you try hard to get the approval of those around you

Guillermo del Toro
Sam Rami
David Lynch
John Cassavetes
Howard Hawks

jia zhangke
tsai ming-liang
jean-luc godard
apichatpong weerasethakul
chris marker

Well, it's gonna be hard to do that when you just list the most popular, acclaimed filmmakers.

They're not innovators like the two Europeans on my list, but directors are legitimate auteurs with a pretty impressive mastery of style.

>Luis Buñuel
>Alejandro G. Iñarritu
>Guillermo del Toro
>Zack Snyder
>Clint Eastwood

>John Cassavetes
>Shane Carruth
>Stanley Kubrick
>John Carpenter
>Martin Scorsese

>Zach Snyder

I can at least tell you're an attention whore.

fag

>George Romero
>Brian De Palma
>Derek Jarman
>Paul Verhoeven
>John Carpenter

Jean Bartholomew Jinx
Rodrigo Peña Alatriste
Xi Liu
Ivan P. Gradivostov
Miyazaki Takahara

If you don't know them, you're probably helpless plebs.

...

I bet you enjoy the flicks of Wes Anderson

Bergman
Fellini
Rossellini
Antonioni
Kurosawa

I can't tell if you're just memeing, but Chris Maker is bretty good. La Jetee has been my favorite "film" for so long I don't even remember how I came across it.

>Alfred Hitchcock
>Buster Keaton
>Billy Wilder
>Woody Allen
>David Lean

>I can't tell if you're just memeing,
?

Wow, now there's something I thought I'd never hear again. That has to be the worst thing to come out of Bane posting: everyone think they could start a meme and as a result we got forced shit like that

>Alejandro G. Iñarritu
>Derek Cianfrance
>Guillermo del Toro
>Spike Jonze
>Zack Snyder

you listed 6

The wickedest.

You're an only child and abused by daddy.

Pedro Almodovar
Alejandro G. Inarritu
The Coen Brothers
Edward Yang
David Fincher

That's a pretty eclectic set of people you put together.

If you just googled obscure or lesser known directors to ironically appear tryhard, that'd be pretty typical behavior for Sup Forums. Some of the shitposters here go through impressive amounts of meta research in the name of "memes". I can never really take a post at it's face value anymore.

>Wachowski

Sergio Leone
Akira Kurosawa
Ridley Scott

>Terrence Malick - Knight of Cups
>Paul Thomas Anderson - The Master
>Shane Carruth - Upstream Color
>Coen Brothers - A Serious Man
>David Lynch - Mulholland Drive

Yeah, Fritz Lang only made flicks, while the rest are at least film-tier.

No words for how angry this post makes me. It's like pure, distilled and refined evil.

>John Carpenter
>Akira Kurosawa
>Stanley Kubrick
>Alfred Hitchcock
Cant think of a 5th

*Oh wait

Werner Herzog
Sergio Corbucci
Billy Wilder
Dario Argento
Stanley Kubrick

Don't you like fun?

Avid imdb user.
Flaming homosexual.

David Lean
Michael Mann
Terrence Malick
James Cameron
Paul Thomas Anderson

Has he ever made a flick?

His works tend to be films with the appeal of movies.

What's so good about La Jetee? Just the "dude stills LMAO" shit?

Shinya Tsukamoto
The Coens

>Shinya Tsukamoto
964 Pinocchio > Tetsuo the Iron Man

Does anybody sincerely like Zac Snyder? He's so damn boring and everything he creates looks like it was pulled straight out of a 14 year old's head.

>Does anybody sincerely like Zac Snyder? everything he creates looks like it was pulled straight out of a 14 year old's head.

Which is at the heart of his mastery of the medium. He is intelligent and he gets the irony. Meanwhile, his visual storytelling is always the foreground of the whole film. He throws very few shots away. And, he's very good with actors. I unironically think he's a genius.

lol

>964 Pinocchio > Tetsuo the Iron Man

Consider me chastened. Have not seen.

you don't care what people think about you but not in the good alpha way more like in the hobo who doesn't shower or works way

964 Pinocchio is definitely more of an acquired taste. It's not as inaccessible as Death Powder but it cam be pretty damn hard to get through if you aren't really into this kind of thing.

I usually get told to fuck off whenever I recommend the movie by somebody who quit halfway through. If you watch it you'll probably be able to guess where they stopped.

2 french 'new wave' directors and 2 Chinese directors no not really 'eclectic'

What is this genre and why is it so based? I remember when I first found Tsukamoto's stuff, it was like finding a hidden world. It's the most stylized shit I've ever seen.

>Michael Mann

Delusions of proletarianism.

Thief is good, I don't get Michael Mann, though. I saw The Keep, Tom Cruise hitman thing, twenty minutes of Miami Vice, Mohicans, Heat, Red Dragon, maybe some other stuff.

Thief and Mohawks is the only true bit of kino he's done...

>ANDY WARHOL
>HARMONY KORINE
>JOHN CASSAVETES
>DAVID LYNCH
>WERNER HERZOG

>Thief and Mohawks is the only true bit of kino he's done...

Actually, just Thief.

>harmony korine in the same breath as those great directors
gross

Lars Von Trier
Spike Jonze
Kubrick
Ridley Scott
Darren Aronofsky

>>ANDY WARHOL
>>HARMONY KORINE
>>JOHN CASSAVETES
>>DAVID LYNCH
>>WERNER HERZOG

You own a beanie. You elbow toddlers on busy streets from your pavement scooter. You are a coffee connoisseur.

I suppose you'd just call it Japanese Cyberpunk. They really emphasize the 'punk' part of that. Like punk music it's about making a statement by being as subversive and unconventional as possible. It's all like a giant middle-finger to everything a movie should be.

If you meant to write 'Red Dragon' there and not 'Manhunter' you've made a mistake. Red Dragon is the lame remake of Manhunter. Mann directed Manhunter. Agree with you on Thief, easily his best movie.

Akira Kurosawa
Steve McQueen
Jeff Nicholes
Asghar Farhadi
Paul Thomas Anderson

I don't know about personality, but I like you guys.

>Hayao Miyazaki
>Paul Thomas Anderson
>Paul Verhoeven
>Nicolas Roeg
>David Cronenberg

>Stanley Kubrick
>Wes Anderson
>Ridley Scott
>Quentin Tarantino
>Akira Kurosawa

I'm not going to pretend they're the best filmmakers ever, but i consistently enjoy everything I've seen that they make/have made

nolan :^)

>If you meant to write 'Red Dragon' there and not 'Manhunter' you've made a mistake. Red Dragon is the lame remake of Manhunter. Mann directed Manhunter. Agree with you on Thief, easily his best movie.

Yeah I meant ManHunter. Brian Cox is really the only bright spot for me. But he is a rockstar as Hannibal.

Thief is incredible. It's such a great story about a man and his job. Serious kino.

Don't forgot that amazing Tangerine Dream score:
