if you want some "classic" mexican music
>Vicente Fernandez
>Juan Gabriel

something more modern/pop/rock, at the top of my head
>Cafe Tacuva
>Maldita Vecindad
>Enanitos Verdes (not mexican but good)
>El Tri (classic mexican rock)
>Julieta Venegas (female pop artist)
>Gloria Trevi (female rock artist from the 90s)
>Plastilina Mosh (pop)

theres way more out there, im very out of the loop

Stay away from Moemia, only 1 good song from them and that's it.Hope this helps.

Mexico is a remarkably lacklustre country musically speaking if one takes into account its size, population and proximity to US.

I can't believe I forgot to mention the all time band that is a mexican national treasure!
Go check out Mana. They're the best.

youtube.com/watch?v=DcnNeGQHwDc

I swear you will hear this song at every mexican celebration.

>source: I'm a white bean. (white on the outside, bean on the inside)

Disagree

There is great music and musicians, fuck, even Mariachi is considered intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.

There was a huge shitstorm when Juan Gabriel died.

There's also a growing indie scene.

You seem quite ignorant user.

youtube.com/watch?v=z7vANMggH9I

Enjambre, Porter, Siddhartha, Zoe are the most popular indie bands

t. trump supporter

naafi

A Love Electric is pretty good (especially live, goddamn, live they sound like the love child of jazz and The Jesus Lizard)

they do have an american singer and writer, but they are a mexican band

youtube.com/watch?v=U1SiveWVIIo

Any recs on their indie scene? There's a paucity of latin-influenced indie out there.

Fonoteca INAH has tons of Mexican Folk music field recordings, some of them pretty good.

youtube.com/watch?v=R5B6Xv9Ahr0

youtube.com/watch?v=sL3NVu-1eKg

For classic stuff
>Oscar Chavez
>El Viejo Paulino
>Pedro Infante
>Tania Libertad

The hip hop scene is also pretty good
>Cartel de Santa
>El Pinche Brujo
>Gamberroz
>SkillaMen
>Alto Consumo
>Psycho Realm

Also, Los Razos mix some mariachi with hip-hop, they co-worked with Psycho Realm

I really like this one:

youtube.com/watch?v=Qhc-Md5Zfs8

Porter, Los Plastics Revolution, Simona.
Our folk music is amazing, if you can get a good recording mariachi music I recommend it a lot.
For more contemporary classical look at Silvestre Revueltas, Julian Carrillo, carlos chavez.

For classical music, Huapango de Moncayo is one of the greatest mexicans songs i've ever heard. It makes me a happy man.

I am Mexican and Mana is complete and utter shit. I fucking hate them.

t. chairo

he's right tho mana is really bad

Well, i don't really like them much too but they're quite popular and successful.

Im mexican and really there isnt a very good indie scenery, all the indie bands are either concentrated in posthardcore or surf rock in here. If I had to rec something I would say early Zoe,Siddharta or The Plastics Revolution.
Fun fact:Neon Indian is from Monterrey

Macross is Mexican and he is God tier Vaporwave kino

youtube.com/watch?v=4BSJAAo1uNY

Chairos love mana though you dummie

they used to be ok, but now they're a joke of themselves

Does The Mars Volta count?

>People recommending Maná and Zoe

Stay away from those bands. One is a goofy pop-rock bands that takes themselves too seriously and the other is watered-down electro indie pop for teenage girls.

I think Wet Baes and CLUBZ are pretty good, too bad either only have a few songs.

Cenotaph and Mortuary

How come no one has mentioned Molotov? Caifanes? El Haragán Y Compañía?

no one is as smart as all of us.

I think the most iconic band of Mexico is Molotov.

Sure you walk across the street and listen to some mexican rap or banda (basically mexican polka), but nothing, in my mind, represents mexican music in the 21st century more than molotov

not to mention just how relevant their music is that speaks to today's politics.

mana's vocalist seriosly sucks shit, you cares about their popularity?. I mena, Arjona is a pretty popular guy too

If you want some folk. I recommend a Trío band called Los Tres Reyes. Their guitar work is phenomenal.

this is what I have at the moment, but I am also looking for good indie music from Mexico. What this user lists is just generic pop rock music . Mana used to be good but is now generic rock. In Mexico, it's typical to always hear the same songs covered by younger artists and have it be a guaranteed hit. Many artists stay popular for decades with few new artists coming out.

Mana are similar to the red hot chili peppers in that they were good in the late 90s early 00s but are now hot garbage.

>similar to the red hot chilli peppers
An apt comparison, i'd say
>I know I know for sure
Ding dang dong dong ding dang dong dong ding dang
I know I know its you
Ding dang dong dong ding dang dong dong ding dang

Austin TV is nice

it's all shit. believe me.
