Anyone else finding themselves not enjoying hip-hop anymore?

Anyone else finding themselves not enjoying hip-hop anymore?

I haven't liked a single release this year and I've entirely lost interest in most of the stuff in my library.

Yeah it's called graduating high school.

It's because it's full of shit subject matter like BLM, "muh-richboy blues", or "look how wacky and experimental i am xD".

Hip Hop has been dead for a while.

My tastes generally shift to specific things for a while. I was really into hip-hop through 2015, which was a really good year for it, these days not so much. This year I've been kinda all over the place, but I haven't really been into a lot of newer stuff. It's odd. There's not really a new thing that's been able to captivate me for a long time recently, which is kinda sad.

this, and this.
You'd pretty much have to be borderline retarded to listen to any modern hiphop.

Same happened here,I can only listen to atmospheres now.
Basically hip hop is becoming a meme day by day

Yeah. It's called growing up. If you're still listening to rap past high school, you are a child.

Dude, hip hop has always had lyrics about black empowerment. If it took you until BLM to realize that hip hop contained a pro-black message, you're fucking retarded or delusional.

There was definitely at least a decade (hip-hop's most popular decade, too) where that was rare enough to be ignored, though, especially in the "mainstream"

The problem is BLM is misguided. Any attempt at "insightful" lyrics is laughable when the movement is so disconnected with the actual reality of the black struggle in the USA.

Actually, if anything BLM will make things worse for black communities.

Agreed.
Wrong.

That's because most releases this year sucked.

Hip hop is good when it's good. 2011 spoiled us, also if you became a hip hop fan post 2010 you're likely a memer who just is hopping off the bandwagon.

At the beginning of the decade we had Odd Future's initial releases, ASAP's first mixtape, which is still good, Kendrick's GKMC, MBDTF, Drake if you're into him, Danny Brown's XXX, Clams Casino's beat tapes, Flockaveli, a bunch of Gucci tapes, SGP (huge innovator that did vaporwave before it was cool, and what it actually is; chopped and screwed), LUM if you're into him, Metro Zu, and more that I'm sure I missed (no, not other TDE releases, they're overrated too.)

The best of this decade was at the beginning. We've stagnated into generic trap (due to Flocka and Gucci's massive influence) and hipster trap bullshit, with only a few good newcomers.

Literally every rapper and release you named is a meme

The only good hip-hop is instrumental hip-hop/plunderphonics

Prove me wrong

Such insight. Metro Zu (multiple rappers)? SGP? Nah.

I bet, if you like rappers, you're an MF Doom fan

What the fuck are you talking about?

>SGP
>not a meme
alright now you're just fucking with me
and no doom sucks

first post best post

?

awful

...

>SGP
>having more than 1000 fans

You're trying too hard

this is hilarious if you read their lyrics and know how untrue it is

its because all the releases sucked. trust me im a big hip hop head.

Underrated

nothing good has been released this year
Just a bunch of twitter/vine/soundcloud rappers shitting out tons of releases hoping one sticks

Wow I'm so surprised. The discussion already took a political turn.

Hip-Hop just had a peak. We got spoiled with amazing albums in the past couple of years. Now we're in a degenerative/derivative phase. Hip-hop is gonna suck for a couple of years because it has to be dumbed down for the mainstream audience. It happens to EVERY genres. It's just a cycle. But I guess it's hard to tell when you have less than two decades in you. It has nothing to do with political issues.

It's called growing up. Hip hop is often about shallow bullshit or being a shitty person. It gets old real quick when you move into adulthood.

As you get older you realize it's just a fad that you may have been participating in to appeal to someone who liked it before you.

Disregarding politics - Hip hop is boring music. Mid tempo bullshit with no real edge or intensity. It's the background noise of an American city.
I used to be into the stuff but honestly if you want to do something real it's not the right genre to work with.

your post makes it sound like you listen to metal

so what if i do? at least metal musicians have to study their craft as opposed to mumbling lyrics about pussy and drugs

Last guy is not me jej
I'm mostly into electronic music. Lot of corny metal out there.

Black Beatles was great.

Broccoli was pretty good too.

We The People- ATCQ
Really Doe- Danny Brown
Rings- Aesop Rock
Come and See Me- PARTYNEXTDOOR
Pick Up The Phone- Travis Scott, Young Thug
