i agree they're not the best, but kurt cobain was an amazing vocalist imo. i'm not too sure on his guitar skills - covers of songs like plateau and the man who sold the world were done way better by their original creators - but they were a great band nonetheless. like you said, they pioneered grunge, and you've gotta have some form of talent to become such a phenomena as they were.
