Prosecutorfag here. Realistically, can they prove (1) pics were posted of her; (2) you posted them; and (3) posting those pictures is a crime.
I would think all 3 of those would pose problems, especially on a website where threads are purged within no time at all. Your ex and a friend testifying to it could be enough, but that is unlikely going to convince police to lay a charge or a prosecutor to run a trial.

Archiving IP addresses doesn't prove (1)that it was actually her in the pic (do they archive the image too?) (2)You posted it (does anyone else have access to that IP address, or to your devices capable of posting pictures?) or (3) it is actually a crime to post her pic (is it actually a crime where you live?)

Girl ran out on my friend and left him with two kids so she could get fucked by randoms on the coast. I posted her nudes she sent to me on snapchat right after they broke up, she was wanting to fuck any friends of his.
Anyway someone recognized her and told her, apparently she sent the same nudes to a bunch of people and had no idea who leaked it. The cops literally shrugged and said what do you want us to do.
She pushed for weeks and weeks, putting up facebook posts how the person who did it was going to jail, complaining how unfair it was that it's ruined her life.
Anyway, eventually the cops tried to get in contact with both 4-chan and snapchat. 4 chan said get a court order from our jurisdiction. When you do that you will find we have no way to find anything. Snapchat said they delete everything particularly relevant but with a warrant they might be able to find a list of who the pictures were sent to. She knew that anyway.
Long story short. You are fine. Nobody likes co-operating with cops, even if she pushes for months and gets court orders where everything is based 4 chan will have no idea who posted anything.

I think it's because the subject did not give the person permission to distribute. Also it can fuck with the subject's reutation and therefore possible jobs in the future. It can also lead to more privacy issues.

Copyright law doesn't care about that. The photographer owns the copyright, so he gets to decide where it's copied to. The stuff you mentioned is true- that horrible shit can happen- but the courts don't give a fuck.
I actually Googled this since my previous post. If it's a selfie, you can use copyright to get the images removed, because the subject IS the author. But if you're not the photographer, then you have to go the harassment route to try to get them removed. Copyright only works to protect the author.
Subjects don't have to give permission to print the photo, unless there was some contract signed where the author gave joint copyrights to the subject or something.
