A lot are old and done by people that didn't know what the animal should look like. Some are done by amateurs, who are shit. It's basically removing the organs and stuffing them with a material.

Dunno about now but back in the day they killed an animal and brought it to a taxidermist who hadn't seen the animal alive. Maybe some of the other derps are done by hunters doing a DIY job.
