Welcome to the first edition of Nothing but Black Metal December.

In these threads, we listen to and discuss the objectively best genre of music, namely black metal.

This edition is kindly sponsored by Hat from Gorgoroth fame.

Hope you hate your stay.

Good first choice for an album.

I was rewatching my dvd of UTLTU last night, I hate the parts with Frost so much.

What albums sound like A Blaze in the Northern Sky? Especially the drum sound

hey, same here
although I watched the last 20 minutes or so today

not doing exclusively black metal, but if these threads last i'll gladly post in them

Got a link to this. I cant read the last few letters of the first word

necromantic worship

i'm still saying december should be doom. december/doom... come on guys

No.

it should be dungeon synth, sounds fit for xmas

I would agree if it weren't for the fact that there aren't a great deal of bands that can be considered great in the genre, much less a continuous flow of them that desereve an entire month of threads dedicated to talking about them.

Doom Metal is for stoners

>nbbmn ends
>what do??
>makes nbbmd

I'm not sure why we need these threads to have decent discussion about the genre. That was the only reason I even visited nbbmn. There was some people recommending a black metal general. Regardless of whether or not it lasts, it makes more sense than "nothing but black metal (insert month name)."

On topic: youtube.com/watch?v=SmdqFygVNsk
Tormentor, aka possibly the cultest band to ever come out of eastern Europe, playing live in 1986. Yes, that's Attila without corpse paint.

agree about the general
disagree about the attila

>implying

>>nbbmn ends
>>what do??
>>makes nbbmd
That's basically metal in a nutshell, so I think we should run with it.

I'm really digging these guys, but I suppose they're not trve cvlt.

doom metal is even worse a genre than black metal

this thread is retarded

...

For some reason I never saw the appeal for Wolves in the Throne Room. Not even in an attempt to stay kvlt or anything, but they are just pretty bland and uninteresting for the most part. Two Hunters was pretty good but nothing spectacular.
/blackmetal/ should be the thread name from now on. I doubt many people would be too interesting in doing another month of nothing but black metal. But if these threads survive I'll gladly post in them.

Who the fuck cares if they're kvlt or not

WITTR are untrue garbage
equal emphasis on both words

>cvlt

Found the poser.

>@69445392
top kek

who /illegals $lamz/ here?

That video is nuts.

I met Attila in June, talked one on one for about 10 minutes.

@69445467
Never give (You)s to people undeserving of them.

is there a nothing but black metal january?

I'm actually jealous damn it. One of my band mates told me about meeting him and talking about Sisters of Mercy with him.

This is my point. Call the threads /blackmetal/. Not all generals go every day all the time but at least it gives people a thread for actual discussion outside of the /metal/, which has become an absolute meme.

Does anyone else like Jilemnický Okultista from Master's Hammer? I've been listening to it for a few years now, but man, it still strikes me as some of the most avant-garde/experimental black metal there is. Not to mention, the fucking riffs! What are some more bands that are somewhat akin to this sound? I'm already familiar with Malokarpatan. Check them out if you haven't: malokarpatan.bandcamp.com/releases

In the Shadow of the Horns is the best track
Debate me

Master's Hammer is a very, very fine black metal band. Perhaps check this one out: metal-archives.com/bands/Root/889

You went with the plebbiest track. Not surprising.

you're right user

I feel like an idiot. I should have said I'm familiar with most known Czech bands: Master's Hammer, Root, Drakar, Tudor, Törr.
Do you know anything about Lugubrum from Belgium? It showed up in the related artists and my curiosity peaked.

This is for you, fellow user
youtube.com/watch?v=ZP918MhVRTY

Lugubrum is really hit and miss in my opinion, depending on the album. Pretty experimental band, definitely check them out if you're looking to somewhat broaden your horizons, for better or worse.

>plebbiest track
lol okay

Any album you can particularly recommend? Cheers and thanx

Anytime.

Katharsis?

pic related is one of my favorite black metal albums can I get some recs

...

Someone posted this in one of the last /nbbmn/ threads and I've had it stuck in my head since.

Anyone else like Panopticon?

That's not Where Cold Winds Blow

New Ash Borer fucking rules. Check that shit

>don't have to go back to /meal/ for a month
Feels so good to be a blackie.

finally

...

Who here likes ildjarn? Coming from a hardcore background that and havohej are probably my favourite BM projects.
youtube.com/watch?v=mIo-9Yz84OQ

What are you listening to? Comfiest winter album imo

Could anyone reccomend any modern black metal albums that are very badly recorded, in a kvlt manner?

we need the gimmick because people won't consistently make threads without it. the "nothing but this" thing makes it a community game and gets new people involved. just having a /blackmetal/ general doesn't have that same...sense of fun

Is De Mysteriis the ultimate 2nd-wave BM experience?

Yes. You aren't a real Mayhem fan if you don't follow through with the rest of the discography though.

yes but I think Roads to the North is better

Why? It isn't as good

I used to think that, but then I listened to those albums until I finslly understood they're actually the result of a band maturing and progressing in full force. Little else is similar to albums such as Grand Declaration or Ordo ad Chao. They're some of my favorite releases now.

Wouldn't it just be better if BM had a seperate thread from now? I'll never get tired of this genre i swear

swear on your mom

i swear on me mum mate

R I F F S

Isn't Under the Sign of Hell the better Gorgoroth album?

Gorgoroth are the ultimate missing-the-point/10 band and all of their albums are shit

Out of the big names in the norwegian scene:

Burzum > Darkthrone > Mayhem

This is irrefutable. Mayhem are fucking overrated.

Switch Darkthrone and Burzum and you're completely correct.

this

Agreed

I'll check your digits but I think that Varg accomplished and perfected everything that Fenriz ever intended to on the s/t album.

wdhmbt

panopticon

roads to the north

can't stop listening to the

good post

excuse me?

Best thing Panopticon has done desu

>Isn't Under the Sign of Hell the best Gorgoroth album?
yes

u realize this thread wont exist by christmas right?

This thread barely exists right now

It's because it's Dungeon Synth December. The people demand moody ds.

Got three new records today. I am so fucking ecstatic that they had Forgotten Legends

I'll agree with that but then again I think Mayhem are fucking awful, I want to like them as much as people say I "should" but they're just not good at all.

>they're just not good at all

>last track is the longest
>it's the title track
>it's also the best

So how long have you been listening to black metal for now? About a month?

I listened to it this November and the November before.

Lugubrum has two stages:

1- Drunken farmer blak mettle that's filthy, grim and dark, but catchy and imaginative and has a strong pig-fucker-countryside-inbred vibe to it.

1- Drunken experimentalist who's too wasted to make regular black metal so he goes on a fantastic tangent that encompasses jazz and world music

Both are fantastic, but I think 's recommendaiton (De Vette Cuecken) is an excelent midpoint between sides 1 and 2 of the band.

Mayhem ARE overrated.

They're still godly, though.

So two months total? Sounds about right for that opinion.

I agree to an extent. I've never been able to really get into them. Hellhammer, Faust, and even Necro are all pretty detestable people. Just watch any Mayhem doc on Youtube or of course UTLTU where hellhammer literally boasts about how proud he is of Faust for "killing some fucking faggot". Seriously you scumbag?

Attila, Euro, and Dead are the champions of that band.

>What are some more bands that are somewhat akin to this sound?
Not quite as extreme in bpm nor electronic elements, but maybe try Celtic Frost's Into The Pandemonium

If you like Master's Hammer's demos then you should try Mortuary Drape

>Euro
>champion of anything other than being a parody of the white powah edgelord who's secretly into butt stuff and plans to kill someone out of envy that they're getting more attention than them

That's, like, the third alt cover for Forgotten Legends I've seen so far.

I prefer this series, even over the originals, to be quite honest with ya m8

>Attila, Euro, and Dead are the champions of that band.
>Defends Euronymous
>Doesn't include Snorre on that list
You're the reason a solely bm general will fail.

Varg thinks Snorre is insane or something, is there any truth to that?

I think he meant like, deviant. Like he was way too into the idea of Varg attacking Euronymous, if that phone call anecdote is to be believed.

Then again Thorns is one weird album on its own right

Euronymous invented the core of second wave BM riffing.

History is written by the victors, who gives a shit what he believed, musicians are very, very imperfect people. Varg worship needs to stop, he's an amazing musician and that's about where it fucking ends. Stop sucking the dudes dick.

black metal until the solstice and then its neo folk

back off. /nbbmd/ are proud defenders of eurynomous the martyr of black metal

Melodeath fan here who's getting into melodic black metal. Discovered some pretty good music along the way--particularly Dissection and Naglfar--but I'm looking for something more.

I fell in love with pretty much the most well-known melodic BM song there is, Dissection's The Somberlain. Can anyone recommend me more along those lines--slowish, melodic BM, maybe with even more intricate melodies?

Video related because, holy fuck. Exactly what I'm looking for:

youtu.be/5ZGpK1wXJjc?t=3m

Nothing else exactly like it really exists, I think the closest you are going to get is Vinterland.

That's a shame. I'll check them out.

Youtube is full of one-man atmospheric BM projects, but I haven't found any I can really get into for some reason.

I've found plenty of fast and energetic melodic black metal--Naglfar after their first two albums might as well be Mors Principium Est's angry church-burning cousin (video related)--but really nothing that matches the slow intricate sound of that one particular song. Even most other Dissection isn't really that good.
