Memes aside, the complexity of Cardiacs tunes really benefit a lot from clean production. That's one reason I'm thankful that the SGC records exist, so their older compositions can be appreciated more.

My guess is that they were most active in the 80's and 90's, which were both decades where popular music had to follow a strict formula to succeed. Cardiacs on the other hand basically just did whatever the fuck they wanted and never gained much mainstream appeal because of it.

Most people influenced by them are from england where they are mroe known but even there you had poeple like NME refusing to give them any PR because the tarred and feathered video triggered them for some reason
Radio producers also fucking hated them, the sea nymphs john peel session was only accomplished by lying and saying they were a new band, and jsut getting some tracks together from what was then a 7 year old album and releasing an EP which was just old songs so they could get that PR

timmy said hsi favorite album he has made is heaven born and ever bright and is generally one of the less liked among fans so you could make some good arguments for that
only thing really alienating might be the second half of jitterbug most of it is pretty palatable great pop songs though
for seaside I prefer the garage concert performances of pretty much all the tracks so it's probably my least listened too release though
