ITT: God-tier albums that are at the top of their respective genres that get overlooked because of what their bands later become.

I'll start: Forget what U2 later became, War is easily one of the best post-punk albums ever recorded, easily up there with the best of New Order or The Smiths.

there's so much wrong here i don't know where to start

Yeah. Because there's nothing to say because he's right.

t. Faggot

You're gonna have to give a more reasoned answer than that, brah

Let me guess, you've never actually listened to U2's pre-1990 material.

I think you meant to say pre Joshua Tree material

Yeah that's more accurate. I didn't remember Rattle & Hum came out in the 80s.

What's your pre-1990 power ranking?

Mine is War=Joshua Tree>Unforgettable Fire>Boy>October>Rattle & Hum

Achtung Baby is still their best album, objectively, and it still sounds fresh as hell 20 years later.

And this is coming from someone who fucking LOVES their 80s stuff.

Yeah but their pop stuff is kinda irrelevant when discussing their post punk stuff

Yeah, I know, but I wouldn't exactly call it "pop" either. The Fly and Until The End Of The World don't sound "pop" to me.

>U2
>better than the pop group
>U2
>better than pil

this is what reddit actually believes

the smiths and new order aren't post punk btw they're jangle pop and new wave

why do u people have such an overwhelming need to label everything

>Le U2 is post-punk mimi XD
Stupid fuck
>New Order is post-punk
Maybe Movement, but after that is new wave
>The Smiths is post-punk
contestable

8.5/10 bait

Morrissey is a hack prove me wrong

Not even bait bro

Most of his songs he's just singing words in the same note if his vocals were isolated the songs would be indistinguishable

Contestable but ok.... Listen to the lyrics tho

I liked That joke isn't funny anymore
One of their best songs IMO

U2 were post-punk though

I know this song is pleb as fuck, but it is was my shit around the time my father passed away.

Honestly everything up to Zooropa is pretty good. I'd actually say they peaked from Unforgettable Fire to Zooropa.
