Why the hell is this considered the best album by The Cure? It's not even top 3. I can't fathom how people say this is a good representation of depression/sadness when Pornography is leagues better.

You want Pornography? Go jerk off. It's considered the best because it has the catchiest rhythms and because each song transitions very well.

I wouldn't say depression so much as recent break-up melodrama. It marked the height of their success along with Porno and Bloodflowers, no? Their style seemed to get poppier after that.

It's the culmination of everything they had going on in the 80's. It takes the gothic aesthetic and sounds of their early work along with pop sensibilities from their mid 80's work. It's also very well done. I would agree that Pornography is their most depressing, but Disintegration just overall showcases all what The Cure has to offer wonderfully.

le ebin Faith and Pornography are better than Disintegration meme

muh dark post punk is good not that ethereal alt rock shit xD

Pornography is great in the forceful parts, but half of it is very soggy musically. It's a step down from Faith, which was more literate and pleasing to the ear, but still gloomy and depressing—there needn't have been compromise.

Disintegration isn't their best album either (that's The Head on the Door), but it's #3 or 4 at worst. Lovesong sucks, but everything else is good, and it somehow doesn't feel overlong. The long jams are fairly captivating. Songs like Fascination Street, Disintegration, have a great pulse. Other songs have a keen sense of yearning.

>LOL THE MOST POPULAR SONG SUCKS loL XD Look HOW HIPSTEr i AM POp Music IS STOOPID

good post except

>Disintegration isn't their best album either (that's The Head on the Door)

what the fuck

head on the door is like their worst 80s album besides the top

>Lovesong sucks
opinion fucking discarded

>leagues better
oh it's you again

Nah, The Head On The Door is pretty good, it's just very Siouxsie like. I wouldn't call it their best though, but it certainly is really great.

Pictures of You is the most popular, isn't it? It should be.

your opinion is shit and will be discarded

i agree that it is pretty good in fact i like it a lot but comparing it with the rest of their 80s output id have to put it below the goth shit and KM3 and disintegration.

disintegration is so obviously their masterpiece it's fucking mind boggling to me that people dont realize this

You're talking to someone who thinks Just Like Heaven is the best pop song of all time. Lovesong is just basic as fuck, and don't get me wrong, I don't hate simplicity, this one's just really boring.

The Head on the Door might not even have a top 3 Cure song on it, but it's their most concise album while still being diverse. It has a great pop song (In Between Days), odd little gems like Six Different Ways and The Blood, trademark gloomy stuff, exotic weirdness, abrasive goth-rock.

It is. I was driving late the other night and I heard 'Pictures of You' on a classic rock station. Kind of threw me off because I wasn't expecting it.

I just don't really like the depressing dark sound of Pornography that much. I like the early more Post-Punk Cure and the Poppy late Cure and i think that Disintegration just mixes both worlds very well. I just really love the ethereal keyboard in the songs and those guitars, everything about it just seems really grandiose and beautiful.

What is The Cure's most underrated song and why is it From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea?

Apart
The Funeral Party
The Blood
Torture
Trust

Okay, I'm with you on Apart and Trust as they are two of my all-time favorites but The Blood is probably the one song on that album that ruins the vibe for me, I'll have to relisten to the other two

>Pornography is leagues better

I agree, but Disintegration is pretty good

Yeah, I can see why no one likes The Blood. I think most people would have to try hard not to reconcile it as a misfit. It's too tongue-in-cheek. I'm betting it's one of the ones Robert didn't write.

The Funeral Party is beautiful. I think this was basically accidental, but it's really cool how they ended up with such a looming, sorrowful major-key song. There aren't many songs like it anywhere.

Nothing amazing about Torture, but it's the kind of song where I think if Pornography was more consistently like that, it could have been a great album.

Bonus cool b-sides: Lament, The Exploding Boy, Breathe, A Chain of Flowers, Snow in Summer, 2 Late

i dunno but One Hundred Years is the best song they ever wrote and better than everything on Disintegration

You guys are kidding yourselves if you really think that the most popular song on the album isn't Plainsong. It was in fucking Antman ffs

This.

It's the pinnacle of their songwriting, musical style and production. It's the quintessential "Cure" album, and it works the best of their albums AS an album, listened start to finish.

The Top is their best, though.
