Something new at last! A lo-fi live recording of a session with a few people, I plan on building proper songs from these sessions and future ones. My favorite track is the first one since I sampled a guitar strum and use my synth to play different chords and notes.

Are you using a vocoder on a guitar? Can't say I've heard that before. The chords and melodies seem pretty uninspired for the most part.

I've got two albums still in writing session, one with my band, one solo. I'm getting pretty excited about both
Nice vocal sample to close with. Pretty good stuff
I wasn't sure about those synths at first but I ended up liking them. I like Dance a lot
Oh man, would love a full album of sic fi alien bedroom folk and weird soundscapes. Great choice of cover art too.
>Oh man, would love a full album of sic fi alien bedroom folk and weird soundscapes.
Well you're in luck, because my solo is shaping up to be like that
>Great choice of cover art too.
I kind of regret using it, because I want to use it for my solo, rather than an impulse release single. I was thinking about switching it and using pic related as the cover for the single, and using the other for the solo, but I don't want to mess anybody who downloaded it up. Maybe I'll just use pic related for the solo instead
Thanks though. Synths are uncharted territory for me
I think the current single art is too nice and simple and atmospheric to pass up, I say switch the covers.
I agree with It's damn good artwork, use it for a project that better reflects it. People who already downloaded probably won't mind, especially if it's just a single. But totally your call.
Definitely most that other stuff here when you release it though, it sounds pretty cool.
I agree, thanks for the input guys
Here's the new cover to anybody who downloaded the single
Also, copy is real nice, especially for arrnging the whole thing in audacity. I use it too and sampling is not something I've delved very deep into at all. I'm still just trying to get my production to sound less thin and hollow, but all I've got is a blue snowball and a guitar amp to run my synth through so it's tough

hey, hows it going. new album "ambedo" comes out November 25th. you can stream some of the singles right now

I like the sound though. The first track did sound a bit thin, but not particularly in a bad way. It reminded me of a lot of the background synth stuff on the first AnCo album, but if you took out the high frequencies. Good stuff.
The second track sounded great though. I personally think you sound a ton better arranging for guitar. I'd love to see something that combines the two, I think they sounds would be good together. I like that with your synth stuff you're actually developing your own sound rather than just playing shit that sounds like the generic synth sounds or presets. You can tell you put thought into it, which I always enjoy.
I can relate on lacking gear. It's tough, but you'll always find some way to record. There's always a possibility of making it sound great.
For my current project I'm trying to get this kind of lofi bedroom new wave kind of vibe that incorporates some good bass and guitar stuff with cheap sounding synths. But I'm trying to do it in a way that doesn't make me sound like shit. Something that doesn't make me sound like a 12 year old kid who just pirated FL Studio and dicked around with the synths for 5 minutes.
Any tips on how to achieve this?
Yeah, I'm way more familiar with guitars than I am with the synth. I just got my first one in July in this project is the first real thing I've done with it. Also, the project I'm doing with the band is a fully acoustic thing with 3 guitars, so I guess my arrangement skills are being put to the test with that
This is really cool, I was pretty vested in Fresh Pots, that a good track
The difference between vintage sounding synths and lame soundcloud-tier FL synths is easily heard
Just listen to some New Wave and really listen to the synths and try to make out how they were programmed and utilized, that's how I learned to program stuff the way I wanted it to be.
Although, there can be something endearing about cheap sounding synths. Like Panda Bears debut. Although the saving grace of that album's electronic tracks is that they have really cool compositions. Like the first Untitled track. That's a really cool song
Anyways, if you're wanting to have that new wave vibe, I just suggest you get really familiar with New Wave synths, and you'll probably hear the difference between them, and boring/corny synths
how dare you say that when your own music is garbage. Eric, you're trash.
>The difference between vintage sounding synths and lame soundcloud-tier FL synths is easily heard
So I totally understand what you're saying here. I actually do a lot of fucking around with synths and ironically know how to make some pretty good new wave sounding synths. But I'm trying to kind of delve into sounding like shit a bit for this. I want this to sound like people fucking around with cheap gear in a basement or something, but in a very real sounding way. So like corny synths, but not boring by any means. That's what I'm aiming for, and I feel like I'm walking a fine line. I was recording last night and getting fairly frustrated about it. It's an odd project for me, especially when I'm used to recording cleaner and polished stuff.
My current idea is play it all live using real gear (no computers), recording to cassette tape then touch it up later. We'll see.
I was just wondering if anyone has every done anything similar and if they had any tips on how they achieved their sound.

Thoroughly digging this. Vocal delivery is cozy and the drums vibe. Beachboys-y harmonies were really pretty.
listening to elephant seal and in love. The acoustic arrangements are really tasteful and i can hear a little Microphones/Sung Tongs. I feel like the vocals could have a little more energy on Green but they definitely have a unique feel.
I suppose having a strong melody and arrangement of the synths could help shine the deliberate corniness in a more favorable light. But yeah, I wouldn't really know how to handle that either
Have you ever listened to Roberto Cacciaplaglia's New Wave/Synth Pop stuff. If not, It might be able to help you out with the sound you're looking for. Listen to the Ann Steel Album if you haven't already

Focus on the tones, textures and soundscapes
Noise is the music equivalent of an abstract painting. Harsh noise is basically something like pic related.
At least this is what noise means to me. Some people just want to listen to the edgiest shit possible but I prefer the fine art approach.

I agree it's underrated. Good good stuff. I also agree on adding some thought the design of your page. It's not eye cancer worthy, and I don't think it'll turn people away in it's current state, but adding some design or flair to your page gives you some professionality and character. Helps it stand out a little more and look more established.

want people looking for your stuff? first you listen theirs. god, you guys want everything for granted right?
you mean... better than my laptop mic?!
no, but in a very similar type of thread I have listened to, recced, and given feedback with little to no feedback back towards me. I want my time to not be wasted for no reason, do you want your time wasted?
This is my first time in a bandcamp thread, sorry if things here don't work like they do in SC threads, because quite frankly they look to work the exact same.
Usually bandcamp threads participate more than soundcloud threads. Soundcloud threads are usually full of people dumping their shit and leaving with only a few people actually caring to listen. I'm not saying bandcamp threads have a ton of people participating though, there still is a ton of that. But usually there is more interaction going on in these.
Needless to say people are more willing to listen to your stuff in these threads if you listen to theirs and give some genuine thoughtful comments on it. Obviously there is still times where no one will listen to your shit, but I've found better results when participating.
its so obvious some of don't even like their own music why do I have to listen to it
recs
Sorry I haven't been participating as much, I'm on vacation right now. Love y'all.
they do work pretty similarly to SC but here there's not as much creators and people tend to participate more. i'd tell you the same thing everyone says: "if you listen to others and give them thoughtful comments your music will be heard". it works most of the time, but put some effort into it. don't just say 'it's good, i liked the textures' be a little more articulate.
