MEDICAL ADVICE

MEDICAL ADVICE

Last weekend, I got extremely drunk and "tried" to hang myself with a belt. I looped it over a crossbeam and tied a noose, then let my body weight cut off circulation and my airway.

Of course, being the failure that I am, I could even do this right and pussied out before I lost consciousness.

The problem now is that for the last week I've experienced this dull ache in my neck that won't go away. It was initially localized to my central-lower neck (right where the neck meets the shoulders) but now has spread, with radiating pain, out to my shoulders.

Anyway, I think that it might be a cervical herniated disk causing radiculopathy (i.e. a pinched nerve) but I am not certain.

I just moved to a new city and am not covered by my insurance to visit any in-area providers, and I cannot afford to take the time off work to travel back to where I have my insurance to see a provider.

So anyway, if any user wants to give me free medical advice or make fun of me or commiserate, that'd be cool.

tl;dr: Cut off airway and circulation with a belt and bodyweight, now am concerned about a pinched nerve in my neck.

> inb4 "autoerotic asphyxiation"

Healthcare? what is this socialism.

Find a reason to live and don't take the pussy way out.
Here's a great idea, shit post more faggot.
Ily

My life is a shitpost.

Pay the gooks to massage your neck then get a happy ending

Go to a hospital. Explain to them exactly what happened and don't lie. They have to treat you. Don't worry about money.

Anyway, I'm interested in medical advice, not some fag talking to me about my feelings.

Shit post elsewhere, this isn't /adv/
But I have no sympathy for drunks you bring it upon yourself if you can't handle your drink

+1

I'm worried about them involuntarily committing me though.

This is Sup Forums, faggot. As long as it ain't ponies or pizza, I can post about anything I want.

This is the last place to come for medical advice. And doctors need to x ray your spine, what kind of advice are you expecting?

> What kind of advice are you expecting?

Medical.

I know there are some medfags who lurk here.

Also, for a disk injury it would be a CT scan, not an Xray.

Maybe you should be. Not trying to be insulting. I've done stupid things too and we don't think straight in times like this. Accept help from the proper systems that are in place for us, and don't feel embarrassed about it. Lots of people go through this.

There are kids in third world shit holes that wake up and thank god they're alive. Life to them is a gift, even if it means just surviving another day.
You cry like a bitch behind your computer and even have the cheek to try to end your life.
As long as you've got a roof, food and obviously enough money for electricity, You're an over privileged cunt.
Someone always has it more worse off than you.

Lets say you had insurance, you'd get an MRI to confirm herniation, to which the standard treatment is NSAIDS and waiting. Herniated disc are genereally treated conservatively until motor function is effected, at which point surgery is considered. At this point, try rest and avoiding stress on the neck that triggers the pain/radiating pain/symptoms.

There is a possibility that you might have damaged some nerves, which may heal to some extent on their own. Modern medicine has little to offer at this point.

That being said, you should see a physician if the symptoms get worse/ new symptoms arise. Also, if the pain is on both sides, you might want to consider visiting an ER as you might have a central herniation which might compress the spinal cord. If it is on one side only, you might be able to wait it out with some over the counter anti inflammatory meds.

Even if there are medfags here, you shouldn't trust advice from strangers over the internet. Any real "medfag" is going to tell you to go to see a doctor. And a real doctor not a chiropractor. I'm an EMT, so basically I don't know shit, but maybe that will help you to trust my advice more.

No amount of medical help can stop you from being the humongous faggot you already are

> There are kids in third world shit holes
idgaf

I'm a horrible person. I care about like five people.

> Maybe you should be.

It would fuck over my senior business partner hugely. Like, the business would literally collapse. I would rather die.

I drank too much and let my depression get the best of me.

Right now my priority is the neck. If it is going to get worse then I really have no other choice but if it will get better than I will gut things out for the time being.

Thank you. Please, enjoy some tits.

If motor function ISN'T being affected, should I just take a deep breath and carry on through the soreness? Other than ibprofen and rest, what can I do to lessen the pain?

I'm so sad to hear you tried to do this user. Listen to me. You. Are. Not. A. Failure. Don't get down on yourself user. Even the most successful people ever have failed and they weren't failures when they were having trouble. You're not a failure.

Ok so a few suggestions. Stay away from drinking completely right now because we know it can lead to this situation.

Put the suicide hotline number on speed dial on your phone so you can call them if you ignore this and decide to drink anyway. If you are still feeling suicidal despite being sober then call them as soon as you can.

Don't count out being able to drive back to where you are insured. It may be possible to talk to your boss about this neck injury and get permission to get this checked out. It wouldn't hurt to try.

If you don't want to do that then maybe ask your parents to help cover this emergency visit to the doctors.

Please don't try to kill yourself anymore. If you haven't already you might want to consider seeing a therapist to work through this issues. You may end up having something like I did and need medication to counter these thoughts you are having.

Best of luck to you OP and don't listen to people here who make fun of you or tell you to kill yourself. This is Sup Forums afterall and they'll say that to anybody.

An attempted suicide by hanging is a violent force. Other injuries could have occurred and in any case, it's dangerous to self-diagnose in general. You don't fuck around when it comes to spinal injuries.

Fuck your business partner! The fuck? There's more to life than money and impressing people. And any medical treatment or therapy you receive is confidential.

sauce!?

Well, Ibuprofen 600mg 3x a day is something you can swing without seeing a doctor, better pain control would be prednisone after confirmation of a disk herniation.

I am hesitant to recommend rest, studies don’t show benefit to inactivity. But you should take care not to trigger extra pain/ inflammation.

Your current enemy is imflammation from irritation of nerve roots if it is a herniation.

If it is direct nerve damage, steroids would be helpful, but again, you needs to see a doctor before starting something like that.

Hit up medscape/ pub med, any specific questions can be found there
Look for physical exams for herniated cervical discs, you may be able to find some clues for a diagnosis.

Also, uptpdate is handy.

Also, if you are not acutely suicidal, and have a known trigger, it is unlikely that you will be kept agianst your will at a hospital.

> Any medical treatment or therapy you receive is confidential

I'm in Florida. Any notice I give to a medical professional that I tried to kill myself (which, let's be honest, is pretty fucking debatable) would make me eligible for a seventy-two hour psychiatric hold. It's called the Baker Act and it sucks dick.

> ty

I'll keep those things in mind. I've been down this road before, so I know what is ahead of me with treatment, etc. but I'd rather gut it out and make this business successful before I go back into that jungle.

Of course, I agree 100% with you on the drinking front.

+1

Nice. Again, have some tits for your trouble. And seriously, thank you. This is exactly what I was hoping for in posting this.

Oh wait you have legit depression? Then what in the world are you doing drinking!? Alcohol and depression do not mix at all just read up on what that stuff does to depression You have to stop drinking completely user. Look into programs and strategies that show you how to wean off alcohol use. If you are using it to cope there are way better ways and the drinking just creates more problems.

Do you have any source of income outside of your business? Being committed is worth way more right now than the business in my opinion. Right now you have a drinking problem and you are mishandling your depression and letting it grow strong enough to make you suicidal. It is worth it for you to get help and learn to manage these thoughts properly so you don't end up killing yourself.

If you continue to stay like you are can you honestly tell me you won't be at risk for letting something like this happen again? If you don't get committed and get put on a strong therapy strategy for this you might end up dead before this year is over.

I'm not a doctor or qualified at all so i'm just going to stop here. Its just my opinion. Think hard about what your next move here is going to be and try your best to make things right.

I don't know you user but I love you and i'm sorry you're going through this. Please get help.

They will. Here in florida they put me under the bakers act and I had to stay in a mental facility for 3 day. You can be lost in they system there too and be forced to stay longer. Go to the doctor, say you fell or you were wrestling or you slept wrong. Some random lie.

np, good luck.

concern and worry is a good sign that you are alive

Go to Cuba and become a communist, you should get free medical care there. Also don't go to Sup Forums asking for advice.

OP here.

Autoerotic asphyxiation was what I was literally thinking of telling them.

lol

One final question, if you have the time. Would light exercise like swimming or something like that be helpful (if not for my neck than for my mood)?

I've been putting in 80+ hour weeks and neglecting my fitness, so I think that getting back to some physical activity could be useful as long as it doesn't exacerbate the neck pain.

From my experience getting bakers acted it's fucking awful. The people in that building are there for far more series problems than depression and it can get dangerous. Plus you will literally be forced to take any and all medication they give you. Tvs don't turn on till 5pm lights out 9. Entire day sitting around doing nothing while 1 or 2 doctors manage and treat 15-30 crazy people.

My roommate got jumped by 2 people for not give them his fucking goldfish

The local discomfort is likely due to strains or tears of your neck muscles and ligaments. Usually this area, once injured as in whiplash, can literally take months to heal and longer to heal completely. This is because your head is heavy and requires support by your neck even at night when you are asleep.
Because you are poor or don't have time to take off from you low paying job or what ever your insurmountable hurdles are to decent health care there are several things you can do:

1. try to spend sever hours at night lying on your back. NOT MOVING YOUR HEAD
2. Use a heating pad during these session and in the morning when you first wake up. Place the heating pad around the affected area
3. If you can tolerate aspirin take them once in the morning and before you go to sleep as they will reduce inflammation.
4. Get an inexpensive travel pillow and use it while driving, cooking, sitting up at work if possible etc.

If the symptoms don't clear up or worsen see a health care provider (or a chiropractor at your strip mall) immediately.

Light exercise is fine, swimming is not an issue, but make sure you dont trigger additional pain, I would wait a week or two before resuming that kind of activity.

You are right about making space/time for yourself, i've known people to drop everything they have and move to no where and make cheese or something. Mood is not simple, but doing things you enjoy can ceritanly help.

I am extremely grateful for your advice. One final set of tits for your trouble, then I'll let this thread die.
