Buckethead

I love David (especially solos on comfortably numb and Time) but my favorite is the AceMan106

Kurt Cobain, for one.

Dirtbag Dannis

Although Gilmour has the best soul playing in guitar history, you can't beat Hendrix.

Knopfler?

^Yep. Hendrix is the best.

Jack white

Nuno bettencourt.

Serious answer here: John Petrucci.

[Prog] Metal guitarist. Doesn't really count

Not a legit Rock guitar player. He's a virtuoso schooled in countless styles

fuck you mean doesn't count?

Tom Delonge

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FAGGOT

Not sure if better, but coked up clapton is based

Taking troll bait, Kurt Cobain is the most basic guitar player in rock history

...

Tosin Abasi.

Done.

lol

Easy: Herman Li

this

there's no other truth

True but he can get across so much more emotion in one note than all these other guys can with a million

Ummm kyle Gass is the best futurist in history

My nigga, Gilmour and Iommi are my favorites

Knopfler is grossly underappreciated

Greatest tone in rock history. Nothing else like it

Agreed

Pink Floyd are one of the most commercially successful and significant groups in the history of rock music.

Lol poser songs detected. Do you even Meddle? Echoes bro.

I love Tom but he's not a great guitarist. Good at coming up with riffs and lyrics but not an especially talented guitarist.

echoes live in pompeii

he's personally one of my favorite songwriters, but come on. obvious bait is obvious.

Matt Bellamy can have my firstborn

guthrie govan

dwayne allman

Yeah but his free form wanking on everything up until Dark Side was just that:wanking. It wasnt until he created consise tight solos that he became legendary. Song wise though, yeah it was great: Echoes, Atom Heart Mother, Obscured by Clouds etc but the guitar work on that stuff is very anticlimactic to me

slash

to contribute:

my personal god-tier guitarists:
Brian May
David Gilmour
Jonny Greenwood
Johnny Marr

pete townsend

john frusciante

Jimmy Page

Matt Skiba or Billie Joe Armstrong

/Thread

You all just fucking lost newfags

His solo in Echoes is live you fucking faggot. Tell me that's "wanking"

Morrisey

SRV gives him a run for his money

youtube.com/watch?v=W_Yyn6LT2n4

Eddie Van Halen you faggots.

Get out of here and take your pet nigger with you.

i hope its bait
if not you are fucking sad

Gilmour's was better.
youtu.be/8UXircX3VdM?t=2m5s

Literally anyone else

Serious answer : Eddie Van Halen

Sloppy nigger is overrated .

guthrie govan honestly beats hendrix in every aspect of playing...virtuosity, diversity, phrasing, expression, everything.

yep, the absolute best for mood music imo. There is a plethora of brilliant guitarists out there in numerous genres but Gilmore has always been my 'go to' for when the drugs kick in.

wtf? this overated junkie?
he got made famous by the sjw's of his time, fucking heroin addicted pos.

...

ye but hendrix did it 50 years ago

it's b8 obviously but they're both good.

(the guitarist of my favorite band)

I assume that's how people are choosing their answer.

Sorry bro, it's wanking. That's the point it's live, I prefer his more composed solos. But if you enjoy it more power to u. I like it too, but don't love it. I love his later solos on The Wall and Animals

easy

Kevin Shields.
It's not always about flashy techniques, you know.

what is wanking in this context? genuine question

guys i dont know if you are trolling or you just dont know a shit about music

>discussing greatest guitarists.
>dismisses guitarist due to serious drug issues.

>hurr but bass guitar IS a type of guitar lol

You knew what the point of the thread was.

Flea

Also it's worth noting he died when he was 27... Imagine if Gilmour or Clapton had died at that age. They wouldn't be half as rated as they are today. What he achieved in his 4 year career was amazing

this is true but he has expanded and improved on all of the aforementioned as well...drastic improvements.

Jake Bugg anyone? the only guy making real music these days

he is not a great guitarist you damn nigger

Free form solos that thrive on spontaneity and not being sure where it's going...basically just ripping whatever comes off the top of your head. As opposed to solos that are composed and crafted piece by piece, that have a logical progression of beginning/middle/end

never assume pal it'll make an ass out of u and me. but mainly you. The topic is guitarists, get with the program

thank you

>the only guy making real music these days
>real music

Youre the only one here who knows what youre talking about

I feel like if Hendrix hadn't died that NO ONE would still be talking about him

My nigga

Rofl

>implying Gilmour is technical

With the exception of , , , , and , you all have shitty, r/music-tier taste. kys rn.

...

SRV is, without a doubt, greater than jimi. Anyone who says otherwise is just unedjumacated

...

Nope. He was a huge part of the 60's music/hippie revolution. Plus he blew the balls off of his contemporary greats like Clapton or Page when they first heard him. Not to mention all the innovations he made with effects.

Youre into the smiths?? You have worse taste in music than all these other retards

he has a point. everything else these days is diluted chart rubbish

Is this really Buckethead in the pic? Lol

Knopfler schools most. Virtuoso of many styles, and has fun doing it.

le wrong generation XD

kurt cobaine

The only correct answer
youtube.com/watch?v=Zu-ej_S6_7s
John Petrucci is a god.

david fucking bowie

lmao first of all, SRV's style simply would have not existed without Jimi. Secondly, Jimi was more versatile across different genres.
As far as pure technical skill in playing, SRV at his very best arguably was a bit more refined. I'll still bet money there isn't any of his material which Jimi couldn't have played well.

Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa, Steve Howe, Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, etc...

This thread sure is full of 12 year old dadrockers

Muhammed Suicmez

paul did play a lot of guitar on their records. his playing is probably my favorite of the three
