What do you think about Pokémon?

What do you think about Pokémon?

I like it!

It's my life.

Thats pretty good

Nothing but a Japanese marketing strategy. Bought the first 150 first ones caught on and don't support the Nazi propoganda any more.

It's for children you loser

Good idea slowly milked to death

Hate it all you want it's gonna last a lifetime on a cult following if it ever dies off of mainstream

I think you missed the point. It was to milk the shit out of it from the get go.

The first Pokemon I ever played is Y for the 3DS. It was OK but why don't they at least give you hints or whatever about what type and attack is best for certain types? Maybe I missed it but if as a new player I would have enjoyed the game a lot more knowing this crucial info...

True, I am a 'cult follower' of the franchise myself. I buy every game that is ever released, and still will buy whatever they will release. (I'm not into the TCG and merchandise, maybe except for a few stuffed toys of my favourite pokes).

However, I will say this. If Disney ever buys out Pokémon, that's when I'll jump off the ship because that's when Pokémon will really die.

I'm 32 btw and missed the whole pokemon craze when it first came to US... gave it a fair shot when I bought a 3DS. If anyone can't point me to a good tutorial I'd like to try it again

Oh, Idhubz you a meme

They're all the same shit with different names and some other shit thrown in every now and again.
Got old real quick.

I would pet pokemon

>forgetting the "hey"

It's pretty good for casual play.

The NPCs in the game and some of the info tabs give you this over time, those things only really matter in PvP situations though since the game is a cakewalk.

If you really want to get into min maxing and that sort of thing look into Smogon and their community, they have all sorts of reasoning and number crunching over what's best with what.

...

i still have all my games from my childhood (emerald is my fav), all with their original save files. i got myself a pretty sick collection of pokemon and i dont want to lose them...its actually pretty sad

i have always been tempted to buy a new Nintendo DS or whatever and get back into the series, but is it really worth it?

>not realizing people from Disney have been major investors for years.

They used to show pokemon on DisneyXD

Kys

This

I've played all games since the original, most of them on the corresponding gameboy. I lost my excitment everytime since Gold/Silver

They just add about 100 hundred monsters with no concern at all on how cool they look, if they are useful, and the fucking story never, ever changes. I'm so sick of getting 8 badges and facing a league that I usually just rush through the games, I don't even know why anymore

> Charles Darwin meets cockfighting, what's not to like?
But after the end game fell off what's the point of playing it now?

>/vp/

Most, /most/, of the type match ups make sense if you think about it.
Some of them are way out of left field though.
Bug is strong against Dark? Ground good against Steel?

I'm stuck in that mountain area and none of my Pokemon seem to do much damage and always die

>Malaria is fucking up Africa

>Earthquakes vs buildings?

i like it before it became a meme
now it just seems like a depressing reminder of a less faggy time

It has good porn

>i like it before it became a meme
I'm not sure what you mean by that because it was most popular when it first came out.

...

...

is this from a movie or the show?

Not sure, might even be a promo or a trailer.

...

The games are fun, but the show has been shit for a long time. Are pokemon cards still a thing?

Apparently the XY season is pretty good. But that's just what I hear.
Cards are still a thing.

Thats a decent team, user. Here are mine.

any pokemon past mew is a fucked up mess.
any pokemon past celebi is an utter abomination.

Thanks, but what I don't get is that even if I memorized all the advantages/disadvantages of each type, I would then need to memorize which Pokemon are which type?? Is that the case or am I doing something wrong? Can you not see what type they are in battle?

>I would then need to memorize which Pokemon are which type?
Uhh pretty much yeah.

>Can you not see what type they are in battle?
You can see which type yours are

I dedicated a lot of my life to blastoise 18 years ago.

I think this is where the series suffers. I would like t get into it but at this point there is WAY too much to cover. I mean at least give me access to the Pokedex so if I took the time to catalog them before I would know some shit. Of course I know about my own team but that doesn't mean much when I don't know the enemy...

I'm fucking obsessed with the whole franchise. Anime, video games, cards, etc..

I mostly keep it low key, but the more people prod me about it the more they see how deep into the rabbit hole I am.

Got that shiny living dex completed yet?

Red and Blue were two of the best games ever made.

Gen 3 is the best faggot swampert shits on blastoise

that is a far cry from the truth.

what the fuck is a swampert. your pokemon are newage and stupid. your insult is void and your logic is smeared with false prophecy.

Even counting all the side games, Red and Blue are among the worst in the franchise.

Swampert is nearly 14 years old at this point grampa.

All Pokemon with number > 151 are unoriginal and a sad attempt to stay relevant.

>swampert
>newage
try again faggot

And your posting is a sad attempt to cling to nostalgia.

Help an oldfag get into the series...
Trying here, but just can't so far. Maybe I should go back to previous gen? First impression was Y for 3DS. Seems like learning curve at this point is too much to memorize and Googling every enemy I came across is not fun

How many autists are gonna get sunburn from Pokemon go?

What are you doing here, Danny Devito?

Play Pokemon Fire Red. It's a remake of Pokemon Red (Gen 1) on the Gen 3 (Pokemon Emerald) engine. Great game. Gold and Silver after it were not as good. Can't really remember Emerald, but didn't play anything after GBA.

Pokémon Sun and Moon are going to apparently let you see how effective a move is against a Pokémon in battle. There are also other QoL changes as well, such as letting you easily see how stats have changed through the battle and giving you audio and visual cues when approaching a trainer.

its not clinging onto the originals as much as it is hating the oddball new ones. listen gengar, we understand making more is inevitable. we also think they all suck and are simply content with it. its not nostalgia, it is choosing the real pokemon.

Shoe was very tempting.

I still collect the cards. Any other pokecardfags in here?

Pokemon is fine, but the show is a terrible.

The manga was always better.

Zelda fag

...

It's a way for Nintendo to sell their new handhelds when every other game they put out is shit.

Go play Gen 5 (Pokemon Black and White, Black 2 and White 2) to get that tutorial.

shitty meme game that was fun when i was 5 but has since become beyond awful and its fans are massive autists

K thanks

still havent watched or played anything new since the gameboy trading card game came out. my memory and impression is still unflawed, it will remain as such.

My favorite series is Zelda, what's wrong with loving what you love? Bioshock series may be second

i'm 47 and still play nearly every day. to satisfy the rest of your curiosity about how much a loser i am, i have no friends (only my cat is my friend), haven't had sex in 13 years, and i'm fat and ugly and stupid, and i have over 1000 hours logged on my x, y, or, and as. i plan to kill myself soon. also my favorite pokemon is latias

Sent from my Android phone

Generation V is my favorite. The region is great, the content amount is great in at least the sequels, the aesthetics are great, the story is a bit more interesting than usual, and I even like most of the new Pokémon despite popular opinion.

>also my favorite pokemon is latias
You may be a failure of a person but at least you have some taste.

Hey, you need to think less. These games are primarily designed for children, so theres no need to google every pokemon you come up against, the difficulty isn't there. There's no punishment for having every pokemon on your party faint, so you're free to try whatever.
The more you play, the more familiar you will become with move and pokemon names, and the type system.

It's surprisingly tough to explain a set of rules that have been ingrained into my being since I was young.

Man, might as well stick a breathing tube in me and have the game play itself.

thanks. i have some cool latias stuff i've gotten from my trips to pokemon centers in japan. i've visited most of them.

So tell me what should I play?

I'm a fan, looking forward to Pokemon Go! and Pokemon Sun/Moon

I'm a fan of the concept. The implementation, not so much.

i'd say wait for sun and moon, but if you're dying to get in now then just get oras. when the newest comes out you find you just forget about the older ones because everyone is talking about and playing the latest and greatest. if you play oras you'll be up to speed on the latest battle mechanics, breeding, meta

Sent from my Android phone

Love it.
Can't wait for Sun & Moon, man.

I personally can't remember all 700+ match-ups, so I made myself and friends a website that just tells us. I suggest you just look it up and eventually the ones you see the most you'll remember.

First game was fucking god tier for my 11 year old self.
Second gen was pretty fucking good and I enjoyed it.
Third gen made perhaps the biggest leap in graphics in the franchise, and it felt awesome to play that eye-candy back then.
The remake of the first gen was pretty damn amazing as far as I'm concerned. I enjoyed it thoroughly... almost to the end. I couldn't get Deoxys.

All others after that felt way too repetitive and boring. I legit couldn't finish black version, I got bored, stopped playing it and after a few weeks I just realized I was never going to play it again. Keeping up with all the new types and names is also a pain.

I know a faggot who is obsessed with the fucking thing, and it allows me to see how much the franchise declined. The EV training and all that is fucking bullshit. Made me hate the game.

As for spinoffs, there's good and there's bad ones. Stadium was pretty damn cool, loved the shit out of that one. Rescue teams was fine, but needed some work. Pokemon trading card game was a goddamn blast, freaking genius piece of work, I have no fucking clue why they didn't pursue making another game; that shit had future. Pokemon-tetris attack hybrid was a good way to mix them both; it was great while it lasted. Everything else is shit, in my opinion.

Pokemon is over as far as I'm concerned. I had fun while it appealed to me; and it saddens me that they're still trying to beat that horse until death and beyond.

I've been on a Pokemon hiatus for some time now, and after watching E3, I'm pretty hype, definitely getting Moon becuase I'm an edgelord.

Ditto.
I'm doing for Sun and Moon what I did for XY and going in pretty much blind. Diving into a pokemon game where everything is new is amazing.
I went into a blind nuzlocke of X knowing less than 10 of the new pokemon, only a vague sort of idea that mega evolution existed and without knowing what the region was even called. It was awesome.

...

It was great until the 4th Generation, but now it's like CoD with new PKMN coming out every year or so. How the fuck am I supposed to catch over 700+ monsters on a video game? What kind of time?

Whatever. I guess it's better than being cucked by EA, Activision, Microsoft, and Sony.

Nothing really has changed in 20 years. Wish they would change some mechanics like:

Why can't i have a special defense Charizard?
Because, statwise it can only be an offensive pokemon?

Just more freedom regarding that.

I'll be choosing Owlet.

love it

It's still every three years. Has been for a while.

You're a cool guy.

...

>I thought it was each year
>it's actually one
Man...my life is passing me by...

Nobody expects you to catch all the Pokemon. It's not required for any of the games or for any major sidequest in ANY Pokemon game.

>What kind of time?
Nigguh the time you would've used to be on Sup Forums like you are right now I guess.

That would be an immersive mechanic, but even after all these years Pokemon still caters to a casual demographic that either don't want change or are just being introduced into the series.

>250 hours

filthy casual

*sigh*
I mean yeah, but...for those version-exclusive Pokemon, what am I supposed to do? How's that gonna look? A 27-year old hitting up 9-12 year olds for pokemon trades.
>Hey kid, you want an Flareon?

>I only started playing it this year.
