When I was 18/19 yo, there was a girl on campus missing her right leg above the knee that i saw four or five times. I prefer amputees on crutches, but only ever saw her using a prosthesis.
Never spoke to her, but I tried to find out what classes she had, etc etc, so I could set up a convenient, "chance" meeting. Unfortunately, she managed to disappear before I could pin her down...

And I had classes with this chick. Not an amputee, but she'd had bone cancer in her left leg a couple of years before. She walked with a limp and the support of crutches.
Not wishing bad things upon people, but that's very close to becoming an amputee (and definitely would have been a couple of decades ago).
I have no luck when it comes to meeting amputees.
