Any other flying faggots here?

I'm really thinking about buying a Cessna 140 or any other cheapo winged machine and going flying around

I should post this in outdoors or something

why?

PP here. Yeah, a 150 usually gets the job done. But do you have the money to maintain it, or is that not your thing?

It's pretty fun.
:[ It makes me mad how dough blowing is flying.
I was thinking on buying one in the future but I really haven't thought it through.

yeah, no shit. why do you want to own a plane fuk tard

if you don't have a reason other than it's fun. rent

I have my endorsement. I can fly in class golf. anything else I need an instructor

I know man. Cost me $8,000 just to get my license. Best to follow the 3 F's rule; if it floats, flies, or fucks, rent it.

The same reason you want to own a car instead of renting one or going about in taxi.
It's yours and there is a connection. Similar connection there is between a ricer and a Honda civic.

Don't fly into the new world trade center

Are you still a student?

First you buy a plane, then let others rent it from you and charge up the ass for such privilege. The only thing you have to worry about is maintenance.

Shhhhh I've been planning it for years don't blow my secret

How normie, get a 777-300ER

No, you own a car because you're going to drive it everyday. Unless you're going to get your commercial license and do sightseeing flights, island hopper flights, bush flights, etc then you're probably not going to fly everyday if just for the simple reason of cash money. 100LL isn't cheap. Neither is maintenance nor a permanent tie down. You're much better off renting or at the very least, fractional ownership. It just makes more sense.

Sooo, you set up a FBO ?

Easyjet first officer here

Wow, you could say this thread really took off.

Oh shit.
That's super sweet. Your company makes like 24% profits.
Do they at least pay you good money to live in the expensive money hungry hole London is?

Pay is good yea, but my HUB is not Gatwick or Stansted . I operate out of Liverpool

Shit alright. I can respect that.

Alternately you could get an ultra light.
Just as much fun and cheap cheap cheap to fly.

Also super deadly.

Naaa - no more than other GA flying.

When i'm not flying in real life, I am on my simulator on an application called Prepar3D. Need a powerful PC for it though

I personally knew someone who died in one.
That shit is deadlier than jumping out of a plane without a parachute.

What do you fly in real life?

I guess so. But you got to admit, it's sketchy af. I've been in and flown a couple myself and you really ned the perfect day to operate them

Right on man, me too.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of them. I prefer a closed cockpit.

A319/A320
Only aircraft in the fleet

Nice.

>Only aircraft in the fleet
Isn't easy jet literally only operating a320's ?

Got offered a job with British Airways on the 777-200ER and the 777-300ER. unsure whether to take it or not as i hate longhaul!

correct my dude

This is for sale near me. I like the idea but it would cost over $60,000. for lessons and licensing.

You're retarded if you don't get the job
You're retarded if you don't buy that shit just look at the cockpit

I mean, the pay is kick ass, you probably don't do much manual flying, you spend a lot of time away from family (if you have one), and you get to see more of the world. It's a tough call, but coming from someone who's working on their commercial rating, I would take it man.

Basically me the day after i graduated from CTC Wings. Was flying my 172 and oil temperature was drastically high, chose to return to the field and land... 5 mile final and hey ho she starts chugging and the prop stops spinning! Ditched her just short of the threshold . Scariest moment of my piloting career

How old are ya, friendos? I'm working on it too.
Currently on ground school :/

I found a sweet 177 for 28 grand. 75 or so I think it was. It needed some work but was a nice plane, Aviconics had been upgraded, Autopilot added etc. Wife said no! /tear Was a nice 70s Neon pee green too lol

Room for one that's all I need.

that's the thing, i have a girlfriend who hates it even when i have a night lay over in Amsterdam etc haha

I'm 19 my dude! Got my initial PPL at 17.

Shit, I can imagine. At least you're alive though! What was dealing with the FAA after that like?

This is why you follow the lists and check the oil.
Too low amount causes the engine to overheat.
You're lucky it didn't stop before the runway.

I've considered getting my pilots license. Anyone in the states have any idea how expensive it is? Can you rent planes to fly for a reasonable rate once you have your license or is this the hobby of the 1 percent? I'm just a mailman.

Ultralight - 2 cycle engine - recommended overhaul every 300 hours
GA plane - 4 cycle engine - recommended overhaul every 2000 hours

Cessna 150 glide slope - 8:1 so at a cruising altitude of FL 110 engine loss would allow you to glide at 50 kph with 10% flaps for a distance of 16-2/3 miles and a little over 17 minutes to land.
Ultralight glide slope - 5:1. Think of what altitude most ultralights stick around and think of how much time you've got after an engine failure with a 5:1 glide slope.

Ultralights aren't permitted to fly over heavily populated areas, can't carry more than 5 gallons of fuel and can't go faster than 64 MPH.

There is a reason people fly GA

Aye! I'm from Amsterdam! But yeah, hopefully she would be willing to work with you since that's your dream and all.

i'm 22 and i've been flying as a first officer since i was 19. Left school at 17, several applications and 1 year and 9 months later and i flew my first PAX flight from Liverpool - Malaga

very true.

W/o scholarships and prior training ~$10,000

19 as well, got my PPL 2 months ago.

Aye good shit guys.

What the fuck? For just a recreational license to fly around with? I'm not talking about commercial stuff.

Private pilot's license requirements are pretty inexpensive to achieve and it's a good idea to rent a plane and fly instead of doing road trips in my opinion.
Ballpark of $10'000 dollaros

I'm 18 suck it grandpas :D

com pilot here. just failed a pre employment piss test for marijuana. thought i was clean. passed a walgreens piss test. didn't pass for the dot one. career isnt over but ive got to live with a failed drug test on my record for a long while. working on my cfi rn. also id just try and find other flying fags to go in with you on a fractional ownership type deal and get a 172, warrior, or even a used 182. youd regret getting a shitty plane that

Yes sir. just for a Private Pilot. I mean, you can get Sport and/or glider and balloon, but where's the fun in that?

I can attest to this. My PPL was right around 9k.

>$10,000

guess im sticking to my motorcycle, fuck that.

i had checked, saw nothing on walk around. Turned out there was an Oil leak and the engine was basically like an oven. I got really high praise for being able to make it as far as i did, considering i had no engine and just finished flight school

Nice job mayne.

Shit, I feel for you. The ganja gods are hurt too.

you can get it for cheap if you know someone with a plane and a cfi willing to fly with you. then youd just pay gas and flight fees instead of rental which is where all the money comes from mostly.

If it floats, flies or fucks, rent it. The maintenance costs alone will kill you.

dont let user fool you. thats if you go to a school. You can find a Flight Inst. at any airport that will almost always charge a lot lot lot less. I paid about 75 bucks an hour, that was for fuel and inst time. A lot of CFIs will teach cheap cause they want the hours to move on to bigger birds. Go to an airport and look for a flight club. Prob charge 100 bucks an hour. you need a min of 40 hours. 60 is pretty normal before taking the Final Check ride.

Refer to the 7th comment.

yeah man. i wont be enjoy the devils lettuce anytime in the future. im sticking to flying and drinking heavily, which i feel like almost every pilot i know does lol ive been researching a job that does surveying and they lend a 172 to the pilot and you just travel the mid west and survey. they pay for everything. and you get 28 an hour which isnt bad.

OP you're going to want to do fractional ownership or not buy it at all unless youve got a kick ass jobs.

leaving you to now chaps, flying a few ;legs tomorrow on lates! I'll be doing the evening LPL-BFS firstly if you want to track me on flight radar.

(pic related, lpl landing on p3d)

Do I need an atp licence for that cause I want to do that shit

Yeah man, I'm going to have to give it up soon myself. Sucks cock. But that sounds kick ass! I'd take that shit in a heart beat.

>Liverpool airport
Look at this nigga flying on his own airport even on the sim.

Get yourself a Piper Super Cub..

Fly a GYROCOPTER!
youtube.com/watch?v=9kxu543VwlA

just a commercial rating. really straight forward flying. they send a flight plan the day before with a general location, altitude, airspeed, and time of day, and you just go and take picture. the camera they mount actually does this all itself when its hooked up to the laptop that is inside the airplane. its called geovantage
and i know man. i gave it up for well over a month in prep, but i was a pretty heavy smoker so i guess i should have started my cleans sooner.

I fly around your mom a few times cause she so fat

Damn. I guy I knew when I was an AMT who got fired for it. but I wish you the best of luck man! try not to let that fire water get the best of you ;)

STOL cub. you can take off and land in less than 100 ft. probably less. just put that fucker in your back yard.

Man they got those all over Utah.

I want to fly one of theses.

And so easy an autistic nigger could even fly it..

i appreciate it man. honestly man, once its deregulated federally, the FAA is going to have to change their allowances with pot. itll be treated like alcohol to an extent im sure. but thats decades away.

That sounds much more reasonable. Will I still get good training that way though? Once you get that type of license what kind of planes can you rent? Can you rent a twin engine or is that just for single engine aircraft below a certain weight limit or something?

Owning your own aircraft gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility than renting or fractional ownership.... No bookings and working around other people. Go where you want when you want, but yep, it'll cost ya! I'd say I pay around double per hr what renting would cost, but it's worth it to me...

exactly! even though its a taildragger, it doesnt matter because its easy as fuck to fly. the stall speed is like fucking 20knots

They're fun planes.. My father in law has a totally restored 1964 Super Cub, thing is sweet.

I could probably run that fast

Yeah, I'm anxiously awaiting that day lol. They're so wrong about it, it hurts. One of the pamphlets I got during AMT training was how you can overdose and die on Marijuana. It made me sad needless to say haha

youll get training. Just remember every CFI is different and has different ways of teaching, some are hands on, others hands off. You might have 2 or 3 different CFIs if you join a flying club. Buy is block if you can. Find out what a 10 hour block would cost and get then that way. a normal run of the mill PPL is for a single engine. If you train on a Cessna 172, youll be able to fly a Cessna 15/172 etc. Youll have to take a check ride if you rent planes.

Aye right on. Do you have any pics? Sorry, I get off to planes more than I do the porn on Sup Forums.

Well if we want to be honest, you can overdose and die on pot. You can overdose and die on anything, too much caffeine will kill you, too much sugar will kill you, too much water will throw you into cardiac arrest. It's just really really difficult to do.

trips dont lie. mother fuckers are slow.

What's a check ride?

Well hell I just call my Part 135 FBO and they'll take me wherever I want whenever I want in a Cessna Citation. Sure it costs me a lot but it's worth it

True, but if you can find 15 acres of it and smoke it within 15 minutes.... you're a god among-st men.

have you seen how thats actually done? it would be like smoking a fucking pound in under an hour or something impossible like that.

they take you up and make sure you know what you are doing.

the practical flying (and oral) test. A lot like your driving test... only with a plane. And an hour long verbal quiz at the beginning.

Would you have to do this every time you rent, or just the first time with whatever company owns said plane.

honestly though it is brutal. i was looking up articles about how pilots based out of recreational marijuana states deal with it, and the FAA (federal government) over rules the state given right because its a federal program. fucking idiots cant even distinguish on whether pot is less harmful than meth or heroin.
>mfw

No sure. Ive never rented one before. Im sure once they have you on file you only need to do it once. Maybe once every 6 months to a year you might have to do another one. Cant blame them. they are trusting you with a 150,000 plane if they have newer ones.

It's for your license. one time deal. Or for whatever rating you are applying for.

First time you rent the plane from the company. Most places will probably want you to keep current in their plane as well, which usually is 3 take offs and landings in the previous X days (usually 60 or 90, 60 at my local FBO).
