Killing Joke is better than your favorite band

IT'S LIT

there's been a few great bands who've been taking a lot of cues from the 80s 4AD/mute etc. goth stuff while combining it with other shit, but all the "pure" goth bands of the 00s and 10s have been derivative pastiche shit

the few great bands in question:

Good bait - I almost fell for it honestly.

"Goth" bands today are awful but there are tons of good bands that show a clear influence by 80s goth.

See

Metalcore is my guilty pleasure it's at the very least the modern goth music

Raspberry Bulbs and Drab Majesty are brilliant live.
I was at this show, it was immense.

Lust for Youth.

brazilian goth punk band. Any brazilians here got a link to the album?

voltaire is pretty cute

Malice Mizer, especially their early stuff.

yeah
their last album is great too, it really nails this gothic era-type grandeur, basically what i had initially wanted from goth music, before i was familiar with its roots. havent found anything else that lived up to that

>user can't even spell
Fuck you bitch

no

Yeah, both memoire and bara no seidou are great.
I still think the tetsu era is the most pure gothic one (and it's a kind of goth that's still experimental and very personal), but Bara no seidou is full on gothic.
They actually went back to the twin guitars sounding like synchronized harpsichords that they used in memoire, and which were dropped during the Gackt era (except for a few songs that they revamped from tetsu era, like Shi no buto or tsuioku no kakera), and Bel Air on merveilles, but in Bara no seidou they brought it back in tracks like Shiroi or Bara ni irodorareta, not to mention the new version of their classic Kioku to sora (which was only performed live)

Is there any band that does the melancholic-but-upbeat thing as well as the Cure?

This song makes me feel on so many levels, it's so simple but perfect.
