It already overtook hockey.

Baseball maybe in 20 years.

colin cowherd claims it already has

>and baseball

How about no

>People think baseball isn't the 2nd sport in America
Lmao why? NBA likes making people think its the 2nd most popular sport in America but in numbers and reality it isn't.

>NCAAB less than NHL
I find this extremely hard to believe

Hockey is big on the east coast and midwest and those huge cities definitely have more people than Kentucky, North Carolina and whoever the fuck else cares about NCAAB.

these are leagues not sports

polling asking about sports, not leagues, is far more accurate and telling

You have to look at the question. It's primary sport only. You can imagine that there's more people who care about hockey above the other sports, but there's fewer people who care about NCAAB the most when NCAAF and NBA are available.

Everyone loves NCAAB, it's just it's mainly filler.

The only professional sports active during NCAAB big deal, march madness is
>Basedball(Spring training so not fully)
>NBA
>NHL

That leaves the NFL and college football fans needing something to watch during off season, so a lot of people get hyped for their own college team during march madness making it seem like the nation loves college basketball a whole lot, when reality it's filler for both kinds of football fans, and MLB fans to a point while their sport is currently inactive.

It's like a secondary favorite.

Here are sports and a more recent poll.

This shit about soccer "growing" in the US is only something the media made up in order to get more to watch it. If it's growing it's at a snail pace and can't even beat fucking NASCAR.

Nah it's going to stay niche for awhile but it will definitely survive and grow a little bit. Baseball is fine.
Basketball ironically gets WAY higher TV ratings than hockey but the attendance averages are both at 17k and the total attendances are both at 21 million. Hockey does have a pretty decent following but it's very regional.

among 12-17 year olds its the second most popular sport only behind basketball

MLS gets higher attendance than MLB and NBA. tv ratings for USMNT is rising and big tournaments like the EURO keep gaining in viewership.

add into that how many latino's are in the U.S. and it's not hard to see the trends m8

When the baby boomers finally die off

>Favourite sport
>Lists leagues

Never
Hockey is still miles ahead of mls and catching up to NBA again

Yes when spics become the majority
in 10 years or so

and divegrass is 100% commercials (uniforms, animations, the field itself, etc), more shekels

>user finds out college sports popularity is a meme
Oh no
Where you from? The south?

It's your most popular export though.

NFL is almost unknown here, and baseball is like an alien sport played on faraway planets.

But the NBA stars and teams... everyone knows the Chicago Bulls, heard vaguely about LeBron James, etc.

>12-17 year olds
among boys?

>MLS gets higher attendance than MLB
2/10
I laughed

Doubt it. Literally no one gives a shit about it in NYC and Jersey and there's the biggest market in the country

>among 12-17 year olds its the second most popular sport only behind basketball

Factually incorrect, see pic.

>attendance

I can't repeat enough times that attendance means jack shit in 2016, most people are watching shit on their TVs. I won't even get to the fact that soccer stadiums tend to have higher capacity than basketball arena for obvious reasons (and no, it's not popularity).

>TV ratings

Most people here who "care about soccer" give a shit ONLY about the international tournaments. So they watch a USMNT game or the WC finals during summertime when 4/5 of the biggest American sports are in offseason mode, they aren't the kinds of people that follow soccer all year round.

everyone knows about the New York Yankees and has heard vaguely about Derek Jeter, etc.

NBA is just more visible because niggers are loud and obnoxious

Jetes you say?

Jay z made the Yankees hat more famous than the Yankees

as someone said, it's because baseball and most other "american" sports are entirely alien to europeans. i tried watching a game the other day and literally didn't understand what was going on. only player i can name is babe ruth.

The media should understand that football (soccer) won't grow because people watch it on TV, but because people play it themselves.

Football is not a show, it's a passion.

who?

People in the US give a shit about soccer once every 4 years. That's hardly enough to overtake the national pastime.

Literally who?

>Derek Jeter

Literally who?

Yuropoors should pray to fucking Allah that soccer never gets popular in America, because we would turn it into a nonstop commercial carousel with advanced stats autism every 5 seconds.

Soccer can't be popular here because the other leagues pays for it to be blacked out in coverage

People only give a shit about college basketball during Meme Madness.

fight and win

This tbqh. Only flyover cornhusking cucks like LeX care about it outside ofe March

>MLS gets higher attendance than MLB

What the fuck are you on? Are you just baiting and pulling shit out of your ass?

Compare

mlsattendance.blogspot.com/

and

espn.go.com/mlb/attendance/_/year/2015

There's 17 teams that have over 30k in attendance in the MLB and only 3 of them in the MLeLS. And that's with the MLB playing 6 gorillion games in a year.

Soccer will never be relevant in the US as long as MLS is irrelevant

You already do that though
You think we don't follow espn here?

No.

South American leagues are irrelevant, yet it's the only relevant sport there.

Soccer is not a show, it will never succeed if it's only a show (even with the best quality games).

Nope. Even our beaners care less about soccer than you'd expect them to. Dodgers, Raiders, Cowboys or Lakers have all a massive Hispanic fanbase.

>among 12-17 year olds

Also worth mentioning here is the idea that this demographic's taste will stay fixed.

Growing up in the 90's, basketball was the "youth sport." Jordan was the coolest athlete in the US, and every kid wanted to be like Mike. I remember the talking heads of the day declaring that basketball would be as popular as the NFL in coming decade.

Never happened.

All kids go through phases where [insert sport here] is now their favorite sport.

Soccer will rise in popularity, maybe to PGA tour level or something like that, but has no chance at supplanting baseball.

It's also still behind hockey by a good margin.

People have been touting the "baseball is dead" meme since the 80s and yet it still remains a #2 sport by a significant margin. They just assumed it's in free fall once football overtook it, but that was obviously not the case.

And look at the devotion our national team gets in a "big" Copa American match.

On English speaking channels, barely beats out Women's softball.

Don't forget the Mexican play soccer meme

Miami
Tampa
LA
Anahiem
SF
Even south side Chicago

Hispanics all through and Mexicans in the west to be specific have support their local baseball team more so than soccer

Yes MLS is relatively new but it also had 30 years to capture a audience and only picked up hipsters

>People have been touting the "baseball is dead" meme since the 80s and yet it still remains a #2 sport by a significant margin.

Yeah, and the stupid thing they do is reference World Series ratings, which actually still prove baseball is popular.

For instance, the game 7 in the 2014 featuring the relatively unglamorous franchises of the Royals and Giants drew 23 million.

This years NBA Finals game 7 drew 30 million, but featured the two biggest stars in the game and was backed the most compelling storyline of the last decade.

The NBA Finals also has the luxury of running unopposed to the NFL. The World Series will often have to go up against Sunday, Thursday and Monday Night football.

Hipsters don't play the game, so their audience is worthless.

As long as soccer has a "so hip, so Yuropean, so cultured" vibe in America, it won't go anywhere. Soccer is not hip or cultured. It's a working class sport, and it's an obsession.

Soccer must be loved by white trash, not be liberal faggots.

Don't forget Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. Texas is Mexican as fuck yet football and basketball are still kings there.

>As long as soccer has a "so hip, so Yuropean, so cultured" vibe in America, it won't go anywhere. Soccer is not hip or cultured. It's a working class sport, and it's an obsession.
This so much.

I usually call an American baseball hater here a Paco, but fact is, baseball is Mexico's number two ball sport, so the meme that baseball will die as the country gets more "Mexican" is bullshit.

Hispanic growth is also slowing.

Even if does, most americans will never know all the names said in this music.
youtube.com/watch?v=nrOLGifnMJk

>working class sport

This so much. Soccer in Europe is not the sport of wine sipping twinks going to art galleries and dining in fine restaurants like hipsters assume, it's a sport followed by balding 40 year old fat men chugging cheap beer. Those kinds of people watch football in this country and will keep watching it for a long time.

our marketeers have seen through that and sold scarves to people in scalding heat so they can be euroboos and it has worked better than the earlier attempts from MLS to get domestic attention

I think the only baseball player known here is Problem Child
>mfw when they translated home run as touchdown

>As long as soccer has a "so hip, so Yuropean, so cultured" vibe in America, it won't go anywhere.

Agreed.

These are the types who "love" it here.

>“It’s almost guaranteed that almost any male literary person under the age of 45 is going to be somewhat versed in soccer,” said Sean Wilsey, a writer who helped edit “The Thinking Fan’s Guide to the World Cup,”

nytimes.com/2014/04/17/fashion/soccer-particularly-englands-premier-league-growing-in-popularity-in-new-york-creative-circles.html

I also don't get this idea that it has to grow here? Not every country has to have the exact same sports culture, and I think it would be a boring world if soccer was the 95% most popular sports in every country while all other sports are relegated to the fringe.

If the US clubs get into Libertadores, it would get a boost

It's too far away for them. Even their league is divided in west/east "conferences".

Heavily doubt it, most people don't care about watching Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake playing against American teams so I doubt they would tune in to see them get BTFO by FC Narcotraficante from some random wetback country they can't even find on the map.

who /turnleftandsometimesright/ here?

Anecdotal evidence here, but when I went to a Trump rally, this is exactly what the majority of people there looked like

Might just be because I live in Arizona tho

wtf Im a #hillmissile now

Is Arizona fat? I'm moving there soon and have a fetish for obese bitches.

Not gonna lie, I've been enjoying soccer after watching a few games. I like baseball, but I'd rank it third behind football and soccer in watchable sports for me. NBA need not apply.

>thicc

If there are fatties out here they're hiding from the heat for most of the year.

No. Soccer always has and will be a toddler sport here because all you have to do is kick a ball. Once they're older they'll play a real sport. It a manlet they can still play baseball (Altuve) or MMA

No matter how many times you ask, the answer is still no.

hockey and baseball? no
football? Yes

Football isn't going anywhere. Even if the concussion shit becomes a big deal they will just pussify the rules but not forget about the whole sport.

That is mostly because Hispanics are mixracing with whites

who did they poll
was it randomized
what was the sample size
were those the only choices on the list
etc etc etc

Why the fuck does Amerilards loves their football so much? It's the most boring sport on Earth and pro matches are like 50% ads.

Hockey is like the best popular sport besides footballl there and basketball, baseball and American """""football""""" are still more popular.
Nice tastes you have there, Americans.

>matches

Go back to diveshit

No
/thread

Our white trash think soccer is gay as fuck and will never take it up, honestly.

If I asked to play soccer instead of football as a kid, my dad probably would've called me a fag and grounded me for a week.

>2 sports ahead of football
>mls outselling mlb
Nigger take your bait elsewhere

Can you look more American?

Gayest thing ive heard all day. Also false

Add a black person and a girl with blue hair.

Do you understand geographic differences in the US, Europe etc? There are states in the US where hockey is #1 like their are countries in Europe while hockey is #1
Both cases they are on the northern/colder side of things OBVIOUSLY

you are a retarded american, your opinion is worthless

Who the fuck is problem child

>porn will never be popular because those that truly love sex are having it themselves
>sex is a passion not a show
Yuro logic

ITT: yurofags who don't understand how large the US is

Our country is gigantic compared to most of yours. There is a wide range of climate and cultural differences from region to region. It would be like comparing the popularity of soccer from Finland to Spain.

If you mean the entirety of the US, soccer needs to take hold in the working class of the midwest and southeast and these places are both cultural dominated by a love of football to the point where soccer, by way of it not being a contact sport, is demeaned as being a 'sissy sport.' Americans see themselves as hard-working, blue-collar people. We understand that we have plenty of flaws but one thing in which we have a lot of national pride is our toughness and willingness to take risks.

Football, even with all of the concussion issues and concerns, will remain king in the US for at least another 25 years. I expect baseball will pick up a lot of its slack due to its traditional aspects, though soccer will gain a bit of popularity too from football's eventual slow decline. Just realize this shit is going to take decades. It'll probably be 2050 at least before soccer has an even respectable place in the national conversation.

I get what Burgers are saying. In my country there's plenty of Ameriboos around my age (late teen). They are obnoxious assholes who adore everything American, mind you most of the people here enjoy US stuff, like the movies and so,but there are some giant faggots who stepped over the line a long time ago.

I guess that you guys have yuroboos in America, the liberal assholes from Seattle who think that football/soccer in Europe is a part of the sophisticated culture.Well it's not, especially the more Eastern you go.

Burgers, keep loving your own sports, and fuck the hipster liberals.

>the liberal assholes from Seattle who think that football/soccer in Europe is a part of the sophisticated culture.

Is this true? There are people in the US which think football is this sophisticated thing in Europe and watching a match is like going to a piano concerto or some shit like that?

Its doubtful it will ever overtake baseball unless the illegal immigration is ramped up to unbelievable levels and their birthrate skyrockets.

Baseball dying is a massive meme, soccer growing fast is an even bigger one. I'm pretty sure fucking lacrosse is growing at a faster rate than soccer

this..

sorry but I haven't heard the name ever and I only know the Yankees by name, because of Seinfeld and other media which has nothing to do with the sport.

They are just dumb hipsters that live in their own little bubble and believe what they want to believe whether or not it makes sense

No.

There is literally not a single state where hockey is #1, its literally everyone but Missouri, Cali, and the Northeast being football with the first two I listed being baseball and Cali being basketball.

why are soccerfags so hell bent on asking this question. it's not going to happen in our lifetimes, get over it.

Minnesota?

Hockey is big in Minnesota and jock-types will often be Hockey players instead of Football players in High School, but Football is still just as big or bigger overall.

>need to convince blue collar america that soccer is a working class sport in the rest of the world in order for the game to succeed in this country
>sport is co-opted by hipsters and is perceived as eurotrash faggotry
>tfw it will always be this way

>grew up in the south
>raised on muh SEC
>behave like bud light ramsey every saturday
>start watching povertyball
>begin finding it difficult to sit through an entire football game
you really don't notice how many goddamn starts, stops, and commercials there are until you start watching this semen slurping sport
