This Brötzmann thing is quite good

the Thing did a collaboration with The DKV trio, who I was pretty unfamiliar with aside from drummer Hamid Drake's work. It's recorded from a concert in Poland two years ago, Gustafsson plays tenor and baritone and vandermark is on bass clarinet and tenor. I think the double trio format made an interesting dynamic. I enjoyed it a lot more than She Sleeps she sleeps, and ritual, which I was both looking forward to and was disappointed.

That album was fucking awful

...

Yo anyone check out this lil boy?

I've never heard any Afro-centric jazz that was any good at all. Should is still give this a try?

Yeah, it's awesome. There's a nice mix of influences on it - funky tracks, more brooding spiritual tracks, etc. "Rhapsody In Berlin" is probably one of my favorite songs from this year

Yea, also the group was most important in the 70s, if that's any sort of proof that their music is enduring

>Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane & Matthew Garrison - In Movement
what is ECM bullshit
>Wacław Zimpel - Lines
what is overrated post-/minimalism in a Stetson way. you might as well say last Anenon record is a jazz record.
>Supersilent - 13
Supersilent never were a jazz band anyway, this is free improv based on eai
>Travis Laplante & Peter Evans - Secret Meeting
this is good, still more of a free improv record. but it is really good. Evans solo trumpet is mindblowing on its own (see Lifeblood). Laplante is playing supporting role in here, and sometimes he gets boring, but Evans keeps it interesting throughout.
>jazz
what it jazz rock with a bit of improv
>Roland Dahinden / Hildegard Kleeb – Stones
underwhelming af. as usual with HatHut we have either amazing records or just plain boring one. this falls under 2nd category.
>Ellery Eskelin – Trio Willisau - Live
this falls under 1st one though. it's a quality post-bop record. yet it's recorded live, so of course some parts of it improvised.
well duh
didn't listen this and your previews didn't make me want to really
>heavy psych mixed with Brotzmann's squeaks
cheesiest shit ever, seriously.
it's alrite. nothing much to say about it.
i did. i don't think blue note released something really good in last 5 or even 10 years if not more. this is just harmless jazzy compositions you'd hear on some radio or maybe hallmark tv. it's pleasant but useless. in my opinion of course.

2016 was quite a bullshit for jazz tbqh, because pic related is probably best thing to come out this year, but it's also not amazing. just good, solid record. ugh.

Do you have RYM or a list over things you like? You seem to know what you like.

Joachim Kühn - Beauty & truth
Thierry Maillard - Il canto delle montagne
Moutin factory quintet - Deep

Mauro Gagano - Suite for battling Siki
Joëlle Léandre - Can you hear me ?
