Because it is fun. And it is Blizzard made. Name a single Blizzard game that isn't a thing. As one of the most successful companies, they will be hated upon, that's just plain physics. But the games they release aren't any less good.
Also, I can't remember when was the last time I was having so much fun with a game. It is what it is, a simple shooter without anything deeper in it. And as such, it meets expectations.

I just watched a cinematic trailer for Overwatch and had a thought: whatever team does Blizzard's animations for their trailers should be making movies, not necessarily coming up with the story but just animating someone else's.

I only just discovered the game actually. I haven't gotten to the paragon part yet. Ive seen it in the menu, but I don't know what it means yet. I decided after getting burnt out on destiny and borderlands that I would play a game that I've never played not knowing anything about it and just farther around on it and have fun instead of grinding my ass off.
if you play on your own with random people the game sucks so much ass. If you have five friends and get together and play then it's a blast. Last night kicked ass and got our asses handed to us but it was fun and hilarious because we were all chatting and having fun. It's one of those games that you can't just pick up and play. You need a group.

As someone who has nearly 4000 hours in tf2 I will say that it definitely cannot be matched as a simple, visceral class based team shooter. Overwatch is very good but seems more cerebral and less immediate. In other words it doesn't feel quite as good as tf2 but it matches it in every other respect.
i wouldnt compare overwatch to MOBAs, it's tf2. sure, it's moba-ish objectives, but that's it. and you are entirely right about SMITE being the fucking best MOBA ever.

Storywise, I thought Wings of Liberty wasn't too bad. Everything that happened seemed to fit with everything I remembered from Starcraft/Broodwar. It was Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void that screwed it all up by making Kerrigan the "chosen one"

A lot of people grew up on Blizzard games. Some of them have families, children and careers now so Blizzard has started marketing towards the casual market.

Yes, I didn't mind Wings of Liberty's story either but the gameplay just gets really dull to me after awhile. When I played Legacy of the Void, I just quit about halfway through the campaign, wrapped it up by watching it on youtube and just said "never again Blizzard". I feel bad for younger guys who missed out and didn't get the chance to really put some time in Broodwar, it's a masterpiece. In my own personal opinion, it makes SC2 look like a pile of poo. I understand if people disagree, it's only my opinion.
