I think I have a nice understanding of Where Jazz was, but my feelings from listening to Jazz is that it's kind of an ever evolving genre. Each decade introduced more variety, interesting soloists with new ideas, it's a genre that seems to have changed and evolved rapidly in different directions.
I'd say it's one you look back on to appreciate its history as you keep up with what's new in the world of Jazz, but I don't know current Jazz musicians or where Jazz is today (Ironic.)
