Listen to Surfa Rosa and Come On Pilgrim, my favourite Pixies album(s)

Nirvana dude, shits pretty great. Kurt was basically a god

Bump. 'Hey' is one of my favorite songs.

breeders

and violent femmes

This is a good rec. Breeders are about as close to Pixies as you get.

Yes!

Try some Cardiacs. They similarly crazy punk/rock/indie, but with an extra edge of deranged nursery rhyme/circus act.

Meat Puppets ll

Obviously The Breeders/Amps and Frank Black, more generally speaking Sonic Youth, Alice in chains, the 90's grunge acts, Brit Indie, classic Punk and Garage, Surf, folksie bands like Mazzy Star or Meat Puppets, pretty much everything released by Sub Pop at the time, etc. Good music was to be had in spades in the 90's although as good as Pixies is fucking high standard. Closest after the era would be some bands like the Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes or the White Stripes, there's a lot of good stuff coming out of Edinburgh early past decade and some bands surviving until just a few years ago...

Holy fucking Irvine Welsh
