Was watching some season 1 the other day, the episode where Schillinger says how it would be nice if his sons went and had some fun with Beecher's wife and daughter. That shit was dark and cool to watch.
The show was just a mess though. Too much of that narration bullcrap and not enough grit.

Thats the point, theyre showing that no matter how much money and time is put into rehabilitation it wont work. The whole show revolves around the fight to keep the programs in place and the inevitable shitstorms that are created by the prisoners because of it.
The finale of season 1 shows it best.

Oz is extremely hit or miss but it gets a pass for being so pioneering. The show had some of the greatest characters I've seen on tv but I think you can tell by season four that the sopranos had taken a lot of wind out of their sails.
