Wait staff are paid less than minimum wage because they're expected to be tipped. It's a really fucked up and unfair system, but it's the way the system is. Being pissed off and complaining about having to leave a tip isn't going to put food on a waitress' table, that's what tips do. And until that changes, not tipping is an asshole move.

If they dont make enough in tips the employer has to pay the difference to meet mimimum wage so it doesnt matter if you tip or not, tips are just extra money.

I work for tips. I do very well. I worked 5 to midnight. I made $330. We have no tip places. Pei Wei ... Chipotle.... Whatever. I'm good at what I do. I have extensive knowledge and you will enjoy your experience . I try to be awesome all around... I have consistently turned 8% tippers into 20% tippers. The beauty of the business is that meat eaters eat meat. I'm good at it, I do well. The mediocre simply exist or fall by the wayside. That said, I'm saving to buy a place because people as skilled as me are going to be squeezed out by you faggoty worthless piece of shit as a work force generation of socialist "everyone gets a trophy" generation.
Tipping really is bullshit. My friend owns a sushi restaurant and his dumbest server makes at least $20 an hour, a cute girl can double that on a good shift. Thats the real reason they fight tooth and nail not to just raise the minimum wage for them up to the regular minimum wage. These sob stories about putting food on the table are bullshit. If as a waitress someone isn't making $20- $30 an hour, they are either actually retarded and won't last as a server anyway, or they work at a shit restaurant and need to move. The girl at Applebee's working a weekend dinner shift is doing just fucking fine.

I'll tip if I feel like it and don't tip if I don't feel like it. Honestly, it doesn't even matter to me whether the service was good or bad. It just depends on my mood I guess and how much change I have on me if I'm paying cash. If I'm paying cash, sometimes I'll tip 30-50% because I don't have smaller change. Sometimes I'll tip 1% or nothing if I don't have more change. I guess it just depends on what's convenient for me. I don't want to sit there forever trying to figure out how I'm going to give the server a fair tip. I couldn't care less about the dude/chick. After paying, I just want to get up and go about my business. I realize this is completely irrational kek but that's just me...

Apparently you don't know how the US works, as long as you're meeting the minimum requirements put out by the feds you're fine. For example the minimum wage for non exempt employees in California is $10/hr but if there aren't any laws saying that tipped employees must be compensated to reach that 10/hr they would only have to be compensated to the federal minimum

I'd much rather an automated screen take my order so I don't have to listen to your stupid attempts at a joke, or lying to me about what you "favorite" is, when your trying to push out the old shit. Chili's is getting close, I can pay right at the table with that little video thing, why can't I make my order with as well? Anyway, moral of the story is waitresses are not taking home $2-$3 an hour, it's closer to $30 an hour. And no one gives a shit how hard you think you work.
Not tipping in a culture where tips are expected after receiving quality service makes you an asshole, it's just that simple. The great thing is though, being an asshole isn't against the law, so if you don't want to tip, don't. You'll never face any consequences for it unless you go to the same restaurant over and over to the point that everyone recognizes you, and even then you'll just get dirty looks and threats of messing with your food that they won't follow through with because they don't want to get fired.
Besides, it's not just americans who are expected to tip. Everyone thinks Europe is some glorious land of no tipping, but living in Switzerland and Germany people still do it (except at bars). Sure they do a lower %, but I've never seen them leave nothing at a restaurant, and I'm talking about the natives not tourists. Tipping is just a way to show appreciation for good service. The wait staff salary doesn't really matter - it's not your job to pay their wages. As mentioned the restaurant will make up the difference up to the minimum wage, but a waitress that has to do that often won't have a job for long. I don't see a problem with this though - if they aren't providing good enough service to earn tips even from cheap bastards like the OP, they should find a job they're actually good at.
