Pretty much anything by Max Roach. He's insane.
Braids - Flourish // Perish. The drumming is subtle on the album. Live though, it's incredible. It's hard to really do them justice, and you probably won't believe me, but the drummer is this band is so talented & classically trained. I've seen them live 3 times and he always leaves a lasting impression on everyone.
This. Boxer has one of the most unique drum sounds in the history of rock
the who - whos next
tool - 10,000 days
the mars volta - the bedlam in goliath (holy shit, "goliath" is the final level of drumming)
For braids, here's a good entry point.

Anything with Zach Hill on it
I love Ride but how is the drumming godlike?
Seen them live twice and god DAMN is he a good drummer
fucking commands the stage
...
Got to talk to him after a show a few years back. I asked him how he has such good with his left hand. He said you can't get tricky with dynamics until you've learned to do it all at the same volume first
...
Reni is one of the most fluid drummers I've ever seen
watching him play is mesmerizing
Animals as Leaders:
The Joy of Motion
The Madness of Many
Garstka is a beast
what about Moloko?

Pete Thomas
Tago Mago is greatest drumming album.
Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree has fantastic drumming. Gavin Harrison's a beast.
good pick
great live album
Oh cool. Actually, I'm pretty sure his dad is the percussionist for some orchestra in Calgary. Makes sense that he's so in tune with his technique.
especially admirable to me knowing he was mostly just using a three piece kit
the things you can do with a snare =]

Primus is objectively shit
Any Tool album.
no.
Primus objectively sucks
best drumming I've ever heard from a post-hardcore album
...
...
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Shit is fucking insane
The drums on that sound better than anything in modern metal imo. One of my all time favourites.
Best Zach Hill
All of his albums but especially this
Really? Nobody has posted this yet?
>Steve Gadd is my lord and savior
where do I start if I want to get into The National? just Boxer or?
Boxer, High Violet, s/t, Trouble Will Find Me
Doesn't really matter. All their albums sound about the same.
Hate it as much as you want
Thomas Pridgen is a monster
These.
Silent Alarm is the most fun album I've ever heard drum wise. Also I feel like people forget that John Stanier, the drummer for Battles, is also the drummer for Helmet. So all of the Battles fans ITT should check them out.
Pic related is my choice
this is trash
Completely true
Gadd Almighty only plays on the title track.
The rest of the drumming on the album is amazing but safer than what Gadd does.
Their drummer pretty much carries them
...
I know, but when you listen to the end of Aja (track) there is nothing but eargasm coming from the speakers. It gives me chills.
...
I agree
I wish that part lasted much longer
Wayne Shorter's solo is heavenly as well
Hummer
Its just the sound
...
...
Yeah drummers great live
...
>not deloused
Thomas Pridgen didn't join until Bedlam
As far as Mars Volta goes, Deloused still has the best rhythm section overall
...
And is the best Mars Volta album overall also, fuck the mega plebs who disagree
...
I'm not saying Bedlam is better.
I am saying that Thomas Pridgen is an excellent drummer, and it shows on that album
how has no one mentioned this?
perfect drumming which doesnt attempt to overpower or show off
I think the drumming in s/t is way better but Abe is a god anyways.
