because the way we move our eyes around, looks weird, throws people off.
Source: semi-blindfag, lost nearly 70 percent of my vision.
One of the things I've had to get used to was the way I have to dart my focus around to see stuff, people see this and idk, it throws them off. With sunglasses they cannot see what my eyes are doing, so I stop worrying about it.
It's more for me than it is for them. Same with a cane I use when i go anywhere that there is going to be a lot of people. I do not necessarily need the cane, (can detect colours, shapes etc), but if I have it people will know I cannot see well and it has prevented several collisions.
