>What are you working on?
>What have you worked on/what can you show us?
>What stories can you share with us?

I pumped out 40 pages on a binge yesterday, cut about 10 in the first editing pass, haven't quite fixed the holes left yet though.

When you guys write, do you prefer just to crank pages out and edit the whole screenplay when it's "complete", or edit as you go along?

Where do I start if I'm interested in filmmaking?

Pick up a camera and start shooting.

I'm serious though, with the relative cheapness of DSLRs, you can get a pretty nice refurbished one fit for almost any budget. Gather some friends, or go the stop-motion route and make your own, shoot some shorts, get hands-on experience, but remember, the most important thing is to start shooting.

Don't faggot. OP is wasting his time no need to waste yours too.

Want to write and direct an indie film in the vein of Larry Clark's Bully, except it isn't based on a true story.

About a school shooting, right? How's that coming along?

Storyboarding always helps

>finished filming a short thriller about a gang doctor last year, still related
>successfully raised 11k on kickstarter for it, put in another 4k out of my own funds
>applying to major festivals because thats the only place were actual studio talent scouts are
>literally rejected from every festival i've applied to
>a few days ago got a review from Cleveland International Film Festival
>they loved it
>still didn't get in
Whose dick do I have to suck? What the fuck, man.

do you have anything on youtube?

Not from that short.

Thats the fucked up thing too, you literally can't put any footage up anywhere because then it counts as a "premiere" and you get disqualified from most of the festivals.

What did you shoot it on?

I've got an idea for a short film that revolves around a haunted vinyl record that summons a zombie punk band, who then kill people and play a show. I'm planning on a decapitation and eye stabbings, if anyone want to suggest any cheap possibly music related kills I can do on a nonexistent budget then I'd appreciate it

Congrats on raising so much money for your project, and more importantly, finishing!

This sucks to say, but did you look at smaller festivals as well? Less prestigious, less scouts, but a good way to start getting your name out there in a preliminary sense. Hell, this sucks even more, but could you make a cheaper budget short, submit that one to the smaller festivals, and then save what looks like a very-well shot short for later after you kill it at the smaller deals?

Made this using an shitty app
youtu.be/sGXn3GsE8eU
I also made some stop motion shorts, 2 actual love action films (one as an actor and one as director, but I wasn't the one who wrote the script so I am not fond of it), i am currently working on a documentary about teachers.
R8 my shortie tho youtu.be/sGXn3GsE8eU

Yeah I'm that guy from the other thread. No progress yet but I'd like to have a fleshed out outline to get started. Right now all I've got is the logline.

that's too bad man. but don't give up! You made something! you should be proud.

can I get Emma's number?

>choke someone out with an XLR cable/guitar string
>drum sticks sharpened into shivs
>a thrown cymbal?
Cool concept, and that's all I could personally come up with for low budget music murder.

I think I just lost some brain cells watching that

Some people consider beat sheets, especially that StC one, to be evil and rigid, but they can be very useful guideline tools for starting outlines and controlling the pace.

y-you too

Save the Cat is very polarizing but I've found it pretty useful. But the "Last Book on Screenwriting" subtitle should definitely be stricken out though. It's useful but not that useful.

>love action
So you made stuff for YouPorn?

Thanks, I'll see if i can incorporate those possibly, I'm already planning on someone being stabbed in the eyes with drumsticks, and probably a decapitation and a stabbing with a guitar, but thats all really. if i can get enough ideas then i might include a murder montage type thing before the show

Fug meant to type live action.

4K output with a Sony A7S. Looked incredible. I used 3 different lenses. 55f14, 16-35f28 & 70-200f4.

Had a crew of 10 people, my AD is holding the slate here.

Thanks. The only "smaller" festival I applied to was LA Film Fest. I was thinking about checking out other festivals from film freeway, but lets be real here, if its not on withoutabox, it's pretty unlikely to have much attention to begin with.

I'm actually looking for raising funds for a feature now, so unless I can find big pockets through my short, I don't have much faith the b-tier festivals can help me out.

wut

>4K output with a Sony A7S
Very nice, keeping my eye on a GH4 and an Atomos Assassin for mid budget, but respectable, 4K.

>I'm actually looking for raising funds for a feature now
Ah, OK, I can understand why you were aiming high then.

Well, it's cool to see someone in /fmg/ with a production crew and a finished work.

>Well, it's cool to see someone in /fmg/ with a production crew and a finished work.

Hey! I've almost finished my new short, it just needs a couple more shots
And I don't want to be linked to Sup Forums incase it blacklists me in 5 years time

She's a qt

>selling my dad's old light meters on ebay

Not getting much interest desu, the Minolta Autometer IVf has £23 on it but I've set the reserve for £100 hoping it gets near that.

>Spectra Professional Model P-251 has TWO views

Good job! And honestly, I'm not sure about the whole "blacklisting" thing. Plenty of comic creators post on Sup Forums, and pretty well known musicians have publicly posted on Sup Forums. It doesn't seem like too much of a career killer, unless you do something like the moron from DIIV did.

>unless you do something like the moron from DIIV did.
storytime?

I'm writing a crime comedy

I found I got a lot more done when I actually started writing it instead of shitposting on Sup Forums, which is how I usually spend my free time.

he was asked to rate female singers based on looks and he did, plus he used the usual Sup Forums terminology (nigger, etc.) which obviously looks bad out of context.

pitchfork.com/news/57837-diivs-devin-ruben-perez-under-fire-for-sexist-racist-homophobic-remarks-on-Sup Forums/

used racial slurs and people found out because he was a retard and used a tripcode

if you're famous and want to post here, just do it anonymously. Even if you reveal yourself and use a timestamp, as long as you don't use a traceable tripcode and say a bunch of stupid shit you're golden

Here's the tragic story of Devin-chan, at least how I remember it.
>be in semi-"popular" indie rock band
>shit post on Sup Forums
>decide to become a namefag/tripfag(?)
>say a bunch of inappropriate shit for (you)s
>get caught by tumblr
>gets roasted by his frontman on twitter

And that's basically the end, Rode out some bad internet times, but still in his band.

So the important lesson here is don't trip. You'll be fine.

Jesus Christ what a moron lol. Good for that edgy faggot.

Guitars make for good bats, as do mic stands.

Could crush someone's head with an amp, maybe.

/p/

I started an /swg/ about my 80's-inspired screenplay, got some good advice from that. Once I get a first draft down I'm gonna hammer out some storyboards with a buddy of mine. This is the second time I've had free-reign over a project and the first I've had with no restrictions, so I'm going all out. Only issue is I wrote one of my main characters as a 40-year-old man, and I don't know anyone who'd fit the bill.

I've never done anything with actual lights before though, does anyone know how to do good lighting in urban areas (say, streets and abandoned warehouses?)

That tends to be how it works, yeah.

Also, prepare for endless complaints of ripping off Tarantino.

I'm english so it'd probably be guy ritchie instead

im going to use a guitar as a bat for the decapitation but that amp thing is a pretty good idea, thanks

Fair enough.

What's it about?

I want to make a short but I don't want to use my DSLR... But it would be mostly shot in wet/swampy areas so I don't want to break someone else's shit if I try renting or borrowing something better :(

General jist is:

Man gets killed in his house, the subsequent scenes are an interrogation of a witness/suspect.

I just can't think of a plot progression that doesn't so closely resemble The Usual Suspects, and my lack of creativity (or rather simply, originality) is pissing me off, especially seeing as I'm always striving to be original.

I haven't given it enough thorough thought, I guess. I'll get there eventually.

I'm English and people compared a film I made to Tarantino based solely on the font used for the title
it was a slow psychological drama with a classical music score

Godspeed senpai.

Which font?

Also I'm shamelessly stealing the John Carpenter font (Albertus) for my short.

So I'm going to shoot a feature with my GF this summer and I'm wondering that should I just shoot some shit between so I don't get "rusty" etc?

Working on two shorts and I thought you guys could help me decide which concept is better.

A 16 year old klepto that pinches a bag from the wrong person

Or

After a few failed suicide attempts a man finds the will to live after seeing a woman in a cafe.

Honestly I wanna make them so I can transfer out to one of the film schools and just wondering what you guys prefer and which you think would be a better entry.

just checked
it's called edwardian script
i was going for a whole gothic feel

ripping off other directors for early short films is totally fine since shorts are for learning and honing your craft

I personally would like to see the klepto one but film schools eat suicides up.

>When you guys write, do you prefer just to crank pages out and edit the whole screenplay when it's "complete", or edit as you go along?
If I'm lucky I'll have a good run of writing for the day, then the next day I'll reread it and edit whatever big mistakes I see then continue. Then at the end I do a few more editing passes.

Second could be better if it's sincere in the writing.

First feels like it'd be better for the plotbabbies out there.

Ah, cool.

And yeah, thanks for that. I'm excited to start making this, but nervous since I'm just playing this all by ear.

Yeah me too seems like the klepto has more range, and can be more varied in location. The second one I just envisioned it near basically this local college, a cafe, and an apartment. Well I wrote a monologue for the beginning it's not to bad.

Honestly I'll work on both of them and when the next one of these threads pops up I'll post it.

What went wrong?

I been waiting all week for one of these.
How do I get Dinsey's permission to use a scene from The Lion King?
I really need it, it's what's going to bring my movie together.

You might try just e-mailing them, that's the best I can think of.

Just screened this at a local film festival. It's a film about two people with only 10 minutes left to live. I need some feedback on it bros:

youtube.com/watch?v=j0lKN9Pfuyo

Does Walt Disney Studios even have an email?

Just finished my internship and now I'm kinda fucking around before I start applying to other places. I'd like to get a job at an editing house and then work my way up to actual filmmaking from there.

Would I be wasting my time if I went to places like Rawlings or Atlanta or New Orleans? I guess there's "growing" film industries there but I don't know if it would be worth it, and there's no way I can afford to live in NY

[email protected]

How do I receive funding for my movie? I can't find a job.

Shop it around to investors. IIRC guy ritchie got funding for Lock Stock by just shopping it around to rich business owners in the city. Or I guess you can beg and grovel on kickstarter or indiegogo or something

Just fucking use the scene dude. Where do you plan on showing your movie?

New York City. What do you mean "use the scene"?

drive.google.com/open?id=0B9ctvuy2ZREzOUp5YkVtZGVwYWs

cut a parkour video with some stock footage i bought, not particularly happy with it but practice is practice

The scene you want to use, just go ahead and use it

>tfw stuck in reality forever

What did my fellow filmmakers think of The Witch? On a kick with being mad about this movie and want to get others perspectives on it.

At a theatre or a film festival or private screening or what?

I haven't seen it yet. What didn't you like about it?

What the fuck are you even talking about? I was asking how to get funding.

Nigga???

I thought it was beautifully shot but wasn't a fan of the story or characters. Just feels like a long, albeit pretty slog.

is it possible to over use match cutting in a scene

nothing, what issues do you have with it?

I'm getting one of these soon, i'll start shooting a short with a friend when i get it, just some nice shots and no narrative
i've been rewatching some essay films (Mekas, Akerman, JGL, Erice, JLG and Marker) as well as experimental shorts from Anger and Brakhage to Zwartjes and Bokanowski

i'm still pretty scared that i won't like what comes out of it, i'll be shooting for two months on a daily basis

any tips guys?

You'll really like the shooting process, and then when you go to edit it you'll fucking hate everything and wish it never existed until you finish the sound/music because it ties everything together

Make the movie for free. Use your phone to shoot it. You don't need to spend money, especially if you haven't made many films before.

If you really can't find a job, start your own business. Sell shit door-to-door. Paint houses. Food cart. Etc.

i don't like the music, at all
the production seems very cheap
sound effects are crappy as well
have more criticism but i don't know if it's serious
the best that i can hope is that you're making fun of these tropes, if not, then in my opinion it's really bad

Listen, bud. I'm a perfectionist and 100% suicidal.
Mediocrity just won't cut it.

The film is playful but begs to be taken seriously. If you have more to say, please tell me. I need all the criticism I can get. Detailed criticism, like why is it crappy? Don't worry about hurting my feelings. I'm trying to become a better filmmaker. Lay it on me.

Thank you a lot, i was thinking of maybe getting someone to help me edit, as my only previous editing works were for school stuff or youtube shit
what music would you recommend using?
of course asking is very stupid because you can't see the what i'm imagining the film will be
but tell me what music you picture when you see pic related

this sums up the edit pretty well

youtube.com/watch?v=Z2EyVjmJo8I

This might be the worst thing I've ever seen.

anyone know any sites similar to editstock?

Yes but WHY? This is your chance to let all your frustrations out. Don't sugar-coat it.

>tfw just want to make kino but no help and no car
I just want to be the new John Carpenter/Robert Rodriguez/Shane Carruth. Is that really too much to ask for desu senpai

work on being mediocre first, then worry about getting good

seems like you didn't put too much effort on searching for the right sound effects
the bible chapter at the beginning is in my opinion, overused and cheesy
i feel like that drake instrumental doesn't go with the film's vibe at all
that "He is not far from us" edited in the shot looks really bad, that's when i thought it was a parody
that cutting to static before showing the next footage looks really stupid, you may have to watch more movies and see how you can edit two pieces of footage to go along with each other
that tv comet watching scene was ok, except for the overused arab music and the screams that follow
also why not use a tripod?
that scene where it cuts back and forth with the girl and the "devil" (idk if that's supposed to be the devil) i think worked better on your head, because translated to the film it just looks amateurish and while i may sound super snobby, extremely american-like
the jesus imagery and classic music in the back
just makes the scene feel forced, like you were trying to hard to copy other scenes and take elements from them
don't fade to black!
That Welcome home daddy still really is the worst part of the short, doesn't go well with the rest because it was not shot like that, the image it portrays is the contrary of shocking and looks something out of a appeal to emotion 101 textbook

the credit part was a spit in the face to tark

youtu.be/ZsgjQDQHTCY?t=1387

I don't know if this will work so if it doesn't go to 23:06

Thank you very much kind user
scared to be quite honest with you, but whatever you make is good for a start
thanks for the vid

Your short isn't good enough to make me frustrated, you showed no potential.
I'm more frustrated that people aren't responding to my posts.
Actually criticizing means I gotta do work and explain, but I'll help you.

Like the other guy said, the music is horrible and out of place.
You can't just put a song into a movie because you like it.
The camera movement is horrible, too shaky. And the visuals in general are ugly.
If the short is about people finding out they only have 10 minutes left to live, then why is it only 4 minutes?
The Bible quote is pretentious. Main guy is an edgy faggot, did he just kidnap that girl? She barely showed resistance.
They find out they have 10 minutes left to live from an alarm?
Showing actual suffering is tacky and tasteless, especially since this is supposed to be about the man and woman.
I have no idea what the fuck is actually happening in this short. What's with the gunshot sounds?
Why is there blank paper in his wallet? What's the point of showing a still image of space? You don't see an asteroid coming.
What's happening after he proposes? Is that supposed to be the Devil? Seriously, man, what the fuck is going on and how are we supposed to know?
What's the significance of the characters not speaking? And the red fade in is ugly.

just take it a shot at a time, the assembly is gonna look like shit but once you have a structure it's easier to figure things out.

looks like it was made in the early 90s

>that cutting to static before showing the next footage looks really stupid
Not saying you're wrong, but why do you say this?

>the jesus imagery and classic music in the back just makes the scene feel forced, like you were trying to hard to copy other scenes
Like copy which other scenes? Why is it "forced"?

>the credit part was a spit in the face to tark
The first and last shot pay homage to Tarkovsky. I feel when that generation of filmmakers died, they passed the baton onto me, and now I can't let them down.

>I feel when that generation of filmmakers died, they passed the baton onto me, and now I can't let them down.
is this b8

>The first and last shot pay homage to Tarkovsky. I feel when that generation of filmmakers died, they passed the baton onto me, and now I can't let them down.

c'mon Tom

I write notes down and try to build the world during blank spaces at my job.
For me a good day when it comes to writing is like 5 pages. So congrats on the 40. That's some John Hughes level of cranking it.
