Viet here, you can ask me anything about the Vietnamese language and culture

Viet here, you can ask me anything about the Vietnamese language and culture.

pls be more relevant :)

w-why do you eat dogs?

What in your opinion distinguishes the vietnamese from their immediate neighbours, beyond obvious things like language.

There's a little chance that it might be, not anytime soon through.

Why do you use the Latin alphabet?

No.
Almost all our culture came from Chinese. Chinese eyes is tinier than us (believe it or not, i don't care), and we are a bit darker.

I plan to go from hanoi to ho chi minh city by bus
Is this a good idea?
any tips?

Ask the French missionaries.

why do you pay with dongs?

From North or South ?
Are there still today significant differences between the two ?
Are there some remains of the Champa

What city in Vietnam has the best women?

If I want a threesome with some Vietnamese prostitutes how much will it cost?

Are you from north or south?
Are you Catholic?

Boy i would be a long ride, you have to go through passes and mountains, you should take a plane instead.

hello, Etsunan!

are you East Asians or South East Asians?

it's just my imagination then

What do Vietnamese in Vietnam know/feel about Czechia? I suppose half of your nation has relatives living here

>From North or South ?
South
>Are there still today significant differences between the two ?
None, although the South is a little more redneck-y.
>Are there some remains of the Champa
There're still some left, feel bad for them tho.
>Are you Catholic?
No, i follow traditional "religion" (basically ancestor worship)

I like Vietnamese girls because they look like Cantonese girls but have nicer facial features and tanned skin.

I want to know how much a Vietnamese prostitute costs in HKD and whether i'll be able to live in Vietnam for the sole purpose of bumming around and having sex.

What is your greatest cultural contribution to the world that isn't local cuisine?

WEW your feet must be hot. Burning even.

Nah, people actually eat dogs.
Average rich European country. Not many knows about the existent of the Viets in Czech.
Southeast Asians my friend.

There's a chance that you'd get cop'd, be careful.
None.

nice bro
tell me
which vietnam cities have a lot of factories
Im looking for vietnamese goods

why are family names NGUYEN and TRAN so common?

*Portuguese.

For the South only: Biên Hòa and Sài Gòn.

Heh, i just notice that you're from Peru, then mountains wouldn't be your problem. :)

Well thats really surprising, there are about 60k of your countrymen here, i myself had like ten vietnamese classmates throughout my school years and there is a local viet store on literally every corner. You from north or south?

do the vietnamese love THOTS?

Well, American Vietnamese is always more relevant. I'm Southerner by the way.

Could you go to Hanoi and check out 53 Hang Luoc Street pls? My dad used to own a pub there.

What's a THOTS?

as a marxist-leninist, I have to say that I wish I could move to vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh was a hero and i'm glad North Vietnam prevailed against a capitalist dictator in the south

slang ghetto word for whore

Does it pride you that you literally shit on wooden sticks enough to beat the US military?

What are the things you would recommend to do/see on your country as a tourist ?

why your flags are the same?

Is there black markets where I can exchange foreign currency (like dollars and 500 euros bills) or I can do that only on banks?

Your opinion on Cao Dai?
What are they like?
Growing, declining?

You could see propaganda everywhere, people don't care about communism tho.

*teleports behind you*
I have called the peruvian police, kiddo

That maybe explains it, i suppose most of our Congs are from the commie north. Still its kind of weird you don't even know about us, and in here "Vietnamec" (Vietnamese) is a regular term meaning "shop"

>Your opinion on Cao Dai?
I don't know much about it, it's only present in Tây Ninh, the government seems fine with it.

what topics should I not talk with viet people?

How commie are you guys really?

Translate this to Vietnamese:

It is time to defeat the American imperialist pig-dogs.

The war, they would have a very hard time to explain it to you in English.

You should talk about how your life is in your home country and maybe sport by the way, many people like to hear it.
Meme tier.

"Đã đến lúc để đánh bại lũ chó đẻ (dog-birth) đế quốc Mỹ". :')

And pls explain how it would sound if it was translated back into English word by word. Help me understand how your language works.

Lots of your people in Slovakia too, you behave well (well, it is true some Viets deal in drugs but most work in Asian restaurants etc. and anyways drugs don't concern me, you don't behave like gypsies at least).

Interesting. Are there any veterans or something who've realised what they fought for was worth jack shit?

Just paste it in Google Translate, it's the correct pronounciation and also the lowest you could find. We often talk much faster.

Thanks :)

In Slovak it would be:

Prišiel čas poraziť tých amerických imperialistických prasopsov!

Literally: Came time defeat those imperialist pigdogs.

It sounds a lot dumber translated word by word from Slovak in English because we use declensions (we change word endings and sometimes whole words based on the function of them in the sentence - example: prísť changes to prišiel, imperialistickí to imperialistických etc.)

I have read Vietnamese is not monosyllabic as popilarly believed, but you write every syllable of a word separately. Is that true and if yes, what words in that sentence are actually separate?

do you think vietnam is the next china ? I mean for the making of cheap goods

I had been studying vietnamese by myself
tôi là ngươi nước ngoài
tôi muôn mua cái này

Odd, i misread what you mean. Vietnamese structure is very similar to English by the way.

Đã (past tense, similar to "will" in English but for the past) đến lúc (it's time, word by word translate of "it's time" is "nó là lúc") để (to) đánh bại (defeat, Chinese word) lũ (group, a bunch) chó (dog) đẻ (birth) đế quốc (empire or imperial, Chinese word) Mỹ (America).

I did not express myself right. I mean the word order etc. Not how it sounds out loud but how are the words connected and ordered in the sentence (I am a linguistics nerd).

Also what idioms/expressions do you have that would be funny in English. For example Slovak has "pre mňa za mňa" = "for me behind me" = whatever, or "spadol si z višne?" = "have you fell from a cherry tree?" = are you crazy? or "to je jedno" = "it is one" = i don't care (when presented with a choice)

>do you think vietnam is the next china ? I mean for the making of cheap goods
We aren't big enough or wonderful enough for it, even for making cheap goods.

So "Was time to defeat group dog birth imperial America?". That sounds a lot different from English sentence structure desu (or Slovak sentence structure which is different from both).

Some like chị ngã em nâng="elder sister falls younger sister lifts"=people in a family have to each other.

Ếch ngồi đáy giếng="frog in the well"=dumb fucks who can see past what they've seen

*Was it's time to defeat group dog birth imperial America?

You picked a odd sentence, most of the time it can be translated word by word (get past the adj-n structure in English by the way, it's n-adj in Vietnamese).

What's it like knowing you live in a dictatorship and that communism sucks?

Nice. Btw thinking about it, we have a lot of idiomatic ways to express indifference - mám to na hákun (i have it on the hook), mám na saláme (i habe on salami) or rude - mám v piči (i have it in the pussy) = i don't give a fuck, serem na to (i shit on it) = i am not bothering with it anymote etc.

Maybe they reflect the life and mentality of our people and culture :D

Most people don't give a fuck lol.
>dictatorship
We just changed prime minister and president this year. But yeah i know what you mean.

Many sentences from Slovak can be translated word by word to English, but many don't. Declension rewally frees up the word order, through some orders don't work and some sound weird/like Yoda.

Do you use articles (like a, an, the in English)? We don't.

If you question the government and the communist party will you get sent to a labor camp like in North Korea

>Do you use articles (like a, an, the in English)? We don't.
Kind of (a is một), but we take it a step further, we call it classifiers, Vietnamese has like dozens of it.

What does dhong mean?

No, we got sent to jail to get fat and had our health checked by a doctor.

I will list the classifers that i remember:
cái (non-living objects)
chiếc (same as above)
con (animals)
cây (plants)
quyển (things that have many pages)
tờ (fewer pages)
ổ (structures that look like bread)
món (dishes)
môn (school and scientific subjects)
and a bunch of others

>dhong
Đồng? Đồng means copper. It's kind of funny 'cause in chemistry copper is Cu, and cu means benis :DDD in Vietnamese.

What do you think about the Republic of Vietnam?

I think the Republic of Vietnam is true Vietnam.

The Socialist Republic Vietnam is like North Korea

isn't it?

how do you feel about this

Dunno, i didn't live at the time. But the Republic of Vietnam's influences here are tiny, almost non-exist.

Ý có vẻ là một nơi rất thú vị.

how do you feel about foreigners in your country? tourists or otherwise. what are the reputation other nations have in viet?

do western woman look like horrible ham beasts compared to your native woman population? kinda like caucasians view sheboons?

>how do you feel about foreigners in your country? tourists or otherwise. what are the reputation other nations have in viet?
Cool, rich and good people.
>do western woman look like horrible ham beasts compared to your native woman population? kinda like caucasians view sheboons?
Anything white is consider superior here.

what's the difference between you and kermboja?

Wow,. Interesting how languages with a "simple morphology just put the complexity elsewhere, like tome, these classifiers etc.

>kermboja
Cambodia? Both are third world countries, but Vietnam is more populous and more ching chong, a bit richer and has less AIDS.

Whats the most common viet girls name? I played FF14 online few years ago and met this viet girl as my static group. But shes too shy to tell us her name because she said its local name.

Eh? But my friend worked at the offshore oil platform in Vietnam, why the third world?

Vietnamese is simpler in some aspects, there's no genders, no conjugation, no cases, words always stay the same, stable structure (always SVO).

i doubt they'd see it that way. they see the war as their fight for independence.

Is rice noodle popular in vietnam?

But you offset it with tone and classifiers.

Ngọc, Tú, Vân, Nga, Giang, Ánh, Châu, Duyên, et cetera

And pronouns, i think that there're over 20 ways to say "i" or "you".

Bún, phở, hủ tiếu, bánh canh, bún mọc and there are several local dishes base on those 5 types of rice noodles.

What's the typical standard of living for an average Vietnamese working class male? Hows the economy doing?

And desu the classifiers remind me of gender, except put outside the word.

Woah how does that work?

Alright thanks. Her in game name was Kikino Kino. Any chance one of those name you mentioned relate to her in game name?

Why are viet girls so mean? ;_;

is there resentment for local woman fucking with rich foreigners? like in thailand?

>get cop'd
prostitutes are illegal?

You refer yourself as:
Tôi if you talk to the ones that are your friends and at the same age as you
Bố (or ba) if you're a father, talking to your sons or daughters
Mẹ (or má) if you're a mother
Con if you talk to your father, mother, grandparents and anyone who is significantly older than you
Em if you talk to your elder brothers/sisters, or anyone who is imsignificantly older than you
Anh if you're a male talking to the ones who are imsignificantly younger than you
Chị, same as anh, but you're a female.

Plus 20 others that i couldn't type out.

>prostitutes are illegal?
This country is in Asia, of course it's illegal.

What are all those markers in your alphabet? Tone indicators? How many tones does the language have?

Remember that one time when we napalmed 2,000,000 of you jungle gooks?

That was pretty hilarious desu.
>nip nong fried dong
