Overseas oil production is not hampered with needless regulation and is quite a bit cheaper to get and sell.

Even if we produced enough oil to power our country, we would still be dependent on foreign oil. Price wouldn't go down, because Exxon or whoever would sell it to the highest bidder. Canada is a producer of oil and is still subject to the same price fluctuations we are. The only way we could be energy autonomous is if we nationalized oil, but wait, that would be big guberment.

No, my point was deregulation will have absolutely no impact on the price of oil, as Oil companies will always sell to the highest bidder and the Saudis will always have the cheapest oil that is already out of the ground.
