I have yet to find a movie as deep and depressing as requiem for a dream.
I have figured out the movie I seek would probably just be one where the main characters lives just get worse, never better, and then tragedy.
A scanner darkly was pretty good as well so help me out Sup Forumsros with some suggestions.

I guess this is a movie thread as well

Shameless bamp.
Sophies choice wasn't great tbh it was alright

and eraserhead just fucked my shit up

You may like It's Such a Beautiful Day.

Thanks i'll look

Brazil

Try to read "Oyasumi punpun", i'll try to remember a movie

This movie... Too fucking intense
>slightly feels here:
If you want to, this movie called
>the kid
By Charlie Chaplin back in 1920's or so moved me to fucking tears man

If you want to read something read homunculus or ichi the killer.

wtf this trailer

I'm gonna download/rent everything in this thread and eventually watch it all, so any inputs good.

I'll probably watch tonight`

my opinion:
Brazil is overhyped as fuck by nostalgiafags.
>get over it
it was not THAT good at all

Kids.

would you also take anime recommendations ?
>if yes
watch Angel Beats

Dreamlover with James Spader and Madchen Amik

You'll never love again (but her bush is worth the viewing)

Doesn't Marley that dog die? That's just what heard.

Leaving Las Vegas is pretty depressing. Nic Cage is an alcoholic who gets fired and moves to Las Vegas to drink himself to death. Elizabeth Shue is a prostitute who falls for Nic Cage because he's the first guy to be genuinely nice to her. It's not as soul crushing as Requiem for a Dream, but it's in the same league imo.

Requiem fucking sucks, user. Nothing but shamelesss pretentious tripe. The only character I actually felt really bad for and connected with was the mom character. I fucking hate Jared Leto and his character was a piece of shit in this movie. Marlon Wayans and Jennifer Connolly were great, but jared fucking leto rekts it.

If you want a more down to earth and less melodramatic drug movie watch Trainspotting. It's a drug movie and its definitely weird, but it's got a lot of heart where it counts.

And if you want even worse? A Serbian Film. You cannot go wrong with A Serbian Film.

Dancer in the Dark
Synecdoche, NY

love punpun! have read it twice!

It's pretty fucking good depending on who you ask. If you're a fan of Monty Python and Terry Gilliam, you'll like Brasil. Otherwise if you're not, skip it. Gilliam can be rather polarizing, so I don't blame you, user.

gummo

fucked me up

OP here, watched this.
It was good especially the hooker side but fuck nic cage, it was hard

that shit is dark af

>Requiem fucking sucks
I liked it, for the mom character too, not as much for the others especially jared but i enjoyed it.

>Trainspotting
Good movie, but doesn't make me feel bad at the end, because he sorts his shit out kind of.

god tier

thanks

idk

watch Incendies

watch A Clockwork Orange

>Synecdoche NY
Ma nigga

>Synecdoche
This looks pretty good, thanks

seen it thanks, great film

Melancholia is intensely depressing. After that, watch Leaving Las Vegas. I like to watch them back to back on repeat for 24 hours at a time.

That's fair. And if Trainspotting ain't your jam, A Serbian Film will probably work better you. Maybe not make you feel like complete shit but will probably keep you from fapping for a few days. Seriously, dude gets inject with a fucking horse aphrodesiac or some shit. I won't say more than that.

Or you could watch Caligula, but that was practically porn.

Another movie that's depressing and most anons could relate to, Taxi Driver.

OP here, anyone else think Irreversible is a bit overrated?
I don't feel like it's "raw", both times I watched it.

Dancer in the dark

The Piano Teacher (2001)
it's suffocating

Revenant is pretty and pretty depressing.

If any of the movies are too depressing, you can cheer yourself up with Graveyard of the Butterflies. Easily the most uplifting movie I've seen.

Kids fucked me up.

Watch this, OP.

...

MELANCHOLIA

END THREAD

Less Than Zero. Watch a young Robert Downey Junior destroy himself. Can't say it beats Requiem for sheer pathos, but it's a decent contender.

>keep you from fapping for a few days
lawdy no.

I'll try Serbian film than, heard good things about it.
I do like Trainspotting, especially because it seems more real than requiem, but I dont get the shitty, but deep feeling from it.

Also heard of Taxi Driver, forgot about it though thanks user

requiem for a dream is overrated. it's ok as a movie but i personally hate it tbh

nah watch Rick and Morty

Melancholia

> end bred

There is a Phillip Hoffman flick where he huffs gas and wrecks his life. Can't remember the name but it is exactly what you want.

jacob's ladder is always a good go to

I think it changed my life

Jacobs ladder fucked me right up. An honest 10/10

Oh one more,
Jacob's Ladder
Semi horror film with some gnostic enlightenment elements. Don't think a movie gives me as visceral feeling of pain as that bath scene.

Hah timing

The basketball diaries with Leonardo decaprio.

>Lars von Trier

He can be rather hit or miss too. Whatever you do, OP, stay the fuck away from Anti-Christ. It's so boring.

There wasn't really any gnostic enlightenment. The whole movie was just him on an acid trip and having a lengthy (and ultimately meaningless) hallucination as he died.

"I'm not dead.."
"If you're not dead than what are you, Jacob?"

"...I'm alive.."

Fucking living nightmare

I think that's called his real life

The motif of angels and devils being interchangeable is pretty gnostic, no?

The Lobster - it's weird and ends pretty depressing.

This movie sucks, it's not deep. Just pretentious

Trips confirm

>Also heard of Taxi Driver, forgot about it though thanks user
No problem, OP.

Christ, I forgot about Jacob's Ladder.

Also you being reductive about it doesn't make it meaningless. It's a journey of a soul.

You definitely need to watch Apocalypse Now, OP.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind
Closer
Lost in Translation

My personal top 3 of the lost love genre.

Go for american gangster, where you see everybody earnung money, then all go to death... If you think it as giving your life for something that does not worth it, it's depressing, but it's quite exciting to see them succeeding at beginning, before being known

This movie kept me awake for several nights on an existential crisis. It's just flat out intense on a primal level

Bridge to teribithia

schindler's list

I suggest you midori the girl of the camellias. It's a japanese animated short film exactly about what you are asking for: a character wich lifes just get worse and worse.

Green Lantern
Batman v Superman
Fantastic 4

Donnie Darko is what you're looking for.

Synecdoche, NY was a good watch. I agree with this user.

"They were gonna make me a Major for this, and I wasn't even in their fuckin' army anymore."

" I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife, until I said "yes" to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there; when I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle. I'm here a week now... waiting for a mission... getting softer. Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger. Each time I looked around the walls moved in a little tighter."

Goddamn, so fucking good. And to think this movie was a fucking mess during production for Coppola to pull it off. You can feel Martin Sheen's pain (because he did legit cut his hand during shooting of this sequence) and he was drunk as fuck during it too.

I think Scarface is in that camp as well. I haven't seen American Gangster but I know Ridley Scott was behind that and his movies are usually 9/10, but I haven't seen this one. Not OP here, but may check it out. Thanks bro.

want to see a depressing film?

try Ghost World.

>Synecdoche

/thread

Ballad of Orin, fucking devastating, can be hard to find but if you have hulu plus you can stream it. imdb.com/title/tt0076124/

Woman in the Dunes, erotic but crushing, japanese sisyphus, imdb.com/title/tt0058625/

Decalogue, some more than others, 1st episode is particularly brutal en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decalogue_I

i will not lead you astray, watch this shit op

Thank me later, idk I just love it.
gtfo

lol didn;t mean to gtfo you, this is fucking great but i've watched it like 5 times

couple more to add, both by hungarian Bela Tarr

werckmeister harmonies, there is a degree of sinister that pervades this movie, very compelling, best opening scene in the history of cinema imdb.com/title/tt0249241/

Almanac of Fall, revolves around a single house, depression, madness, depravity, settled into a deep funk for a couple days after this imdb.com/title/tt0087855/

We Need to Talk About Kevin is nice and dark

Dear Zachary
Grave of the Fireflies

Watched this and then Full Metal Jacket. Definitely makes Full Metal Jacket look like shit in comparison.

not sure if i should post this or not, but it's too good for people to miss, sorry for the spam, opening scene of werckmeister youtube.com/watch?v=_d5X2t_s9g8

A lot of movies starring Philip Seymour Hoffman is on par with Requiem on the depression scale

>Happiness
>Synecdoche: New York
>The Talented Mr. Ripley
etc.

god damn, forgot about Grave of the Fireflies, fucking savage

one of the most depressing movies ive seen.

>Two thumbs up.

That movie was a revelation of joy. Fuckin Steve Buscemi, one of the ugliest motherfuckers in hollywood, got to bang a decently attractive teenager.

Fat Girl.

remember watching it and was so naïve about the world that i didnt realize something was wrong until she was heading for the airport

Synecdoche, NY made me wanna die for like a month after watching it

The Divide (2011)

Not so deep, but depressing af

I found it to be shallow and pedantic.

can confirm, caught it on TV late one night. was not expecting what i watched

He has AIDS.

Good stuff.

Has anyone mentioned "Of Human Bondage" yet? That's one of my top.

May.
