Thanks so much for listening and downloading folks. New stuff 12/1.
I hadn't seen what you meant so I looked up Scrugley's FB page. I love Scrugley and his music, but when artists do this it makes me sad and a little mad. I sincerely understand the self doubt that comes with making music, but there's no reason to make a show of it by announcing that you're quitting. There have been a few Bandcamp artists that did this and every one has come back in some form or another. If you don't want to make music anymore, then just stop advertising/posting about it rather than saying you're "quitting" - because 9/10 times, the feeling passes, and you'll be making music again.
I mean seriously, your average big name artist these days puts out only one release every 2-3 years, and people on here seem to put something out every couple of months. There's really no reason to make a public knee jerk reaction like that.

here it is since some people don't wait for bandcamp threads to die before posting a new one
> here
>Well guys, its been a hell of a ride but today 11/10/2016 I'm officially done with making "music".
>Thanks for the people that supported (and hated) me, but its time to move on, I'm just not good enough to put out something worthy.
>My bandcamp page will remain alive only for a few more months, so take a last listen because it may be the last one. Again, thanks.
>PS: Sometimes you have to be honest with yourself ya know? :/
>I'll still check and buy stuff from these threads regularly tho :)
as much as i like scrugley, i have to agree. i have gone weeks and sometimes months completely devoid of musical ideas, but i never thought about quitting, because i knew that, sometime soon, all of those ideas would start flowing again and i'd find the fun and love in making music again.
i honestly think that small bandcamp artists like everyone on here, instead of just quitting (unless you are 100% certain and have serious reasons to never make music again) just say you're gonna take an indefinite break from making music instead of quitting. like you said, most of the time the feeling passes, and these people end up back on these threads making music.
as far as I know scrugley, he never enjoyed making music.
Isolation can really fuck up people I guess, he sold all his equipment like 2 weeks ago btw.
Do we know that he is completely isolated? I always thought he seemed very self-deprecatory, "songs from an untalented parasite" and all that
That's odd, isolation made me make music
It happened! :3

> depressed degenerate punk
i don't think he's completely isolated, he makes reference to people around him
>
>3. People around me thinks is a huge waste of time, and I should focus on real things (wich is true).
but maybe he is, i don't know much about his personal life. he never really shared it desu. he does have a lot of self deprecation, which doesn't help either.
this, been there and that's part of why i make music, to kill off the time i spend isolated that i don't spend listening to jazz and primitivism or watching films. isolation affects people differently i guess.
I believe he's a very unhappy dude, hope he stays clean.
But lets be honest, we all prefer a self-deprecatory down to earth guy than a massive ego jerk.
Things affect people differently I guess.
love these! great thread!
Very true, although some self-deprecatory people are just as solipsistic as narcissists.
coltoncox.bandcamp.com
>primitivism, folk, experimental, rock
I see much potential from you.
Listen to Lee Hazelwood, Joe Meek, Van Dyke Parks, and Steely Dan for further influence if you haven't done so.
>But lets be honest, we all prefer a self-deprecatory down to earth guy than a massive ego jerk.
agreed
this would be a nicer album cover if it were better made. i noticed it was a copy of 'sleep and his half brother death'. frankly, i'm not a fan of the original painting, but if you put actual effort into it (or got someone who's good at making art) then i could see your darker looking adaptation of it looking fantastic.
listened to lethe serenade, i wouldn't exactly call it primitivism, it certainly doesn't feel much like it, or your style is influenced by another genre, or maybe you just improvised it, sounds a little like it. the glitchy additions are interesting, but i don't know if i like them. the way you cut up the guitar at one part really bothered me, but i think you might be getting at something here.
i didn't want to give up on something that claimed to be primitivism because i yearn for more of this stuff, me having a decent knowledge of the genre. i decided to hear Book of Ivory and Horn Abuade [yes i picked them bc of the length im lazy lol] and i see where your style of primitivism is coming from. it's not influenced by the blues, or classical music, or hindustani classical like most of the highly regarded primitivists, i see it coming more from a folk/rock and experimental side, which fits pretty well since the rest of your album is firmly based on those genres as well.
i'm going to download your album and listen to it tomorrow, i have really high expectations from you since i really enjoyed the three tracks i listened to. hopefully you get involved in the threads instead of just posting and leaving so that you can get more recognition.
>It happened! :3
>album came out two months ago
perhaps you're a little late
ok im now only gonna give feedback to those who also give it. also i want to show off my new haino pics
recommended
oh, i ment the album came out two months ago but the thing that Happened only just happened Tuesday.
it's aright bae :3
I was initially not much of a fan of the original painting, but it has grown on me. I think the room in the painting looks cool. My copy of it It is poorly made because I am an unskilled visual artist, but I think the music is poorly made too, especially the production, so I think it is suitable. In other words, like the music, I think the big picture is cool even if the details are pretty bad.
Lethe Serenade is semi-improvised. The glitchy bits are not intentional and an unfortunate result of my mic. The recording was too good not to use it though. Not sure which part you're referring to as being cut up, but there's some terrible editing of the dynamics I made throughout to combat spikes.
I don't really think of primitivism as a genre, more like a way of making things. I am a fan of the American Primitivists though, if that's what you're referring to by your understanding of primitivism.
Thanks a lot for the feedback. Will check out some of the other guys in the threads. I used to participate in these threads a lot in 2014. Keiji Haino is a cool guy.
Thanks! Never heard of Lee Hazelwood, fan of Van Dyke Parks, big fan of Joe Meek, neutral about Steely Dan but I'll listen to them and the Hazelwood guy more

>My copy of it It is poorly made because I am an unskilled visual artist, but I think the music is poorly made too, especially the production, so I think it is suitable.
i guess so, gives you an idea of what to expect, but i think good visuals lead to more people being interested in your music.
>Lethe Serenade is semi-improvised. The glitchy bits are not intentional and an unfortunate result of my mic.
i knew it! sad about the mic though, that take sounded really good.
>I don't really think of primitivism as a genre, more like a way of making things
interesting! i've never really thought about it that way, but i think you have a point. it really gave me a new perspective to look at one of my favorite genres from.

Just released this yesterday. This is kind of my tribute to 90s house singles and the music I grew up listening to as a kid. Tried to blend that era into my sound and sort of give it a vibe like youre listening to a setlist. Let me know what you think.
>eichinschmeichin.bandcamp.com
Checked out Music Box, gives me a sort of early ariel pink vibe. I also like all the little diversions you take. I'd say my biggest problem would be that i think a lot of the ideas i really loved in this were the shorter songs (like shorter than 30 seconds) and I wish they developed a bit more cause you have very good textural ideas. Gonna check out more by you.
>etceterabanda.bandcamp.com
Listened to if/else. I like it, I think the glitchier elements you're adding are cool. I also like that there is like a journey to the song, like it does not stay in place musically.

Hi guys
Is this supposed to be like PC music? It's pretty in-your-face.
For fuck's sake, it's a BC thread. Make an album, or upload your stuff here too. You're actually talented, just like the producers you're working with, but if you have only one song on BC I can't say much about you.

>I mean seriously, your average big name artist these days puts out only one release every 2-3 years, and people on here seem to put something out every couple of months
That's because when you're hurting for any attention at all, you gotta hustle and keep trying to please an audience somehow. New stuff new stuff new stuff!
MOAR MOAR MOAR
Or as you might say, toil toil toil
Anyway, the vocals in your thing are great.
It reminds me of the newest Sufjan album tho, in both a "this is pleasant" way and a "this is kind of derivative" way.
Still tho, this is a really solid production. It sounds like all these songs were practiced and intentional.
My other note, being a critical asshole, is that your songs don't give me enough soon enough. Absolutely none of your lyrics are sticking with me and for the most part, I have to do work to interpret them or find meaning. If I want to do the work to find the art in something, I'll make my own art. When I look at other people's art, I wanna be given something and be inspired, y'know?
And uh, here's me. Please be a dick too. I am hurting for any attention at all for my music.

kind of glad that I changed my mind now
Keep in mind you can always make music with other artists. I kind of miss collab albums between Sup Forums artists
sounds neat.
yeah, a lot of collabs I tried to do fell through though (mostly the other artist being inactive or being busy, little disclaimer that these all were not close to being recently, just saying so)
Yeah, I contacted Epiglottis on a collab once and the next day he said he ceased to make music.
Whatever made him stop, it came suddenly.
I never understand that when things like that happen
Of course, maybe I've had creative differences or something along the lines of that, but I'll never understand the willingness to just cease activity
well Epiglottis stopped because he had no more creativity left. scrugley quitted because drugs and by the fact that he never enjoyed making music. asteria quitted because his gf told him to stop.
people is just like that, pussies.
