hey man you from manchester?
im at the uni!!
Yes. I was at the uni. I've since left to face the cold, hard world of post-higher educational employment. Hope you dig the tunes x
oh shit man good luck hope the degree pays off
im staying in fallowfield tower
recorded all the vocals on my most resent release in plattfields park if you know it
i really want to meet some musicians/get in on some local music
do you have any tips?
like any good open mics i could go to?
i honestly havent met a single musician yet
this is good
genuinely enjoyed your rapping you have talent
You should start hanging out at places like Night & Day Cafe, Piccadilly Records and The Castle Hotel on Oldham Street, in the Northern Quarter. You'll meet lots of other musicians that way and get to find out about open mics, etc. My first open mic was at Night and Day Cafe on a Monday night a few years back. I had the pleasure of playing for a small gathering of punters, including:Guy Garvey (Elbow). The bar staff at these places are the people who can often tip you off on artists to check out and people you should meet. It's very communal that way. You might even get lucky with a few of them... I did! Also check out The Temple of Convenience and Big Hands, on Oxford Road. You'll be surprised who you'll bump into there...
Also spend some time in Chorlton. I lived there for a while. Again, plenty going on in the bars and cafes. Loads of fellow musicians and gigs/open mic nights. Hop on the 85 or the 86 bus from town and you'll be there in no time at all.
Bands you should check out from Manchester: I See Angels. Purple Heart Parade... And a band from down the road, in Liverpool, called Seawitches.
Get out and about and meet people. There's so much happening in Manchester. It's a great city to live in if you're a creative type. I have to dash now. I hope this has helped. Good luck with everything x

Excellent guitar-ambient textures (Fripp, Belew, The Edge) and Low-esque minimalist synths.
Really raccomended.

A simple but effective and well built slow-core / post-rock track.
Rock on !
>morsel-music.bandcamp.com
I like your overall sound. The kind of melodies you play on your guitar and the tone of your voice are nice. I think your songs are a little empty/impenetrable. The words don't catch my attention and I get no sense of narrative. Where your choruses at? Why don't you use your intro lines to make me pay attention to the rest?
You really nail the aesthetic of like a synthpop soundtrack. I think it's going to work great for the movie or really any movie.
>justeverywhere.bandcamp.com
"Dream pop" made me think of something else. That was like some experimental instrumental music. I feel like "pop" is gonna have some lyrics, maybe a little sing-along-ability even if it's just a little.
Anyway, here's me.

> lyrics that try to get and keep your attention

I'm in desperate need of critique and feedback. I have friends and family to tell me this is great. I need Sup Forums people to tell me which parts actually suck. Thanks!
>lucasmaino.bandcamp.com
You're right. This is cute stuff. It's like almost a soundtrack to an anime. It's kind of cinematic and kind of jammy but all very nicely played.
It's not the kind of music I normally listen to. I like stuff with lyrics that I can relate to so I can't promise I'll listen to it again. Still, I'm letting the album ride out this time cuz it's not bad.
I feel a little misled by your synth-pop tag. Yes it's poppy and has synths but it really lacks the coldness I'd say characterizes synthpop. Synthpop is like robot music. Your stuff is funky and warm.
John Foxx is someone I'd say is archetypically synthpop.

Just in case you needed to see a British guy yelling science fiction over a minimal beat.
Really alright stuff!

Nevermind. There was a really synthpop track in there. Not misled afterall!
You sure sound like Joy Division.
I kinda hate shoegaze because I feel it almost all sounds the same and your music sounds like that. It sounds like stuff my shoegaze friends listen to. It sounds exactly like it!
Still tho, subjective dislike of your genre aside. You did a great job creating a full sounding and fully realized record in your room and mastering it yourself.

Hey man thanks so much for all of this
I'd never heard of most of these places
I've screen shotted everything you said for future reference
Seriously thanks so much hopefully I'll be getting involved soon
Thanks for listening
I agree that lyrics are something I really need to work on
I have ideas and visions for what I want the music to be but no ideas for lyrics
I end up just singing out random stuff
I guess I need to realise that I'm not getting away with it
The reason there's no narrative as everything I've done so far is just compilations. It is defiantly something I'm aiming to do in future releases
Sorry I can't listen to anyone's stuff right now will be back another time

i wasnt expecting anything good, you fucked yourself over on the whole "selling yourself" part
i listened to the first 2 songs and liked them
despite the bedroom aesthetic, the mix/master leaves a lot to be desired. but the song is passable and pleasant. i enjoyed the melody at the end
dont worry about it. just release it. if people hate it, then at least they're paying attention to you, and getting attention is something most of us struggle with.
also, i thought "Loss" was well done. if i was into sampling other peoples music, i'd have no problem slapping a chorus on some of those tones and making new melodies.

Fuck off
just wondering how you come up w vocal melodies
i dont really have a method. I listened to a lot of Strokes and stuff when i was 14. I listened to a lot of Lou Reed later on and i basically copy them sometimes. I dont know much theory but I also sing a regular tune then double track with harmonies or dip in and out of harmonies as I sing. thats about it, not a lot of thought on my end.
thank you for listening btw :~)

i sang into a sm58 beta with a pop filter over it. I usually compress then add reverb and cut off some of the ends on the EQ to get a slight telephone kinda sound. very rarely do i distort (like on the end of brainchild) or add chorus or anything.

yeah i kinda feared we'd get a response like that. what can he do to improve the vocals? is it a lost cause?
honestly, just experiment. record him and have him listen to just himself acapella. if he can't find anything that he wants to improve or change, then yes he is a lost cause. and keep pushing. like literally, keep pushing until it hurts and his throat is sore. project from the diaphragm. and make sure theres some hot herbal non-caffenated tea with honey on standby, too.
