/daily/ - Batlord edition

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

I haven't, actually, thanks!

Have you heard Meredith's Black Raider EP? I hated that but don't know if this one's comparable.

Yeah true, I like either really traditional pop or more to the rnb/hiphop side, dunno what to call it (frank ocean, fka twigs, etc)
I've heard this recording (rateyourmusic.com/release/album/orchestre-de-la-bastille_myung-whun-chung_yvonne_loriod_jeanne-loriod/turangalila-symphonie/), would you say it's worth it to listen to that one?

Me on the left

Crippling Lack was a little disappointing tbdesu but it might just be i lost the hunger for this kinda music, or he was never anything special to begin with, probably all three. in any case it's too much of the same old for almost 2 hours, neither are there any highlights jumping at me
or idk, are there? did i like it?

no, you didn't
or did you?
me i listened to the portion of it thats on spotify and it was ok

the year is shaping up pretty decently though, there's even a lot of stuff i still wanna hear left
>Corima
>Ehnahre
>Erra
>Sumac
>Slice the Cake
>Gaslamp Killer
>Amerakin Overdose
>Beartooth
>Vektor
>Wormrot
>something else ???

I really need to get listening to some releases from this year, I've only listened to a handful.

Any of those you'd particularly recommend?

Steam Powered Giraffe?

to you specifically? no idea
hmm i always found them pretty boring

:/
Then this maybe
Or Skalmöld?

Need to finish my chart finally, just 8 albums left

the salmon of doubt was the most interesting
stay lost was the most thoroughly enjoyable

>Wormrot
Their new one was real good, their new drummer is fantastic. I think Nails still gets my grind aotysf though

is Pantherjump to Agadir the greatest band of all time?
>set out to cover prussian marches in the style of black metal
>four guys, three of whom never played an instrument before
>the one who could play drums was not allowed to play drums
>every gig they would play with different instruments they haven't previously had in hand
>played exactly two gigs
>released exactly one demo which consists of a 1 minute field recording of a demonstration
soundcloud.com/pantherjump-to-agadir/pjta-demo1

I liked it so much I just listened to their entire discography

get in

Grant Green - Idle Moments (1965)
>hard bop

Really, really solid. Very few outwardly impressive moments, but it's impressive from a technical and compositional standpoint while still managing to be super accessible, smooth, and all-around cool. The title track is by far the best track, Duke Pearson makes a 15-minute long track filled with repeated motifs feel like 3 minutes, and all the solos are exquisite, Green obviously being the standout. Green is a much better guitarist than he his a composer, so "Jean de Fleur" seems a bit stale in comparison to Pearson's works, with the great "Nomad" closing out the album. It's bookended by two absolutely stellar pieces of jazz, but the middle two tracks are a bit too standard. Still a very good album.

3.0+

Talulah Gosh - Backwash (1996)
>twee pop, C86, indie pop

They're not the best twee band in the world, but they've got enough cute, sappy melodies to be lovable as hell. The compilation format doesn't really suit them, however, because their sound is so samey and repetitive, an hour of it is too much. Melodies change, sure, but the basic sound is just hashed out over and over again, making this inherently lovable sound and band seem irritating by the record's end. Some constants are welcome, mainly the shockingly experimental guitar work and the hyperactive, energetic drums, but I'd love to see these aspects taken in a different, more bold direction.

2.5-

hey

hey :)

hi

what's on that shirt?

As soon as exams are over I'm doing mushrooms to this album.

>being a degenerate druggie

don't forget to kill yourself afterwards

I'm on the Dean's list in Engineering, how's your life going bud?

Kek @ u

put your trip back on givingbear

STRAIGHT MURDERED

i've never done mushrooms, but i'm pretty certain that's the perfect album to do them to.

I'm starting to think you anonpost and bully people to balance out your trip persona.

The first time I did them I listened to Psychic TV with headphones and walked alone through a forest at night.
10/10 would not do again.
This album will be perfection, though. Hopefully my buddies are down for the music choice.

Also @co definitely casually asked me for acid when we met :^)
I told him I was gonna post this.

I wish I posted at all anymore, let alone anonpost. It's only during awkward family gatherings that I even have time to post on the side (mostly because I can't speak spanish)

hahahahahahaha

>Engineering

lol

That's exactly what someone who secretly anonposts would say :^)
Hope you're having a good thanksgiving with the Bear family!

Haha good thing I'm not Hampus and I don't even have to bother defending my degree.

you couldn't anyway because it's shit

Thanks Jangle, see you around, cool guy (that Buckley live album was nice btw, thanks for the rec)

>They're not the best twee band in the world
w r o n g

>no big mess
how can you even take this chart seriously "shaking my head"

Glad you liked it!!!!!!!!

Hey, when are you back in the studio guy?

>not touched
plebe

yeah ya'll were having a god damn christmas parade when I was up there like slow the fuck down we still got a month and then some

There's not a whole lot of net anger going on in that situation tbqh

we had our first day in the studio today, which went with setting up and such. tomorrow we start recording, and we're (hopefully) done thursday next week.

Nice man, looking forward to the album!

Good Morning /daily/!

Hungover, ready for work!
I think Jandek right now will hit the spot.

OR maybe that new Borbetomagus record. I got a download link :^)
awesome!

looking forward to share it with all you! it's gonna be a bit different from the last one, we have what's basically a bossa nova track on this one haha

good morning my friend, i hope russia isn't wearing you down too much
i played jandek at the bar the other day, while a couple was sitting in the corner breaking up. wonderful atmosphere in the room

>good morning my friend, i hope russia isn't wearing you down too much
Nah, I'm back in Riga this week and hopefully not going back to Russia for the next 1000 years. It's wonderful being here, although the room still somewhat bothers me.
>i played jandek at the bar the other day, while a couple was sitting in the corner breaking up. wonderful atmosphere in the room
This is what patrician feels like.

clipping. - Splendor & Misery (2016)
>industrial hip hop

Their best effort so far, mainly because it doesn't have any flat-out irritating moments like CLPPNG has, but it's still a very hit-and-miss album. They experiment with so many different styles, industrial, noise, and even spirituals are thrown into the mix, but they constantly prove themselves to only be good at hip hop. They've certainly got a lot of good ideas, I like the a cappella spiritual tracks and the industrial beats are appropriately dark and evil-sounding, but every experimental flourish seems near-amateur and their over-reliance on drone gets old quickly. They're never better than when they go for a more standard (well, relatively speaking) hip hop sound, because Diggs is a /great/ rapper (and it's surreal seeing him get so famous), and I love his flow. These tracks are few and far between, leaving the album to be an uneven, overambitious mess anchored by only a few good tracks.

2.0

jesus, doing that sober would be terrifying.

HYPE

good morning dog! it's always amused me how unamused you look in that picture.

I don't even know why! I was totally digging the show!

it's a great pic, nonetheless.

sleep tight my dudes

good night!

>jesus, doing that sober would be terrifying.
It was terrifying! I also stared in the mirror and did everything else you're '''not supposed to do''' because fuck rules, I'm doing this shit my way.
Fun experience, learned a lot, recommend it to literally nobody.

Morning Dogman!
What Jandek album is most like European Jewel?
I liked that song and I'm intrigued enough about him to explore further.
Got a good laugh from that pic btw.
