Let me break it down for you, where i live, we have been harassed by police to an extend that they will beat for fun and who do you think a judge will believe if you take it to court? a couple of young men with small time crimes in their records like drugs and shoplifting or a couple of honorable police officers? These officers have even planted drugs in people cars only to charge them because they simply don't like the person.
There is no I in this, but there is a plan to terrorize these specific police officers from within. Their information has been found thanks to help. Where they live, who their wives/husbands are, where their children go to school etc.
While in the presence of a police officer on duty, there is no intelligence in attacking them then, unless you're the mob, so

Basically anyone who has seen a forensics show before can tell you that they go into deep detail provided that they HAVE to find out who did it. This means any government figure or someone who has money and will pursue the crime. And, in most cases, they will find who did the crime. There is a lot of ways to find out through forensics. There was one case recently that they found the killer by a glove they found at the scene that had the killer's sweat on it.
That being said, about 1% of the cases are pursued. As long as your know the person who you intend to.. commit a crime "on"... and you know they aren't related to any government official or have any sort of money (I'd say $400,000 is enough to do forensics for a case (meaning the family would have to make OVER $400k a year PER person (Mom & dad would have to make a combined $800k))) then, if done correctly, you will most likely get away with it.
I would suggest watching Dexter. It sounds fucked up, but it's the most realistic way of killing someone and hiding the body. It wouldn't be hidden forever, but by the time they found the body the evidence would be hideously destroyed to a point where you could hire a lawyer to say that "The evidence is x years old..." to be thrown out.

DNA examples: Semen, Saliva, Hair follicles. Eyelashes, ect... All can be tested for DNA. Skin is constantly shed at crime scenes, but rarely can be tested.
Clothing fibers / carpet fibers. Extremely useful evidence. A lot of clothing can have unique fibers separate from cotton / polyester, color can make a huge difference / uniqueness.
Pet hair's can even be found and traced back to suspect's that own pets.
Boot prints are easily obtainable and tracable, however most shoe / boot soul's aren't unique.
Blood spatter. Even without murder cases, blood spatter can be found from both the victim or suspect, things like POH (point of hem-ridge) can be found to re-create the scene.
Weapons left behind at scenes can sometimes be traced back to stores and purchase history can be found.

Witnesses. They can be everywhere, suspects may not even know they are being watched. Witnesses can give detail to cops like height, skin color, facial details, get-away vehicles, weapons used, and much more.
