I'm currently learning Spanish and need some motivation.
What I really like is sci-fi and fantasy, though I doubt there are any films in that category in Spanish. So I guess if you could recommend a few light hearted films or even tv-shows I'd greatly appreciate it. Comedies, family films or cartoons, anything as long as it's not too dark, I'm really not in the mood for an existensial crisis.
No, I readily accept any Spanish speaking film, I'm cool with Latin American ones too.

boasting and patronizing are found in people with low self esteem and childike behaviours
Julian James
I just have low self-esteem. Why are you being so mean? The movies I listed are part of the film canon, all I wanted to do was help op.

Anything Alex de la Iglesia has made should be right up your alley. A lot of comedy mixed with crime, tragedy and sometimes the supernatural.
El Dia de la Bestia (Day of the Beast) Las Brujas de Zugurramundi (Witching and Bitching) This one's on Netflix Balada Triste de Trompeta (Last Circus) Crimen Ferpecto
He has one in ENglis with Elijah Wood, Oxford Crimes haven't seen that one so cant vouch for it.
But his crown jewel for me it the half spanish half english Perdita Durango, starring Javier Bardem and Rosie Perez.

Because you came across as someone trying to show off his Spanish cinema hidden gems (El Sur is the go to one for that), and you gave a list that doesn't fit at all what OP asked for.
Also because I hate Almodovar and filmmakers that keep making the same shit over and over again.
Christopher Lewis
Its pretty ok.
Also i just watched 'El Club de los Incomprendidos' and the grill from Pan's Labrynth plays a qt nerdy lesbian, heck all the grils are pretty qt in the movie. I dl the books the movie is based after that...
Liam Mitchell
Oxford Crimes was meh, none of de la iglesisa's spark. It happens a lot when filmmakers go international, that the result is dull, makes me admire people like Iñarritu even more
Anthony Martin
Spain here, we have nothing good. A lot of bad comedy, but at least there's no ''lol such a nerd xD'' culture in here.

XXY is just the kind of movie for Sup Forums, plus Based Darin is in it.

AIDA is the best spanish tv show of all time, it was cancelled because people claimed it was racist, it was just too good, and plebs who think they're patricians criticize it.
Dominic Lee
If your're at all into this guy or sci-fi check our Pluton BRB Nero.
It's a Spaniard TV sci fi show about a spaceship crew tasked with roaming across the universe and finding a new planet for the human race to live, since in the future ours is a complete shit show. For example the president of Earth is a descendant of Macauly Calkin thas has had two sex changes.
Great satire comedy, and they go trough all the sci-fi tropes and then some, of course adding their unique take to it. Time travel, frezee pods, clones, all type of aliens, sexy androids, lost astronauts etc
Carter Williams

They're all well-known you fucking embryo. Spirit of the Beehive, Cría Cuervos, and Solo Con Tu Pareja are light hearted enough while still being artsy.
Do you hate Ozu, Naruse, and Kaurismäki as well?
Noah Thompson
>nobody has posted Mar Adentro Best Spanish film, period.
>Las Brujas de Zugurramundi (Witching and Bitching) This one's on Netflix That movie was shit. The beginning was decent, but it all went downhill from there. Also the ending was terrible.
Jack Williams
OP here, I'm still monitoring this thread
