mentioned) and probably won't be quite as exotic to you as central or south America, the southern cone including Brazil are also places where you can find large expat communities, although I couldn't really tell you much about the scene there, in terms of culture you'll find mostly small charming variations but nothing shocking really, other than in the impoverished areas.
Jacob Mitchell
No m8. Saying "A is the worst asides from X, Y and Z" really makes for a really weak statement, even if it's true.
Connor Reed
Don't fucking reply to me, i swear to god i fucking hate colombians in here
Luke Barnes
Hope you get dengue and you gf goes off with some marero to be honest familia
Michael Allen
bit rude.
Owen Moore
why south america, though? asia is just as pretty and safer.
Caleb Parker
cant smoke dope in asia, famalam
Robert Wright
Gtfo America you lowlife libshit
Blake Jenkins
In Brazil, you need only 5 things: - look at least 6/10 - have money - know how to select the right people as your friends - know how to choose safe spots to live/visit - be nice to others
and you're golden. I've been robbed only once, and all they took were R$5 reais (managed to hide my cell phone in a phony pocket in my pants)
Gavin James
Someone tell me about Chile, specifically the south
Hunter Ward
>How bad is living in SA? Well, if Someone's gonna be Sendíng you money for your monthly expenses from the US, then you'll have a hell of a good life as everything is ridiculously cheap in comparison to the US. If you're going to Central America, go to either Panama or Costa Rica, there are no other options.
Andrew Thomas
they all went to orlando and turned it into a ghetto just like turd island puerto rico
Wyatt Morgan
just remember a few things middle class on up people will want nothing to do with you you will only attract hood rat girl so no white girls you will always be viewed as a sex tourist anyone can be killed do not wind up like this guy did in costa rica brazilians are subhumans worse than colombians or venezuelans
- being white means you will be treated like a god - tease brazilian women with the dream of a usa green card
Gabriel Williams
>how bad is south america? >costa rica or mexico are best choices Typical burguer, go shit on your designated aisle
Logan Perez
Well, if you come to SA with a "normal" mindset, that means working, travelling around and not getting involved in stupid stuff, then you wouldn't have any kind of problems. No one gives a fuck if you're a gringo as long as you mind your own business
Cameron Perry
Why do white folks always want to move to dangerous ass places where they are the minority and everybody hates them?
Ayden Lee
No one hates them. But they have an affinity for getting into weird situations. They do stuff an average citizen of any of these shitholes wouldn't ever do and that's why they stick like a sore thumb and become and easy prey for others to take advantage of them
Owen Green
>wanting to live in central america If you want to die just shoot yourself.
Zachary Gutierrez
>middle class on up people will want nothing to do with you what? rich people love having gringos with them
Gabriel Cruz
I think Chile is a developed country, or almost that. It would be a good place to live, but that's not what you want I suppose.
You can come here and help, our country is fucked up in so many levels, a while ago we imported thousands of cuban doctors to help the population. "We" need humanitarian help in plenty of things.
Spoken Portuguese is not hard, you can learn it in a couple of months. Formal Portuguese, on the other hand, is naturally semi-impossible, even for us.
Hudson Williams
The White God Factor - you will be a king. Go read the Rooshv Travel forum. South America is all about drug/sex tourism. Why else would you voluntarily go to a fucking ghetto continent. Also lots of criminals hiding out.
pic: Colombian Gringo chasers
Josiah Parker
You need to speak Spanish fluently in order to teach English first, did you know?
Oliver Allen
You do not you semi-white faggot. Local language skills are rarely required to teach English.
Hunter Torres
What the Colombian said. For some weird reason, you people love to go to favelas and other dangerous places and then for some "mysterious reason" you end up kidnap or killed Gee I really wonder.
Henry Myers
>you do not you learn your own language first before teaching ROFL
Joshua Sanchez
He's right though.
Benjamin Cox
OOOOOOH
Levi Clark
They're bringing nukes to Nicaragua....
Michael Howard

From now on, call me Big Boss. One must die, and one must live.
Isaac Wright
Nothing wrong with that sentence. He could've used a comma after "not" tho
Grayson Clark
Don't come, we're full
Samuel Hughes
White people only!!
Levi Anderson
It was pure white people before the left-wing government and globalist NGOs began sending Haitians and Senegalese "refugees" there.
Carson Flores
Goddamit you are pathetic
Ayden Bailey
Well we got violent zones (like almost all Latam) but they are very focalized, so are in certain way contained. Also, the drugs here are waaaay to common, so most druggies are relatively calm
