Which GTA (Grand Theft Auto) game do you think is the best?
Personally I enjoyed IV as it improved the gameplay, graphics and story from its predecessor.

IV (aside from the crappy optimization wtf)

san andreas

San Andreas

It redefined what a game can be

Cheapest bait I've seen for ages, I had to respond

A lot of people say this but I also felt the gameplay was jagged and lacking. Why do you think it was the best?

4 is the best

a mix of SA and V would be great

Seriously. I feel that IV was underrated.

What do you think the perfect mixture of the two would contain?

GTA 2 was my favourite. Obviously it's eclipsed graphically but it was a cool game.

V was waaaay to easy and had kind of a dumb gameplay, rubber band AI etc. graphics was great though.

It should be like V but with a shitload of cheats like SA

GTA V kicked some ass.

I get what you mean. I thought the game mechanics in early GTA titles made certain mission overly difficult but with V I never had this problem as it was overly simplified. A midpoint would be ideal.

Vice city because of the soundtrack. I love me some 80's pop. Flash.FM was my jam

Personally I'd say San Andreas, for many reasons.

The production value was tremendous, with the celeb voice actors, charismatic characters , character arcs, settings.

I'd also say with gameplay, there was so much to do in that game, GTA V I'd say narrowly beats it with content.

One of the things I think San Andreas did great was make such a small map (in today's standards) felt like a living, breathing environment.

That's just my view.

(link unrelated just something funny I found in a thread tonight, kek)

So you liked the overall feel of GTA V but you would like the option to have some wackiness via cheats like some of the older titles?

vice city was great until you left the car. SA was a real improvement there.

I agree with all of the above points but at the same time feel that the limitations of 2004's hardware meant San Andreas wasn't at its full potential as the control system suffered and made actions such as shooting more complicated than it should have been.
e. g. Shooting in San Andreas: R1, left analogue and O.
Shooting in GTA IV: L1

different poster but the shittier gameplay was the charm for it for me. I guess it might be 'cause I grew up on it

San Andreas was the best.

Liberty City has the best theme track next to Vice City

Yeah although San Andreas is an amazing game I feel that people hold it high up because they grew up with it and therefore see it through some rose tinted nostalgia glasses. I say this as someone who has played all of the titles on their original release date.

GTA IV has more open buildings and things to do compared to gta v. GTA V needs an overhaul

will there be a story dlc for V?

I personally like the theme tracks of Vice City, San Andreas and IV as they give you a feel of the games atmosphere before you even play. Vice captured 80s perfectly, San Andreas captured 90s rap culture perfectly and IV captured the essence of the gritty tale of an immigrant trying to make it large in the land of opportunity.

In order, for me it goes

San Andreas > Vice City > GTA IV > GTA V > GTA 3 > PS1 games >Spin offs (liberty city stories etc)

Not confirmed but they'd be pretty dumb if not.

GTA 3 was based god

\thread

I don't think it's likely this time around as the development team is really focusing on the online prospects of the game but that being said if story DLC where to be created you would likely see it at the end if the Base games life cycle.

GTA III suffered greatly from motion blur and jagged gameplay in all aspects of its being. Plus I found the main protagonist Claude to be rather uninteresting. That being said the game does have a few redeeming features such as being the first truly 3d open world experience.

San Andreas for sure!

I think most people who enjoyed vice city was partly cause of the soundtrack. I've heard lots of people say that it was real simple to pass the whole game

That has been heavily modded and unfortunately still doesn't live up to the graphics of it successors.

GTA III and San Andreas.

The soundtrack for this game was a big selling point. I distinctly remember trying to save Lance Vance fromantic Diaz and him dying without fail on the way to the hospital as you can imagine this was a pain in the ass.

What's your reasoning for this and how come you don't enjoy Vice City? Share your opinion.

I totally agree with that as well mate, good point

Thanks mate. For me it was always about the gameplay first and everything else second.

Bump

i think yes. it would be like printing money.

Who cares about graphics? That thing is 12 years old, do you think any of the games you are playing today will look good 12 years from now?
GTA San Andreas was fun as hell and was the last GTA game to come in a full package, no DLC bullshit, no "updates", just an awesome game at the price of a game.
Some of the San Andreas feautures are not even topped by GTA 5, like the diversity of the landscape, the 3 cities, the gangwars to claim back your territories.
Man that game was EPIC back then, and still is in some degree.

The one after part two and before part three, called it Driver and they have just been remaking it with better graphics every five years.

Can someone please eloquently explain in what way Vice City is better than 3, as far as I can see motor bikes??? pretty cool but 60$ for motorbikes was a scam but EVERYONE loves Vice City and disregards 3,
Soundtrack? its not a fuckin musical its a GAME

here are tits for a well articulated reply to ease te genuine tension this causes me in GTA convos with friends

Graphics aren't my main peeve with San andreas. I understand this is a game you are fond of and therefore probably won't see what I'm trying to say but seriously look back at the story of San Andreas and tell me it's well written and thought of when compared to a more realistic story with IV. Also your argument of content is valid although I found it partially tedious with the gang wars become straight up repetitive. Still I respect what you are saying San Andreas was a masterpiece of its time I just don't think it holds up.

I liked 3 better, easier cheat codes, better weapon management, but Vice City had the Scarface theme which was kinda cool, but couldn't make up for the annoying weapon management.

GTA 4

In the best way I can put this GTA Vice City took what III had created and improved upon it with the addition of more vehicles a better selection of music, superior graphics and slightly better gameplay. Just my two cents on the matter. I played every title on its release date.

VICE FUCKING CITY

>introduced using motorcycle/helicopter/airplanes
>KILLER SOUND TRACK
>best story line
>Etc

$60 patch, cool.

Right? 3 showed us the new world, but Vice City showed us what it could do

the were motorcycles and helicopters in gta 1 dude.

San Andreas. Just the dynamic between all cities/parts of the game was enough for me. And it had the best music imo

>south central LA as Los Santos
>countryside
>San Fransisco as San Fierro
>Las Vegas as Las Venturas

I agree GTA3 was a Driver ripoff

GTA V has been available for almost three years now. I think story DLC for it is overdue.

still our favorite fucking music for me and the wife

It does have some of my best child hood memories.

Your statement isn't really well thought out or indeed valid as calling a brand new and improved game a 'patch' is as stupid as saying a remake is the same as a Remaster.

I actually enjoyed V the most. I really felt like the game mechanics were really fun and I enjoyed roaming and doing shit more than the other titles. Not that I didn't immensely enjoy the other ones, too. I played San Andreas and IV a lot.

San Andreas, GTA IV, Vice City, GTA V, GTA III

When I say end of its life cycle I assure I mean the time at which the buzz around the online modes functions wears down.

I find IV to be a better sandbox game as a whole; the driving mechanics (even better with realistic handling mod) and damage is fantastic. The cars were unpredictable in stunts and crashed... I'm sad that this ended with V, since cars can be controlled in car and no longer have that chaos of being a free physical object.

The Euphoria engine was way better in IV, too. V basically turned it into normal ragdoll.

Glad you pointed out that distinctions, don't think anyone ever realized it until now.

None, but then I lost interest in the series when I noticed videogames were, typically, just reskins of the same game with some better bling to keep people thinking it was new. So my opt doesn't rly matter.

Rockstar should be ashamed of GTAV, they spent almost 5 years on a game with an oversized map with almost nothing to do, then spent another 2 years to make doing nothing look pretty. Why can't they look at Bethesda to see how to make a game that has stuff to do in it?

Tommy Vercetti (Day Liotta) could speak
Claude couldn't.

>Get raped

4 for graphics and gameplay. 5 for physics. Vice City for story. San Andreas for fuck-around fun. London for nostalgia.

Ok, introduction of helicopters/motorcycles into a good game.

GTA 1/2/London were novel ideas, but that top down camera killed any fun

Hi original poster here I like yourself have noticed the superior physics and mechanics based in IV and I think you have explained it well here instead of giving a half baked answer. Well done.

Why is nobody repping the original GTA games?
They were all fucking badass and at the time being able to murder at will and steal cars and shit in a game were well ahead of anything you could do gamewise.

>I think more dlc should be available
>I want to buy the same guy over and over

I agree to a point I feel that the top down camera angle gave a different kind of fun as it altered the way you play. It was really different and a result of its time.

Trips and I shove this cheeseburger up my ass

>inb4 OP wont deliver
>inb4 thats not a cheeseburger its a mcdouble
>inb4 OP is a faggot

OP.WILL.DELIVER.

To be fair on Rockstar they have done an excellent job of supporting GTA Vice with regular free game changing updates. Hey there not story DLC but they should help keep you entertained until the next title is released.

I played both 1 and 2 during their release and the graphics were shitty and outdated even back then, GTA 2 was attempting to compete with other PS2 games like Driver.

Not OP XD

>improved gamplay
Cars controlled like shit. auto target was ass, and the weapons were meh at best.
>graphics
Sure if you like dull and boring.
>story
Meh

no, im saying vice city is to gta3 what fifa 16 is to fifa 17 and people ate it up.

The story was on par with the campy and cartoonish feel of the serie.
By the way Officer Tempenny (voiced by Samuel mudafukka L. Jackson) was a pretty grim and dark character.
But think about this: GTA V came out with an update to add lowriders, while lowriders were in from day one in San Andreas.
And the money making ways? Apartment robbery, gambling at the casino, the horse races, that game was the very apex of the CONTENT delivery.
Can't have anything like that today (apart from The Witcher 3, that is huge and full of wonders).

I agree

GTA 4. The civilians could take a few body shots and were fun to watch squirm while critically injured.

My nigga

>Style, atmosphere, Music, Humor
Vice City

>Mechanics, customisation
San Andreas

>Story, City atmosphere, mission design
IV

>Multiplayer
V

Best GTA ever

I agree for the most part except I would probably give mechanics to either IV or V as they where more accessible and smoother to handle.

GTA1>Best nostalgia
GTA2>best soundtrack / humour
GTA3>nostalgia hit with that sexy motion blur on ps2 and intro. Feeling of true freedom
GTA4>true gritty NY feeling, legit better camera, reflections, color, and drifting driving mechanics felt organic - check out convertable doing smoke trails verse gta V and youl know.
GTA5>arcade bullshit, washed down character progression, unemphatic story, superior multiplayer

Driver III

Would you hope they could start with opening the casino and racetrack so you can gamble and bet on, if not race, horses in GTA V?

Hi Original poster here and couldn't have said it better myself. This envisions my thoughts exactly.

At some point they will, it's all already there.
But they probably will add the feautures for multiplayer only so ... fuck them.

putting the grandfather of gaming revolution GTA3 last.

Just neckyouself

** although I would add additional commentary to depict thoughts on Vice city and San Andreas.

Not really, they had a stock market that you could earn a lot from but there was nothing to spend the money on and the game ended so quick that it made the money pointless. I can't see a reason to add gambling to a dead game.

it was a 2003 game man.

has to be San Andreas, had great memories. Anyone else still plays SA;MP?

Each one is better than the last. V is best

IV was the worst GTA

no even before driver there was a game called body harvest on the n64

The problem with things like this is the studio will only add the feature if the demand for it is high enough. Although it may seem like the feature would be simple to add the coding process is tedious. I can personally confirm this.

San Andreas
